Wonderfully detailed nymph, not too difficult a tie. Beautiful as usual, Davie. Thanks for sharing a great pattern. Wish my eye were as creative as yours. Can't have everything I guess. All the best to you and yours. God Bless. It's the birthday of the U.S.A. tonight. I didn't think anyone would post, glad you did. Always love to see what's coming off your vise next. Sean
Hi Davie, I found out today that your videos are fantastic for calming my 3 week old daughter go to sleep when she becomes unsettled. Great for me as I love your videos anyway and now my wife can't moan at me for spending hours watching you tying as I have the "it's to settle her" excuse lol. Thank you 😉 Kind regards Sean
Hi Mr.McPhaiL, I'm frm S'pore, admire your work beautifully done v neat n precised been following your technic for the past 15years tk U v much hope to see more video frm you

Thank you for your reply. We ( my wife & I ) have enjoyed the videos & have learnt a lot from them. We were successful in fooling many fish with the Rhycophila,Edgebright & Pheasant Tail & Organza Pheasant Tail 😊
Ohio steelhead Davie ? You can bet your pants I'll be giving it a try! Your amazing buddy. Think's for another reason to watch your videos. God's speed best regards from Ohio.
Terrific fly and technique. This is basically a Hexagenia or Burrower? I don't believe these are very well represented on youtube or even in flyshops in the States so I really appreciate the instruction.
Hi +Teddy Cahil, I use a Law Vise which was made by a gentleman called Lawrence Waldron but unfortunately he no longer makes them... All the very best Davie
Hi +patrick mc carthy, I would say that if you were tying flies just for yourself a piece of wax would last you for many years.... All the very best Davie
Dear Davie, Very ingenious design to get the bug to travel upside down. I believe this could alleviate some of the frustrations of getting hung up on the bottom. And having to check your flies every few casts for muck on the hook . My question is. What are your thoughts on bead headed jig hooks for nymphs. I noticed you haven't tied any. And also haven't tied many bead heads in general. I know you are in UK and you guys have strong ideals. it considered not pure to use bead heads or jigs? Kind regards from Lappland. Colbee
Hi Colbee, I'm glad you liked the mayfly nymph...I do fish with bead headed flies but as you said I don't have many videos on youtube showing how to tye them which I should have as they are fished a lot here in the UK especially for Grayling..I have fished and tyed a few flies using the jig hooks but I've ran out at the moment.. All the very best Davie
Hi! 4. Back, Mottled NYMPH Skin & 7. Thorax Cover, Mottled NYMPH Skin - maybe Mottled THIN Skin (Wapsi)? The material in the video is very thin than Nymphskin.
I wonder whitc animal those long CDC feather come from. The other day I fund a dead svane, and I was looking foreward too all the CDC I would get for that big bird, and it was very short, and maybe 12 feathers
Hi Mark Zebley, It can be quite hard to find and as well it's not cheap but I uploaded a video of how to make your own flat lead using lead wire and a seam roller...I've attached a link to the video for you to see... th-cam.com/video/GVH_49xf-PI/w-d-xo.html All the very best Davie
+Davie McPhail I found some on ebay, I believe it is used to weight/balance golf clubs, tennis rackets, and the like. It is expensive, though. If you look around, you may find 1/4" width; even that seemed too wide, so I split it lengthwise with a pair of old scissors (don't use Your best). Great video!
Davie where can i buy really good quality CDC? All the cdc products ive bought have been rubbish 🙁 its always too small when it comes and struggle to get 2 turns around a body on a fly? Price is not an option will pay anything for quality cdc😀 thanks in advance
Hi memmnock, I am always looking for good CDC feathers and the best I have bought came from a gentleman in Ireland called Pat Nolan of Premier Angling as this is where I got the cdc I used it the video. He can be hard to contact as he does have a Facebook page as this is the best way...Another good source and who I have got some excellent natural grey CDC this year was form a gentleman called David Jedlicka but again he can only be contacted through Facebook..I wish I could be of more help to you.. All the very best Davie..
