This episode showed how different Jen's powers are. Bruce has DID, (yes, like Moon Knight,) but it was less florid than Marc's until the integration into Smart Hulk. His discovery that Jen was only one person was also accurate to how some people with DID or OSDD react when they think someone is like them and they aren't. Also, that scene at the end credits confirmed a popular fan theory that Steve Rogers is Peter Quill's grandfather.
I COMPLETELY geeked out when I noticed the court artist using Procreate on that iPad Pro or whatever the screen was. And I loved the court room sketch motif to the end credits. So much fun.
The comparison in the 4th wall breaks between DP and SH really come down to the characters. Both characters know that they exist within a comic, but SH being a sane and rational human, still lives by the rules within her reality, where DP is a little unhinged and thinks of the real world as "reality" therefore there are no rules to abide. This is why DP freely breaks the 4th wall... but SH, tries to be subtle and not call other people's attention to it.
As someone who has been a fan of the Hulk/Bruce Banner since the 90s cartoon and been disappointed by all of the Hulk things being off screen, I’m super stoked about this show.

I'm actually surprised that Jay wasn't sure about the casting. Tatiana Maslany is one of the best actresses of the past decade. Her roles in Orphan Black alone is some legendary tier acting.
This show is off to a GREAT start for me. All the hopes I had for this show...met. All the fears I had for this show.....allayed. My only small gripe.....I want more NOW.

Honestly, I'm glad they are showing Bruce's frustration with how under control Jen is, and how much of Hulk is Bruce's trauma manifested and how someone can get by when not affected by that. It was one of my biggest worries with this show, that they were gonna fumble with Bruce again. I mean, I don't think we ever got confirmation about Bruce's childhood and if his father was like the comics. Glad we got some more evidence that Bruce and Tony hung out outside the films. Now we get out of the pilot episode, my worries set in with where the story goes. I'm worried about how Abomination is gonna play out in the story.

This show wins in that even IF the CGI was not to the level EVERYONE was demanding/complaining about, it's just so good/fun/funny/awesome, NO ONE CARES about the CGI. Plus... the CGI IS better. ...and STILL a very #GoodFunTime. 🤣🤣🤣

If we were to give their POV an honest once over, there is something about the Character Build against the background/environment that IS off a here and there in some of the island/train sequences. ...but there is NO REASON for there to be Downrating of this BEFORE you even watch it... Just presumption & misplaced anger. Lucky for them, this show welcomes that emotion openly. 😉😁
Come to find out, the CGI was a little rushed for this shots because they were initially slated for episode 8... you know, where Disney+ sticks all of the relevant backstory in the episode just before the final episode.
@@Merwanor I think they probably put a more a little more money into Hulk's CGI for this because he already has an established look and if he looked worse in this it wouldn't sit well. That said, I think the CGI for Jenn is pretty solid; not perfect, the clapping scene in particular feels weird to me, but I don't expect it to be perfect in a TV show. Once she hits the big screen she's gonna look even better. Show is gonna be awesome either way though so I don't really care how she looks.

Well the reason Bruce’s character development mostly takes part off screen is because universal still has the cinematic rights if I’m not mistaken… Although it’s not like Spider-Man where they have to make a movie to keep the rights I think they’re only allowed to put the Hulk in avengers movies or in a TV show…

The car accident blood mixture makes much more sense than her transfusion origin. Bruce would have let her die before potentially creating a new Hulk. This way it was out of his control.
That's exactly what Jessica Gao said. They were considering sticking closer to the comic and having Jen get shot and Bruce giving her a transfusion but then they'd have to set up why the mob wanted her dead. So they just said crash, blood, She Hulk.
It took Tatiana Maslany less than 60 seconds to solidify herself as one of the most awesome Marvel castings in the history of MCU. Like, this is RDJ levels of "Holy shit he/she is perfect for this role!"
Something that hasn't been brought up yet inside of the MCU is what happens to the people who have powers but don't want to live the superhero/villain life. Bruce is telling her that she has to accept being a superhero because that's all he knows. To him, there really isn't another option. People were not accepting of him when he started and he doesn't realize that it's a different time already. He helped _make_ it a different time by getting people to be more accepting of people with powers. To Jen, it makes perfect sense that she'd be able to go back and live her life. She sees Bruce as a person and even has pretty good control over her powers. She also knows that becoming a recluse for a decade is not really an option for her, nor is it really likely to happen. You guys were spot on by saying that they were both right. It's a really interesting conversation to get into about how the culture reacts to people who are different.
This show was so much fun, looking forward for the rest of the season. PS: Does anyone else wonder where that second boulder that Hulk threw went? If that didn't go into space, or the ocean, that could really do some damage.
@@heltaku9397 I guess it makes some sense no reason leaving an atmosphere would be easier than entering it, but yeah obviously not something that happens too much in the real world given it would take moving at literally astronomic speeds...though it probably would have actually just exploded in Hulk's hands since no rock could survive that kinda acceleration.

Something that I appreciate about the difference between Jen and Hulk is that they don't seem to be trying to convey that Jen is physically stronger than Banner. But she's more clever. Banner effortlessly chucks a boulder, Jen puts in more effort and chucks it farther, then Banner gets a bit insecure and basically sends a boulder into orbit, but that doesn't bother Jen, because being physically stronger isn't important to her. Banner does a thunderclap that sends Jen flying. Jen can't manage to do that, but she notices that her lighter thunderclap affects Banner's ears, so she uses consecutive thunderclaps to incapacitate him instead of just using pure brute force to knock him around. Work smarter, not harder. I hope they keep this up, and instead of doing the tired, stereotypical "anything you can do, I can do better," they should emphasize that these two different hulks have different strengths, and that one is not "better" than the other.
Really, genius scientist with way more experience in both life and living as a hulk is not as smart as a lawyer with 5 minutes experience of being a hulk...

And while Bruce is obviously brilliant, you have to remember that Smart hulk is a combination of Banner and Hulk's personalities, not just Banner's personality with Hulk's body. Starting with Endgame, Smart Hulk is characterized as being more brash than regular Banner, who was always more timid and squirrelly. Smart Hulk is also more impulsive than regular Banner. It's an understated shift in his personality, but it's a significant one. In Endgame's director commentary, they talk about how they worked with Ruffalo to figure out what makes Smart Hulk's personality different from normal Banner's. It explains why Smart Hulk is more impulsive, and prone to rash behavior. So yes, in a fight, Smart Hulk might not be a genius strategist. Doesn't mean he's stupid, but it does mean that he might inadvertently allow his opponent to get the upper hand.
the way I see it, and that makes me love it, is that Jen has emotional control, and bruce didn't until the blip. supressing isn't controlling. the hulk is literally a brutal and violent culmination of bruce's extreme feelings of anger and distress, and considering the crap childhood he had, is not a surprise he had a lot of trauma to supress. add to that that usually "men don't cry" is a thing we say to boys, and we have a bruce with a lot of supressed trauma that comes out as the hulk. then we have jen who lives her life having to control her anger because the minute a woman lashes out she is irresponsable, emotional, and all of that crap, but we are allowed to cry and express sadness and other feelings, which gives us an important mecanism to deal with emotions that many men don't have. so she doesn't have an habit of supressing what she feels, which is what makes her so good at this part. it's pretty safe to say considering how much of a piece of shit bruce's father was that he grew up exactly in this kind of environment that makes a boy supress what he feels and call it a day on the other hand, giving how male bodies are a lot more capable of building muscle tissue to extreme ammounts then female bodies, it comes to no surprise that she is so jacked and she is condiderably less, therefore giving bruce way more phisical strenght then jen there's a lot to read here, and it makes me very sad that so many people won't see it 'cause "hurr durr mary sue why does she control the hulk so easy wpke show blabla" instead of people actually reading into the characters and understanding why things are the way they are. I found it fantastic! icing on top, I'm a woman, I watched this with my male best friend, and we talked at lenghts about how man and women learn how to control their feelings differently, and he mentioned how usual it was for him to see non violent man lash out in fits of rage simply because they didn't have any other mecanism to deal with an extreme negative emotion. Sad? lash out. Nervous? lash out. Never talket about their feelings and ended up hitting a wall or something. that is very sad =/ but very true at the same time

To be a Professor you have to work at a University, it's an Honorary title that other Doctors and Fellows vote on, basically "Smartest person on campus". Bruce can't be a Professor, he can only be a Doctor of Science. Doctor Hulk sounds silly.

But that said, I’m glad you were able to take a break and recharge to get ready for the madness of TV shows that is starting! I thought this first episode was good. Felt a little rushed. But I will say her character is being done PERFECTLY! Also, hearing Bruce talk about the time he and Tony spent together during the blip and seeing how much his death effected him is something I didn’t think about but man that hit hard.
"lawyer show" she is so cool and so fun ans so perfect, it was the BEST casting possible for that role, I love her. And I'll probably cry too when bloody Matt Murdoch is going to show up for the first time. Usually I prefer weekly relese .... but I could watch all 9 episodes in one sitting

The homages to the television show are subtle and sad and lovely, especially the musical moments harkening back to the tragic theme song, but that last punch in the courtroom was pure early-80s practical stuntwork and I am HERE for it.

I liked this premiere, the humor was pretty funny, their relationship as cousins was believable and relatable to me, i loved the end credit scene. The cgi was ify but not bad enough to ruin my experience

Like Jennifer I myself thought FOR YEARS that Steve Rogers was a virgin until he went back in time to be with Peggy. But now we know, CAPTAIN AMERICA FUUUUUUUCKED!!!!🤣🤣🤣🤣 Also this is one of the funniest pilots I’ve ever seen. I mean the Cheeto Chopsticks thing freaking killed me, and knowing that Oscar Isaac started it think I heard his phone just blow up. It’s also the first time I’ve ever seen the reluctant superhero scenario done in a way where I actually side with the hero. Then again I shouldn’t be surprised she convinced me, she’s a damn good lawyer. As for her being a natural in terms of her changing whenever she wants to, not only did Bruce explain that they both have the genetic makeup needed to that the power of a Hulk, but Bruce himself managed to merge himself with the Hulk perfectly. So when his “upgraded” blood infected hers she was able to transform without an alter ego taking over.
This show is awesome already. That post credit scene might be the greatest of all time. As far as her being a Mary Sue, that's literally her character. From the beginning in the comics, in animated media, in the 70's show, and beyond she's always picked up her powers and transformation A LOT faster than Bruce/Hulk. So I have no problem with that. That's what Stan Lee was going for.

That's exactly what Jessica Gao said. They were considering sticking closer to the comic and having Jen get shot and Bruce giving her a transfusion but then they'd have to set up why the mob wanted her dead. So they just said crash, blood, She Hulk.
The pad that the courtroom artist was using was a Wacom Cintiq (one of the bigger ones) and the software was either Clip Studio Paint or Photoshop.

It took Tatiana Maslany less than 60 seconds to solidify herself as one of the most awesome Marvel castings in the history of MCU. Like, this is RDJ levels of "Holy shit he/she is perfect for this role!"
Something that hasn't been brought up yet inside of the MCU is what happens to the people who have powers but don't want to live the superhero/villain life. Bruce is telling her that she has to accept being a superhero because that's all he knows. To him, there really isn't another option. People were not accepting of him when he started and he doesn't realize that it's a different time already. He helped _make_ it a different time by getting people to be more accepting of people with powers. To Jen, it makes perfect sense that she'd be able to go back and live her life. She sees Bruce as a person and even has pretty good control over her powers. She also knows that becoming a recluse for a decade is not really an option for her, nor is it really likely to happen.
You guys were spot on by saying that they were both right. It's a really interesting conversation to get into about how the culture reacts to people who are different.

@@heltaku9397 I guess it makes some sense no reason leaving an atmosphere would be easier than entering it, but yeah obviously not something that happens too much in the real world given it would take moving at literally astronomic speeds...though it probably would have actually just exploded in Hulk's hands since no rock could survive that kinda acceleration.
To be fair it could cause damage going into space given how busy it seems the MCU Earth is with space aliens.
The rock disintegrated in the atmosphere, like an asteroid, only from the bottom up.
PS/FYI: I'm pretty sure it was confirmed that EVERY She-Hulk episode WILL have a Post-Credits sequence.

Something that I appreciate about the difference between Jen and Hulk is that they don't seem to be trying to convey that Jen is physically stronger than Banner. But she's more clever. Banner effortlessly chucks a boulder, Jen puts in more effort and chucks it farther, then Banner gets a bit insecure and basically sends a boulder into orbit, but that doesn't bother Jen, because being physically stronger isn't important to her.
Banner does a thunderclap that sends Jen flying. Jen can't manage to do that, but she notices that her lighter thunderclap affects Banner's ears, so she uses consecutive thunderclaps to incapacitate him instead of just using pure brute force to knock him around. Work smarter, not harder.
I hope they keep this up, and instead of doing the tired, stereotypical "anything you can do, I can do better," they should emphasize that these two different hulks have different strengths, and that one is not "better" than the other.
Really, genius scientist with way more experience in both life and living as a hulk is not as smart as a lawyer with 5 minutes experience of being a hulk...

And while Bruce is obviously brilliant, you have to remember that Smart hulk is a combination of Banner and Hulk's personalities, not just Banner's personality with Hulk's body. Starting with Endgame, Smart Hulk is characterized as being more brash than regular Banner, who was always more timid and squirrelly. Smart Hulk is also more impulsive than regular Banner. It's an understated shift in his personality, but it's a significant one. In Endgame's director commentary, they talk about how they worked with Ruffalo to figure out what makes Smart Hulk's personality different from normal Banner's. It explains why Smart Hulk is more impulsive, and prone to rash behavior. So yes, in a fight, Smart Hulk might not be a genius strategist. Doesn't mean he's stupid, but it does mean that he might inadvertently allow his opponent to get the upper hand.
the way I see it, and that makes me love it, is that Jen has emotional control, and bruce didn't until the blip. supressing isn't controlling. the hulk is literally a brutal and violent culmination of bruce's extreme feelings of anger and distress, and considering the crap childhood he had, is not a surprise he had a lot of trauma to supress. add to that that usually "men don't cry" is a thing we say to boys, and we have a bruce with a lot of supressed trauma that comes out as the hulk. then we have jen who lives her life having to control her anger because the minute a woman lashes out she is irresponsable, emotional, and all of that crap, but we are allowed to cry and express sadness and other feelings, which gives us an important mecanism to deal with emotions that many men don't have. so she doesn't have an habit of supressing what she feels, which is what makes her so good at this part. it's pretty safe to say considering how much of a piece of shit bruce's father was that he grew up exactly in this kind of environment that makes a boy supress what he feels and call it a day
on the other hand, giving how male bodies are a lot more capable of building muscle tissue to extreme ammounts then female bodies, it comes to no surprise that she is so jacked and she is condiderably less, therefore giving bruce way more phisical strenght then jen
there's a lot to read here, and it makes me very sad that so many people won't see it 'cause "hurr durr mary sue why does she control the hulk so easy wpke show blabla" instead of people actually reading into the characters and understanding why things are the way they are. I found it fantastic!
icing on top, I'm a woman, I watched this with my male best friend, and we talked at lenghts about how man and women learn how to control their feelings differently, and he mentioned how usual it was for him to see non violent man lash out in fits of rage simply because they didn't have any other mecanism to deal with an extreme negative emotion. Sad? lash out. Nervous? lash out. Never talket about their feelings and ended up hitting a wall or something. that is very sad =/ but very true at the same time

My guess is Titania was there for her boyfriend Carl Creel aka Absorbing Man of the Wrecking Crew, a minor gang of criminals that Carl was the leader of. They were also in the original Secret Wars where the 616 Titania was created by Doom.

To be a Professor you have to work at a University, it's an Honorary title that other Doctors and Fellows vote on, basically "Smartest person on campus". Bruce can't be a Professor, he can only be a Doctor of Science. Doctor Hulk sounds silly.

I thought this first episode was good. Felt a little rushed. But I will say her character is being done PERFECTLY!
Also, hearing Bruce talk about the time he and Tony spent together during the blip and seeing how much his death effected him is something I didn’t think about but man that hit hard.
"lawyer show" she is so cool and so fun ans so perfect, it was the BEST casting possible for that role, I love her. And I'll probably cry too when bloody Matt Murdoch is going to show up for the first time.

The homages to the television show are subtle and sad and lovely, especially the musical moments harkening back to the tragic theme song, but that last punch in the courtroom was pure early-80s practical stuntwork and I am HERE for it.

Also this is one of the funniest pilots I’ve ever seen. I mean the Cheeto Chopsticks thing freaking killed me, and knowing that Oscar Isaac started it think I heard his phone just blow up. It’s also the first time I’ve ever seen the reluctant superhero scenario done in a way where I actually side with the hero. Then again I shouldn’t be surprised she convinced me, she’s a damn good lawyer. As for her being a natural in terms of her changing whenever she wants to, not only did Bruce explain that they both have the genetic makeup needed to that the power of a Hulk, but Bruce himself managed to merge himself with the Hulk perfectly. So when his “upgraded” blood infected hers she was able to transform without an alter ego taking over.
This show is awesome already. That post credit scene might be the greatest of all time. As far as her being a Mary Sue, that's literally her character. From the beginning in the comics, in animated media, in the 70's show, and beyond she's always picked up her powers and transformation A LOT faster than Bruce/Hulk. So I have no problem with that. That's what Stan Lee was going for.
