    The intensity and the passion from all the players during these playoffs is incredible. They also appear to be more fundamentally sound than the players of today. The best part is, no chest beating or celebrations after every dunk or 3 point shot. They go about their business and play.

    Starks played a great series. He was great in Game 4 as well, both on offense and defense. It was just that Jordan shot out of his mind in that game. He would've torched anyone.

    After the strike, things went down in the NBA. David Stern wanted to bring [the league] back up, to bring fans back in, so he started changing rules, so the fans saw more of a highlight [based game] than a rough and grind game, because he doesn't want that to be the image of the NBA.

    I love this. Straight on duel. The flashy guards, Starks/Jordan; and battle of the big men, Pippen/Ewing. It's like the mashup of Anakin/Obi Wan and Yoda/Palpatine.

    CLASSIC CLASSIC CLASSIC. This is competition at its best, i hated the Knicks growing up but i do have to say looking back i do have a new found respect fot the 90's knicks. :Look at the flow of the offenses and the determination of the defenses with the hustle plays by both teams. and wait did i just see a triple team on Ewing, but i thought triple teams were only done in the modern era lol.

    Dating back to the '92 Finals (when the Bulls won the final two games of the series vs the Blazers to clinch the repeat world titles) Chicago came into this game having won nine consecutive playoff games, with their sweeps over Atlanta and Cleveland..I'm pretty sure they realized though, that the Knicks were not pushovers like the Hawks and Cavs were..they were in for a long fight.

    This was such a classic series. You had two close/tight first two games in NY....Game 2 being the famous Starks dunk. Game 4 you had Jordan's 54 point game to hold off a late Knicks 4th quarter surge. Game 5 was the infamous Charles Smith game. As a Knicks fan, I knew they were dead after blowing Game 5 at home. There was no way they were gonna steal Game 6 in Chicago. Such a painful loss for Knicks fans...this team really did have what it took to win this series.

      yeah as bulls fan i can say for the first and only time i got nervous ... having MJ was just so relaxing cuz u jus knew he was gonna come thru but this series i actually got that sick feeling for the only time in the Jordan 6x champ era .. not even 98' had me worried i knew we would come back in game 7 ... the only team besides the bulls that gave me that over confidence was the 85' bears

    I agree. Ewing gets an unfair shake when it comes to not winning a title. Besides the missed layup against the Pacers (95 I think), I don't know if I can put any other blame on him. I mean, if you look at 93', they were absolutely loaded as a team. The defense was spectacular, they could score adequately, they had a good bench and they had the home court advantage, going up 2 to 0 against the bulls in the playoffs. It was in their hands but MJ is MJ. And MJ being MJ is not Ewing's fault.

    I think you're always going to have a leader, and you're going to have someone to support that leader. And that's how I look at it. I take [his comments] in a positive way. Everybody needs someone who's willing to take that step below, just for the sake of not competing on the same level, because sometimes it doesn't benefit the overall team.

  • @kOrOne79
    @kOrOne79  16 ปีที่แล้ว

    ESPN? LOL
    Not sure if they were the greatest duo of all time, but surely my favourite duo.
    Jordan once said playing without Pippen is like a slap in the face for him, and asked what would be his ideal starting five, he named the Dream, Bird, Magic, himself and, of course, Pippen.

  • @Thekingpac2014
    @Thekingpac2014 12 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Ewing was a elite player during his Era,top 20 during the 80's,top 10 during the 90's as a whole and between '90-'93,was top 5.It's really a shame that he never lead NY to a title,the front office for the Knicks deserve most of the blame for that.He did have that bad ankle injury in '92 against Chi,that probably shorten his athletic ability.He wasn't better than Barkley or Malone,but he's a top 25 Player Of All Time,no question.I kinda believe that Stern had something to do with NY not winning.

  • @Thekingpac2014
    @Thekingpac2014 12 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Yeah,he had a great chance to win that elusive title,but some of the blame goes to him,mainly cause he didn't perform well.But,i gotta blame the front office mostly.The main reason why i believe that Barkley was better than Ewing,is that he actually performed very well in his 1x appearance while injured,averaged 27.3ppg/13.0rebs/5.5ast/47%from the floor.While Pat played in one Finals(even though he technically went to 2,was injured '99)he averaged:18.9ppg/12.4rebs/4.3blks/36% from the floor.

    @dabomb2045 This Kninck team, was the only one good enough to beat Jordan and the Bulls, but they had a serious flaw that becomes even more critical at playoff time...They were awful at the free throw line. Not even the guards were above 80%. Bulls knew this and they sent them there constantly. Bulls in the other hand were very good in FT. Games would end up some like...FT: Bulls 27-30, Knicks 19-32, in games that were always decided by less than 5 points, this was an x-factor..

    BDL: The Charles Oakleys.
    GP: The Oakleys. Them guys were rough guys coming into the league, and they wanted to make basketball a rough sport, a serious sport. [The game] was more about defense and that type of basketball. Now a days [league executives] want it to be a show.

    Still, that's not an excuse. I'm not mad at Scottie though, as you said, he played a great series and the Bulls won.
    For me, Scottie became an outstanding player a year later, as a leader of the Bulls. I know there was the infamous Kukoc-situation when he refused to get back into the game (I'll never forget the devastated look on Scottie's face), but as a whole, he was magnificent that season.

    Jordan clashed with McDaniel in Game 7 of the 1992 Playoffs (2nd round). ForEmily23 posted the complete series on his channel, great stuff.
    I believe the X-Man wanted a piece of Pippen; Jordan had enough of McDaniel's antics and finally got in his face. Both received a technical after that and the game went on.

    Yes, I remember those clutch shots. I believe Hoops didn't include the 3-point play in his edit of Game 4, but I know exactly which play you're referring to. Game 2 was the exception, to throw the ball at the ref was just dumb. Still don't think this was the series that put him in the realm of legends, but I can see your point. Definitively a clutch performance by Scottie.

    I think MJ said that around 1997 or '98, probably when Pip was injured; Jordan and Rodman had to carry the Bulls at that time.
    The stuff about his favourite starting 5 dates back to 2007, when Jordan gave a interview and the question came up. Ironically it was made around the time when Pippen had plans to join a playoff team and win another title in the NBA. Scottie made some awkward comments about Jordan at that time. Thankfully, Mike didn't retaliate and showed his class instead.

    • @johnsurs22
      @johnsurs22 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, it was a bad game. Actually, it was probably Jordan's worst playoff series. Outside of the Game 4 performance, his playing was very poor. But Knicks had a great defense, so it's no shame.

    • @Amjbmcg
      @Amjbmcg 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dr. Logos That game 4 performance was an all time all time great performance tho. And there's one way worse than this, any actually ... go to the second 3peat .... his worst was when Bulls faced a worse Miami Heat team, he shot 39%, and didn't impact the game elsewhere like he did in this series (defense and playmaking).

    • @johnsurs22
      @johnsurs22 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ***** That's a good point. Yeah, it was on and off for Jordan in the Heat series, but I guess it's overlooked because it wasn't as competitive as this one. And he was getting old too.

    The NYK were an amazing team,but they were not the best team that didn't get a chip during the 90's.I think Seattle and Utah were better,they didn't perform well when it was on the line,especially during the '94 Finals when Ewing didn't even average over 20+ and only shot 36%. He wasn't better than CB or Malone,his production doesn't match theirs,and while his legacy may be similar to theirs,i would say they slightly came out on top,seeing that both did win a MVP(Malone 2x).But mad respect 2 Pat

    Guys like Kobe or LeBron would adapt to the rules, but they wouldn't be as effective as they are in the current NBA. Also, I don't see them giving 100% on defense on any given night like Jordan and Pippen did. When you play hard on both ends, eventually it catches up to you at the end of games. Most of todays stars use their energy almost entirely on offense, and they still aren't as productive as Jordan was. That alone should tell you how good he was, really.

    pippen hit every clutch shot in the series, game 2 the bulls lost by 5 in a game where pippen was ejected, game 3 and 5 he scores 29pts with an incredible fg percentage, game 4 yes mj scored the 54 but one of the clutch plays by pip was a falling 3pt play he hit on mason, and game 6 scottie hits 2 shot clock beaters, one at the baseling on smiths face and the other was a 3pointer right on starks face. in a series where mj shot poorly pip more than rose to the occasion.

  • @kOrOne79
    @kOrOne79  16 ปีที่แล้ว

    Care to explain? What exactly did Pippen in this series to become a legend? I'm just curious mate, is it because he didn't fell for the Knicks' tactics like in 1992? Because I think the Pistons were an even bigger obstacle for Scottie, and he beat them in 1991 as we all know. Don't get me wrong, I think he played a great series. But he was already a superstar that year, and for his standarts, it wasn't an outstanding series in my opinion...

    [...]I wish some of the rules would come back, so that you could touch them [without being called for a foul] ... It's very hard to control Lebron James or Kobe Bryant, if you can't touch 'em. They're too good ... I think the only old-school player left out there is Tim Duncan.

    Well, he's right. Bring back the old rules.

    As long as you can have certain roles, and people fill those roles, the team is going to prosper from that. So I didn't take anything negative away. I felt like, OK-that's his opinion. I still think you need a Michael Jordan, you need that guy who's going to take that big shot, that's going to give the team confidence. And you need a guy like Scottie Pippen, who is not on the high end of that vocal leader, but he's not that far off of it."

    "The most versatile forward since John Havlicek --- and of late a consistent whiner --- Scottie Pippen possesses a singular combination of skills at the small forward position. While Havlicek was the better perimeter shooter, Pippen is a great open floor player and probably the greatest defensive forward of all-time, being honored six times with First-Team Defense awards."
    Pip was compared to Havlicek, not Jordan (who was ranked #1 of course), and that was six months after the 6th championship.

    No, it was the Chicago Bulls mainly that had something to do with NY not winning.

    6:49 I really miss the old CHARGE! melody they played on the old organ in MSG. That's what gave the garden character. Now they play fuckin stupid ass music and synthesized crap. The Staples Center copied the organ idea from msg and it's working lovely. It's not a concert or a dance hall to request a track on some morons album. It's basketball

    Easily his worst game of that series. His shooting woes continued til Game 4, when he lit the Knicks up for 54 points.
