Running Cross Flatts parkrun, Beeston, Leeds. parkrun Tourism. Winning parkrace and Rainbows!

- We headed to Cross Flatts parkrun in Beeston as I last ran here in 2016! I absolutely loved this visit as there were so many positive changes, especially the shelter in the park funded by parkrun!
I may have given the wrong course instructions to Al who subsequently went wrong but he still managed to win parkrace... congratulations Al! ;)
We were sad not to go to the regular cafe, Sandwiches Galore, as it closed during covid but the cafe in the park was brilliant! Incredible value and a bright and clean space that is super convenient being so close to the parkrun finish.
Huge thanks to the team at Cross Flatts parkrun for a fantastic morning!

Lovely video, Cross Flatts is a lovely park run. Also very close to this is Middleton Woods park run, well worth checking out as this is set in 300 acre of ancient woodland which is beautiful.

The marshal shouted him to go back, Al thought it was 2 top laps 2 bottom laos rather than 2 small 2 big! All's well that ends well 🤗

I spent many hours in that park as a kid, the ‘friends’ group and Beeston in Bloom have done such a good job rejuvenating it after years of it being neglected.
Well done today btw - if you saw a dishevelled bloke in a maroon & amber shirt cheering you on with 200 to go… it was me!
Haven't they just, it's so lovely when a community come together to reclaim their green spaces and it's now such a fantastic space with so many facilities 😍

I try to listen to ftw's but honestly most of the time they don't help me. Maybe it's just how my brain works but e.g. "Go there, turn left, run 300 metres, turn round and" etc goes in one ear and out the other. Luckily I am slow enough that there's always someone in front. Never gonna "win the race" like Al!
Yeah I'm not sure about how I'd do if I was at the front but like you it's something I'll never have to worry about 🤣

Thanks they're my cycling ones. Just Tifosi but they're comfortable and were only £30 so I'm not precious about them like I would be if they were designer ☺️

Looks like a great park. No mention if Topless Al won? Also it was great another young girl did a sprint finish to compensate for no Poppy!! Such a great development with ParkWalkers!
The parkwalk initiative is great, I really hope it gains traction and is still used way past October and into the future 😃 deliberate no mention of winning as Al believes you can win a parkrun but you can't 😜 He did finish first though 🥰

Don't think we do too bad, walk beagle 6 miles a day and am 68
Used to do a lot of fell walking in the lakes but had to stop when I got my beagle, was sick of him eating sheep muck, dog muck and cow pat's, little minger!!!!!!!
I visited here a few weeks back. I thought it were a lovely park and i were shocked it werent more popular. Nice area lovely course.
Exactly this! I think they might get a few more parkrun tourists if they filled in the future roster online as people don't know if the event is going to be on or not. 🤔 There's such a fantastic community though and I think that's a positive of the smaller events 😃
@@NicolaRuns Figures are much lower than they used to be, due to competition. Think there is NINE ParkRuns in Leeds, including Middleton Woods which is less than 2 miles away.
I’ve mentioned to run director Phil on numerous occasions how they could instantly increase participation numbers 10-fold at Cross Flatts.
How would this be done? Simply by changing the name of the ParkRun from Cross Flatts to X-flatts.
Runners would flock to it from around to globe to complete their ParkRun A to Z.
He thought I was I joking but I’m 100% serious.

The course isn't flat but the uphills aren't so bad and it does have fast sections which many forget. 🙂
The introduction of Park Walking is a great idea. ParkRun has always been 100% inclusive but this just underlines how its perfectly ok to walk- being out there is all that matters.
Naughty Al for not attending first timer brief - harsh lesson learnt for sure.
I'm intrigued to know how he got on? I ran Cross Flatts last weekend. A guy turned up and broke course record which had been jointly held by two separate runners for over 9 years!

Colin! Long time no see! The Stronger Together is beautiful isn't it 😍 naughty Al indeed! I saw about the course record and that's an unbelievable time on that course! 😱 I was astounded! And you're right about parkwalk, it's brilliant, I hope it brings about long term change 🤞 I'm thinking of entering the midweek Fewston/Swinsty Grim races in November. Are you running them? 😃

Weather was great, apart from the headwind.
Love Yorkshire Marathon. My 6th and it’s always been so kind to me - I must surely be due a bad race there soon.
Ran another Marathon PB on Sunday, finishing in 02:51:21.
Thought it was the perfect day. The marathon, 10 mile and relays meant there was something for everybody.
I passed some of the 10 milers in final few miles and encouraged & supported them all. 10 miles is an epic challenge for many. It is so inspiring to see people step outside their comfort zone.
@@MrCol104 OMFG that's an INCREDIBLE time! Huge congratulations my friend! Beyond chuffed for you! Yeah we had a great group. Whenever you pace it's lonely at the very end as people push on but you hold the pace but I absolutely loved our group. You're right it's super rewarding I love it! 😃
