    _____________
In this episode I'm in Spain's Southern region Andalucía (Andalusia), specifically the cities of Cordoba and Cadiz. Andalucía, Spain, is most famous for its flamenco, tapas culture and 500 years of Muslim domination which has left its mark on the food, unique Moorish architecture and the language of this region. Cordoba is famous for its mezquita (former grand mosque) which was once the biggest in all of the Islamic world, it's now a hybrid mosque-cathedral and one of the most impressive monuments I've ever seen! Cadiz is an ancient Phoenician city and has beautiful views over the Atlantic Ocean; its corniche brings to mind images of North Africa and Arabia. In this video I explore the rich culture and history of these Spanish cities and get to know the locals along the way. Andalucía is easily my favourite region in Spain and this video highlights many of the reasons why I love it!

I had such a great time exploring the Spanish cities of Cordoba and Cadiz in the Andalusia region. The history of the region is fascinating not least because it was ruled by Muslims for some 500 years!! The Muslim legacy is still visible in the architecture, food and even language. Did you know about Spain’s Muslim history? Don’t forget to leave a comment, like and subscribe for more videos! 🇪🇸🇪🇸

It was not all of Spain and Portugal(maybe 3/5 of the Peninsula) that became muslim. And before that most of the country was Christian, and before that the Roman pagan religion, and before that Phoenician religion and before that Iberian or Celtic...you get the point. If you dig under most Cathedrals and churches in Southern Spain you are going to find layers upon layers of religious buildings from different religions in the same place.

    •  12 วันที่ผ่านมา

Woa woa, stop with the details and nuanced view. I want my clickbait and my contrarian take! Spain was muslim, deal with it! Are you a white nationalist?

AN HISTORICAL OVERVIEW OF ANDALUCIA, SPAIN
    THE PREHISTORIC BEGINNINGS
Neanderthal man is known to have lived on the Rock of Gibraltar, 50,000 years ago. In about 8,000 BC an influx of North African tribes established farming settlements throughout the region, and these people are known today as the Iberians. Andalucia's seaboard was extensively settled by the Phoenicians, who established a chain of trading posts, founding the sea port of Cadiz in 1100BC - which makes its Europe's oldest city - and strongly influencing the way of life of the native Iberians. The Phoenicians were followed by the Celts, who in 800 BC moved south across Europe and into Andalucia. By 700 BC the Tartessus Kingdom was flourishing in Andalucia, and a century later Greek sailors founded trading ports along its shore. By the year 500 BC, the Carthaginians had colonised southern Spain.

“The Dogs of God,” is an excellent read which chronicles the intersection of Moors, Christians and Judaism over 1,000 years leading to the commission of Columbus by Queen Isabella and King Ferdinand to replenish their coffers from the centuries long efforts to drive the Moors out of Europe.
Every thing mentioned in this clip is fully articulated in the book.
I’ve read it five times, that’s how great it is.
Lastly, the title is what Catholic priest were called during that period and “the Moors slayer,” represented Saint James.

You cheered me up . ! Thank you for such a stunning video and somehow forgotten earlier Muslim history . Yes it is definitely worth visiting Cordoba and the Grand Mosque of Cordoba . And Cadiz also. Beautiful city at the edge of the Iberian peninsula.
Todays Gibraltar was the landing and invading point of the Moors from Africa which still is called Jabal Tarik by Arabs , mountain of Tarik.
It is The British Territory now .

Im happy you liked the video. The history of this part of Spain is very interesting including its Muslim past. All have resulted in a interesting modern day culture. Interesting about what they called Gibraltar, thanks for sharing!

Got the train from Seville to Cordoba, it’s pretty quick and easy to get to the train station from Seville airport by taxi, 15 mins.
