Luzia Poppová was truly the soprano of my lifetime, and I feel blessed that I was around, and adult enough, to appreciate the amazing beauty of her singing and the perfect clarity of her voice during all of her professional years. Lovely beyond words to describe and, of course, it all came straight from her heart and soul. How wonderful it must have been just to sit near her at a dinner table sharing a good meal and some excellent wine, and just listening to her tell a story. I can still remember exactly where I was, and the overwhelming sadness I felt on that day in November 1993 when I heard of her passing on our local public classical music radio station. That announcement was followed by a couple hours of several of her performances, beginning with Mister Mozart's "Laudate Dominum", the very first work that I ever heard her sing, in the late '60s, and still the finest performance of this beautiful soprano solo that I have ever heard. And it is difficult to even write this, recalling that day. Hard to believe, and sad to remember, that she has been gone from us for nearly twenty five years now. But thank God we have these beautiful audio and video recordings of her during those years when she was shining so brightly, and sharing with us that incomparably beautiful voice of hers A hālāwai hou mākou, Lucia... 💔💖🌴
@@wilhelm4970 But we are so very fortunate to have these beautiful recordings of her by which to remember her. And fortunate to have all these wonderful little gadgets, like our little computer tablets, smartphones, and earbuds, on which to hear her in, literally, concert hall quailty surround-sound. And there is a Very worthy successor to Lucia, and one of her countrywomen (by parentage)... soprano Patricia Janečková, who lives and works in Ostrava, Czech Republic. And if her rise in the world of operatic aria and classical solo singing since about the age of 12 is Any indication (she is 22 now), then Lucia must be truly smiling down from Heaven at this young woman who sings like an angel.
This is the most exquisite singing ever! Lucia’s voice has a rich yet delicate colouring which is entrancing, divine. High notes, low notes, she gives every note its fullest expression, each one in itself is sublimely beautiful, and she weaves them together in a shimmering texture of sound. Many great divas leave me cold, but Lucia is mesmerising.
I have listened a huge amount of classical and Baroque choral music. For me this lady is the finest soprano of all time. Constant control and emphasis on all notes, with a unique sweetness.
😂 😂 😂, that was a good one! Although Pop music is in a major crisis, it once had a glorious moment too... Unfortunately, No one genre is producing anything of value.. look at modern Opera, it totally sucks too!
Just happened on this - taking a few minutes away from work. I've always loved Lucia Popp - but still - to be so blissfully transported by her sublime artistry, voice, musicianship - I'm happily limp now. We need Lucia Popp - and thank God that this live performance exists, at a time when there is so much peril in the world. How utterly and totally beautiful.
I've lost count of the number of times I've heard this aria sung, often by some of the world's very finest singers, but this is the best version of it I've ever heard. Just perfection.
Lucky to have seen her live on stage at the Vienna State Opera in the 1990s. Her voice was so beautiful and crystal clear, incredibly one of the best voices ever. Unfortunately, she was taken from us so soon by the heavens.
How absolutely exquisite. Lucia singing here is a shining light in these dark times. I have not heard this aria sung so beautifully before. Wish she was still here. Thank you so,much.
Ah !
Have just ordered the "The very best of Lucia Popp" CDs which are hard to find , but are in the second hand market in Edinburgh at half the price of new ones ...Wunderbar !
There are many versions of this that i like. Miah Persson's is one notable one (they like to remove it from youtube on a regular basis), but this one is one step above the others. Better than her acclaimed Paris one (most of that production was played too slow). She really was the quintessential Mozart soprano.
This angelic voice could produce a high F without making me shrink - and that is very rare in sopranos whose voices tend to become shrill above a certain level of tone!
Nobody ever had a more Mozartian voice than Lucia.
NOBODY.
Mozartish
Her VOICE MAKES ME cry ❤❤❤
We're all so fortunate that Popp's recorded legacy lets newer generations enjoy her exquisite voice.

Unfortunately I wasn't adult enough at the time to appreciate opera and the stunning voice of Lucia Popp...😥

Oh thank you for this tipp! I will look for videos from her.
I agree with all the comments. She is exceptional.
Thank you so much for all that wonderful information.
Of the many sopranos I have heard sing this beautiful aria, this version has a perfection to make it unique. I can hear Mozart applauding.
Brava!

Mozart + Popp = Perfection. My favourite aria from my favourite composer, sang by my favourite soprano. A brief glimpse of heaven, on earth.
The BEST soprano voice ever 🫶💓🤩👏👌💞

Well said, ma'am.
That silvery tone! Such a unique mixture of joy and yearning, even in one small phrase. No singer gives me more listening pleasure than Lucia Popp.
God, please give us back our wonderful Lucia! In return, you can take a whole bunch of popular pop singers!
Heven needs an Angel like Lucia.
At least. 10,000

Nobody, but nobody does this better than La Lucia. She sang with her soul...
Yes! But Freni was as good!
lucia IS one of my favourite singers
light vioce、SWEET appearance!😘
"she sang with her soul".That is what makes her so different. Mozart at his best.
There is just no better singer for this than Mrs Poppova. Untuched!
I have listened to a lot of sopranos over my long life. She is the one I cannot escape.
Absolute perfection.
Jahrhunderts.
Flawless. The finest Mozart soprano there will ever be.
A year before her death, she performed the Contessa in The Marriage of Figaro in Tokyo. It was a marvelous performance.
Beautiful woman..... SUCH a wonderful voice

Vangelis told that music was Made for Beauty and fille thé soul with hapiness.. That renditionbis an example of What hé menant tovsay...
Lucia Popp is my favorite female opera singer. A perfectly beautiful woman with a perfectly beautiful voice!
this is transcendential .. more than just human ... this is divine beauty
definitely my favorite female singer!
I was at that concert...and as always she was amazing! Thank you Lucia for touching my life!
the great statement of Suzanna sung to perfection.
Am reascultat cu multa placere aceasta superba voce.
Merci Lucia !
She's in a class of her own.
She is. Very few women can sing Mozart. I like Maria Stader and Gundula Janowitz also.
