All NEW Toyota Yaris GR Sport 2024 - FIRST LOOK exterior, interior

The 2024 Toyota Yaris GR Sport brings extra excitement to Toyota's popular B-segment hatchback. As a sportier take on the regular Yaris, the GR Sport model benefits from unique styling touches inside and out, plus the added performance of the new more powerful “Hybrid 130” powertrain.
On the outside, the Yaris GR Sport sets itself apart with exclusive 18-inch machined alloy wheels with red accents, a bespoke Dynamic Grey exterior color, and GR Sport badging on the front, rear, and side sills. The front grille also gets a G-motif mesh design to highlight the car's motorsport-inspired credentials. Overall, the styling enhancements give the Yaris GR Sport a more aggressive, sporty character compared to regular models.
The interior also gains some motorsport flavor, with front sports seats upholstered in black Ultrasuede with red accents and contrast stitching. Red stitching carries over to the perforated leather steering wheel, parking brake, and shifter boot. Aluminum sport pedals and GR badging on the seats, steering wheel, and start button further enhance the cockpit's sense of occasion.
While the cabin presentation is spiced up, space and practicality remain plentiful thanks to the Yaris' long wheelbase and wide front tracks relative to its compact exterior dimensions. Both front and rear passengers enjoy generous legroom, and ingress and egress are hassle-free thanks to the wide-opening doors. The 290-liter trunk is right-sized for a subcompact hatch and 60:40 split-folding rear seats allow transport of bulky items.
As expected from a GR Sport model, performance gets a healthy uptick courtesy of the new 1.5-liter three-cylinder “Hybrid 130” powertrain. Output rises to 130 hp and torque to 185 Nm, delivering stronger acceleration than the 116 hp standard hybrid system. Toyota claims 0-100 km/h in 9.2 seconds, about half a second swifter than regular Yaris hybrid models. The hybrid system’s innate efficiency remains intact, with 87-98 g/km CO2 emissions and 3.9-4.3 l/100km fuel consumption.
This newfound performance pairs nicely with the GR Sport’s sporting suspension setup which features stiffer springs and shock absorbers. The ride is firmer than a standard Yaris but compliant enough for everyday use. Quick steering weight provides extra agility through corners and body roll is kept nicely controlled. While not as razor-sharp as the full-bore GR Yaris, the GR Sport acquits itself nicely for a lively small hatch.
Versus rivals like the Hyundai i20 N Line and Volkswagen Polo GTI, the Yaris GR Sport splits the difference with a useable blend of performance and efficiency. It lacks the outright pace of the Polo GTI yet sips far less fuel. And the i20 N Line looks racier but lacks the Toyota's hybrid torque and refinement.
Of course, the GR Sport also benefits from the regular Yaris' generous standard safety kit including the latest Toyota Safety Sense suite with newly expanded accident prevention capabilities. Features like pedestrian and cyclist detection, intersection support, and emergency driving assist bring extra peace of mind.
On the tech front, the GR Sport sports a standard 7-inch digital instrument cluster with sporty graphics. A crisply rendered 10.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility provides a modern multifunction interface. Over-the-air software updates keep maps and apps current down the road.
With a starting price of around €25,000, the 2024 Toyota Yaris GR Sport slots in above mid-range Yaris models but below the new range-topping Yaris Premiere. For drivers wanting an extra dash of sportiness paired with Toyota’s proven hybrid efficiency, the GR Sport hits the sweet spot. It outguns the standard Yaris for driving enjoyment without the harshness of a full-bore hot hatch. Overall, the Toyota Yaris GR Sport adds welcomed fun-to-drive flair to Toyota's supermini stalwart.
