  • From Des Knaben Wunderhorn; Sung by Lucia Popp; Conducted by Leonard Bernstein; Israel Philharmonic.
This can be found on a DVD from Deutsche Grammophon/Unitel Classica, which also contains the other 3 Mahler song cycles (not counting the sui generis Das Lied von der Erde, of course) featuring Thomas Hampson and the Vienna Philharmonic conducted by Leonard Bernstein.

The Voice as clear as it can possibly be. Like a perfectly tuned instrument. Thank you for sharing!

this ist, ladies and gentlemen, absolutely stunning! pure art and beauty. you may not understand it by quite unexperienced (classical music) ears, but if you click "dislike" I'm afraid you can't enjoy and understand music.

This is ridiculously good ..and then there’s just pure natural angelic tone..
..no need for a bath tonight! ....I’m relaxed and soothed to the bone..

She was a unique angel put down on this earth. Far away the best soprano ever. I never heard anyone sing so emotional and expressive with such control and beauty. And then accompanied by the Worlds greatest conductor ever the big genius Leonard Bernstein. This is music on its highest level. Unique beauty that is hard to surpass. Simply divine.

Mahler did not predict the tragedies of the 20th century, but these tragedies have caused us to need the solace his music now uniquely provides.

How Lucia Popp is missed. I remember standing in the wings during Der Rosenkavalier listening to her as Marschallin in those soaring phrases at the beginning of the Trio. Little did I know how lucky I was to work with her in my very first season of opera because I was to hear that voice only once more in the 4 Last songs about six months later. Then before any of us could take it in she was gone.
I prefer to remember her alive and singing as beautifully as here. A wonderful lady and an artist with a great heart. Rest in peace Lucia.

Loved Lucia in Rosenkavalier . Such a good contrast with Fassbaender. Their duets were superb

She sang Sophie at the Opéra de Paris in 1977-78, so it must have been then that I saw here. She was very touching, and I've grown to love her voice and sense of style more and more ever since.

The interplay is amazing between the major and minor keys, representing the joy of being reunited with a sweetheart on the one hand, and the looming, and probably fatal, outcome of being sent to a war, on the other.

Schade!! Chacun a son gout! Über Geschmack lässt sich nicht streiten!
    There's no accounting for taste!
What a pity you had to introduce a negative element here!
Das war wirklich nicht nötig! These kind of comparisons are very subjective and rather pointless!
