Mk 3 Cortina best looking Ford in the 70,s . I worked as a mechanic at Bristol Street Motors and this model sold like hot cakes , everbody wanted one , if your the same age as me ,you will remember the Reps with their jackets hung on a coat hanger cruising up and down the Motorways. Must have been glory days for Ford Motor Company in the UK.

To me as an American, it looks like a big American four-door early-'70s Ford that got left in the dryer too long and shrunk. And that's not an insult, those Fords of that era were good-looking cars. Darn if the Mk III Cortina doesn't pull that look off beautifully.

I had a 2.0 XL estate and as usual the cam went. So off with the head Piper 270 cam , polish and ported,( Fords never cleaned up or took all the flashing off the ports ) , a Gt 4into 2 manifold and bigger jets for the twin choke Webber. Disillusioned lots of sporty cars but fuel consumption was frightening when used in anger. First passion wagon as well 😍. Happy memories of carefree era.

Great memories there, yeah, I had the 2 litre GT in red with black vinyl roof with the knocking Cam!, it was that feed pipe that ran along the side of the Head, the oil spray holes were too small. I fixed her up and she ran great until I knocked the void bushes out of the rear Axle!. Happy days.

In South Africa in the 1970's, we had the Mk III Cortina 3.0 XLE AND the Mk III Cortina 3.0 GT.
The GT was radically different to the XLE, but VERY similar to this car, including the following:
    1 - Double round headlamps
2 - Same tail lamps where the amber does not go all the way around to the side edge
3 - Similar black bonnet (hood), side and boot (trunk) lid stripes, but not exactly the same
4 - Similar high back front seats, but ever so slightly different to this
5 - Same 3 dial deep pot dashboard with extra gauges in the center console.
The XLE was the more luxurious Cortina while the GT was it's rorty, go-like-hell cousin .
Both were awesome cars, but very different in character. I liked both.

After my '55 Zephyr it was a different class, and with a neck snapping 0 - 60 of 12.1 seconds lol!
I remember seeing the first ones, and they looked really wide at the rear!
'76 I got my first one...a company car hand down, whilst waiting for a new one.
Styling wise, the two door was in a different league, and surprised there were so few on the road!

I always loved the beautiful lines of the Mk3, its one of those cars that looks great from every angle. Good choice of wheels, they remind of the Torque Thrusts from the Bullitt Mustang. With that paint job and wheels, it would be easy to mistake it for a classic American muscle car.
