My grandfather is from Holland, near Amsterdam 😍 Nice to see you there. I hope you tried Dutch Pancakes (the savoury ones with meat... Not the "Space Pancakes"). Bike idea would be hard here because of land (road) encroachment and cars are status symbols. But I wish it would happen, we need less cars on the roads

Dhruv, I'm an architect and I'm so happy that you recognized this as an issue and analysed it so well. You should check the urban planning of bhuvaneshwar city. They have tried incorporating cycling tracks all over the city.
Very true..!! But there are people who ride out their motorcycles on it.Rather sometimes,cyclists are seen on motor lanes... Awareness is a must..

Chandigarh has cycle tracks those are deprecated from main road. Police is also strict and does not tolerate breaking traffic rules.
Cycling track in Bhubaneswar is now used for parking . I was happy when they started building that but it is again either used as vehicle track or parking. so Indian mentality of chor na kya hoga aur chalta hai is the main problem
They just tried it because of hockey world cup. There were cycles provided by govt. Now there's rarely any left or i dont think anybody even uses them.

yes chd is doing great effort in making cycle tracks and promoting them from roundabouts to slip roads....last week there was cycle campaign at sukhna lake for the same :)

Solution: We have Metros in maximum cities so we can have free cycle stand at Metro station so we can use cycle + public transport. This will reduce the usage of private vehicles.

Cycle parking is not safe anywhere in India. Many shopping malls don't even allow cycles to be parked

I used to cycle for 16 kms daily to commute to office from amersfoort to baarn, and i really liked the experience as i did that over 2.5 months in the netherlands, really appreciate your effort to bring this up for many more people who might not be aware of it.

I live in Bhubaneswar Odisha. Here before 2019 election the govt started "MO CYCLE" program where separate cycle lane is made almost all over the city.
Thousands of cycles were distributed by the govt all over the city. In every ½km-1km you'll find 5-10 cycles parked.
Here is what happened after 6 months:
1. It's not safe at all to cycle.
2. The red marked cycle lane faded after a day's rain.
3. Now there are food stalls and local stores on those cycle tracks.
Hope this year both people and the govt take it more seriously.

Bhubaneswar- the only place in Odisha where you can see development. The rest not so much unless you have a freaking steel plant or sth. By the way, BBSR is a posh area. This is worst choice for beginning a project like this. It will not only fail but also demotivate the policy makers and discourage further developments or discussions regarding the issue of pollution, safety of the rider, health and age groups of the riders and other ramifications. It was an election gimmick anyway and it served its purpose.

However, I must point out that making a city cyclable and walkable is also largely linked with landuse, densities and urban form too. Please do more videos on Tansit Oriented Development, Urban Sprawls and Community Based Planning. We Indians must be made aware of these issues to save ourselves before it's too late.

I have implemented this idea before. I bought bicycle for my office. I lived in gurgaon. In initial day my office just 1.5km far away from my pg and I can travel through my colony to my office. So it's safe because there are less cars but once I changed my office like 4 to 5 km far from my home. It's like nightmare to travel by cycle because at main road you can't drive your cycle. People neglect you that you are also driving.
And even I don't get parking for my cycle they said AP building k piche hi khadi KR do cycle hi to h.
So at last stopped driving my cycle to my work place.
I really liked this video and I hope that some day we can do something like this in our own country.
I think that first governments will have to motivate people for this and make it mandatory that you have to ride a bicycle on this day and people should also support it and encourage children to ride bicycles in all schools. And the teachers should know the cycle properly.

This would be like dream come true. I waste so much money on Auto in Bangalore for short distances because I am scared of riding a bicycle on road due to traffic and accidents.
Also, so many 2 wheelers even auto walas don’t even leave foot paths and drive on them to reach faster. So making bicycle lanes is huge challenge and then once they are made, so many other vehicles will anyway start misusing it.
have you heard about electric bicycles?
they are becoming quite popular in India, I have tried them in bangalore too and works great.
top speed is 25kmph, charge the battery at home. no need to pedal.
its quite fun and cheap (just 10paisa per km)
