I've got as much if not more respect for someone rescuing my favourite car ever as I do for the heroes that rescue and foster cats and dogs and other mistreated animals. My grandad had a 2litre Ghia in a sort of bronze colour. 4 door manual trans' My Mum used to borrow it and we went on holiday in it. Not lying she got it up to about 98 mph maybe 100 for a bit which at the time was super impressive. God it was a beautiful car. Literally my favourite car design ever. Keep up the good work, I hope it lasts forever.
To Mr. Bobcat. Glad you like the rescue of things - cars and animals! You should promise yourself one of these cars ( in excellent condition) since you're such a fan! Don't leave it any longer there aren't many left!
I had a 1973 mk3 2000xl estate which I passed my driving test in, the examiner commented that it was a large car for a test. Really loved that car and did over 200000 miles in her, oil and filter change every 3000 miles but did fit a new camshaft oil feed pipe every 10000. The car was waxoiled thoroughly from new and never had any rust on it until it was stolen and written off. Biggest headache were the rear void bushes, had to have a new set almost every year. Fantastic to see this one being rescued and restored. I take my hat off to you sir.
My grandfather bought this GXL 2l in brown new in 1972. I inherited it 15 years later when he passed away.i was 17 and kept it 3 years .watching this at 50yrs old has brought the most incredible memories. "Bloody hell look at that" .is all I keep saying .

Years ago 1970 i worked in Ford Parts ..so as you can imagine i know a lot about MK111,s ...i remember doing camshafts and followers ..doing insurance jobs all the body parts ..bonnets ..wings and the part numbers i,m 64 now lol ..bonnets are 16612 ..wings 16005 ..16006 (left and right) . The last car i rebuilt was a MK1 cortina ..i put a new engine in it 1500,, with the 1300 diff you could fly away in second gear lol . Also did Ford Anglia and put a 109 Classic short motor (1340 cc) in it ... which i bought redundant stock for ......£15 in 1973 ...the 1200 head fit on it no problem ..these days cars are rubbish ..nothing but electronics and crumbling alloy ..you cant touch them like the old ones . Great to see this video its worth the rescue... to keep this car alive and amazing how everything worked out after standing so long ..brilliant !!
thanks for this. wow parts dept at Ford !!!! the price of all those panels these days!!! a new wing if good NOS is £400-500 yes todays modern cars.......euro boxes.glad you liked the vis, its now up to part 8 of the resto vid, and have a look at the video series called PROJECT BRAMBLE you will recognise all the panels lol !!! all the best from Pete.
Nice one 👍 My 94yo POP gave me his Cortina 6 cylinder in mulberry colour 4.1L which he purchased in 1974 off the showroom floor in a dealer in Sydney for $3,100 Original 83,000 Kim and never in a accident and interior was immaculate, just needed a little warm water sponge scrub.. I wanted to leave it looking standard but give a bit of kick under the bonnet so I installed a little 289 V8 It sounds very sweet and purrs along
I had the 2000 GT MK 3 back in the day, and that car looked hard! GT wheels, 660 Firestone tires, and a tiny Momo steering wheel. That's when driving was fun. Great memories.
I'm not too sure why more people don't do that. My first car when I moved to London was an 1.5 Alfasud that I found abandoned on Chiswick High Road; it ran on just two cylinders until I found a gem of an Alfa Romeo specialist in Perivale who got it running a treat.
You car restoring guys absolutely amaze me. I bought a new Cortina mk3 back in the 70's and it was rusty in less than a year. I was heartbroken as it was my first new car.
Brian, the poor things rusted from day one, shame, gotta try and look after whats left of em now, they look cool compared to a lot of todays modern cars, especially on Motorway thanks again Brian for taking time out to watch! from Pete, Lancs
just like the very first car that I had but not as bad I just wish I had the knowledge to do what this man does ,watched every episode of swampy just love mk3 cortinas doing a great job well done
+Alex Freeburn Hiya Alex ! wow thanks for those kind words of encouragement, in the early days Mike showed the way, set the path, he was the master.....im doing ok on my own these days but some of early swampy films were comic class with Mike! we hope hes getting on ok with his projects which im sure will be mint when done.
Pete C Oh............groan! It wasn’t even that bad when l scrapped it. It just needed sills! I better not mention the two Fiat Mirafiores that l scrapped around the same time!
That is quite a rare luxury model the 2 door GXL. You won't find many of those still in existence. It pleases me no end to know this car will be saved! 😊
Terrance well spotted and thank you for the comment. Sorry for my late reply, yes you are right very rare too considerign the orginal colour on this car is Silver Fox which intself was rare on any m3 cortian let alone a 2 door gxl. its automatic and has red interior, again rare, also its a rare crossover model with later wheels Ford Allsports, 1972 K reg built in January. The restoration project is being fully documented on youtube., it follows hot on the heels of my previous restoration PROJECT RUBY, i have a twitter feed (@pno922k) and a patreon (www.patreon.com/cortina) to document everything. Hope you enjoy the projects, all the best , Pete , Lancs, UK
In my first job when I was 18 I was sent off to Leicester for a day to inspect a building site. I had ordered an Escort from a car hire company but when I arrived from the station they didn't have one. I was given a 2 litre Cortina GXL instead. I got in, the instruments were buried deep in the dash, a long red bonnet stretched out in front of me, the engine went vroom - I lost all sense of responsibility and became one of the Cortina Boys! Incredibly I managed to return it intact. I have always thought the Mk.3 was a fantastic piece of styling and they still look good to me. Designed in Detroit, I presume?
Great work bringing these car's a new life chap's, brings back memories of my dad's k reg in metallic bronze and a mate's k reg gxl in yellow, i was the escort man !
Brilliant Pete, It must have been an emotional moment when the pinto breathed life again. Love the 3 on the floor T shifter and look forward to the restoration. Long live the Mk3. Cheers
+Colin Field Colin couldnt belive it when the 19mm spanner turned and the starter motor finshed the job and spun it over, slow at first but then it sped up, amazing COlin, thanks mate for nice reply!
To Colin Field. Talking of BRITISH , some idiots always run down anything British. The fact that is still r e s t o r a b l e after all this time is surely impressive!
nice reg!!! and a great road trip to Penrith, jct 38 !! M6 im up there every weekend, lakes area, Yorkshire moors north lakes. Pete ps the car is being restored, ive uploaded some vids. Charlie...thank you, Pete maybe LOV is still out there!!!!???? ill keep a look out
@@PeteCswampy no sadly I had to abandon here up in Stranraer when she just wouldn't start....full tank of fuel and ready for the final trip home to Penrith. I left the keys in her and the paperwork and had to get a taxi to Penrith....in an even older mk3 estate car.... I've always regretted having to leave her as she was truly a great car, cruise all the way home and hammer around the back roads of the countryside.... We drive them hard back then, as they where meant to be. Keep saving them, they are the best model they made. Charlie
I used to own a 1973 (L plate) 3 Litre Capri GXL, one of the first Twin Headlight Capris in the country....Loved that car, still have some black and white photos of it.....Copper Bronze with a white vinyl roof......I was only 21 years old at the time.
VERY NICE Capri Very Nice. one of my all time fave versions rare. copper bronze, aint that a really good colour, lovely, thanks mate for sharign that, and thanks for watching th echannel, im well on with the resto on this now, Pete
Good to see you are restoring this motor, remember my dad had 2 of these but didn’t maintain them properly. Camshafts used to wear out due to the oil bar becoming blocked up but she does sound sweet 👍
My first car was a sapphire blue 2 door Mk 3 cortina 1300L. EMT111J was the registration. Lovely car. I bought it when i was 16 and passed my test in it when I was 17.
Hi Pete love your videos and how you bring back these beautiful old mk3's back from the brink I've always loved the mk3 since my uncle took me up to the lakes in he's 2000 GT back in the late 70's and touched the magic 100 mph funny how things like that stick in your mind and it turned me into a life long ford man, theft is becoming a problem these days I got followed last year luckily I lost em at a set of lights the scum bags! Like u I live on the outskirts of the same city but the other side I look forward to seeing u on the roads and I'll give u a flash and a friendly wave and once again thanks for saving these beautiful pieces of history,I'd better start saving up as I now want a 2.0 gt ha ha and I'll start catching up on your videos, drive safe :)
Another brilliantly informative and interesting video Pete,it is indeed a tribute to the old girl that she came back to life relatively easiy after so long.Look forward to meeting you and the car in March.
Pete C I know that getting a Cortina MK3 would be difficult in road worthy condition or am I wrong in thinking that. Also the big question is how much would one cost
Pete C I have seen 2 Cortina a few yrs ago driving round Warrington, Cheshire where I live i just stopped in my tracks and stared at them drive by lol. I can still smell the newness and the 70s smell of the interior after my old man had cleaned it on a summers day I sat in driving seat wishing the car was mine age 15. Cortina 1.6XL orange with black vinyl roof. I ever get the cash and I'd buy one mate haha
Stephen, hi and welcome to cortina city, wow wow all i can say its an HONOUR to know someonw who worked at dagenham, can you share any stories for us?? would love to know more about your time at Ford Stepehen. from Pete
Lovely nostalgic footage my father had a 1.6 XL in Monza blue with black vinyl roof bought it new in 1973 until I wrapped it around a tree in 1985 and binned it for good. 50 mph crash but car just disintegrated but got out with just broken leg, thing that scared me the most was had to cut myself out as couldn't undo seat belt but lucky I had pen knife in pocket. Sorry dad (if you can here me)
I know its not the same.... but i remember the feeling of amazement, as a teenager, when i bought an old b.s.a bike that had been sat in someones garden for over twelve years covered over with pieces of carpet and tarpaulins, not run since 1980 , after the complete flush out of old oil, fuel, complete new wiring, that moment when the motor bursts into life, and you briefly dissapear in a cloud of white smoke as all the crap is burnt out of the exhausts for the first time in decades, its priceless!!, something always to be treasured
Eddie i think it is the same! you are right its just that feeling of making it all good again and doing something positive and creative, making good use of time, i understand Eddie, all the best from Pete and thank you for your reply and taking time to watch, means a lot,
This post made me smile. What I'd give to go back to my early childhood when people would dump 60s-80s cars all over the place in car parks, when I guess they weren't worth anything for scrap metal. There was a 70s MK2 Vauxhall Viva and an early 80s Skoda Rapid/Estelle dumped in my local church car park for what felt like years. Used to see them every day on my way to primary school and it made going to church (pre-atheist days ;) worth it, just to grab a badge or two off them each week. I loved them and as a kid dreamed that I could make them work and drive them. One day they disappeared and that was that. What I'd give to go back in time, put them in a garage and learn to restore them with the help of the brains on TH-cam here. I got introduced to a guy who runs a Ford restoration business in Kent last week and his workshop is full of classics being restored from the shell up. I love the stuff that we used to see so commonly once upon a time. I don't care if it's a 1 litre Fiesta or a cosworth, to me they're all worth something! I love seeing cars like this brought back to life. I've always been into cars but never really messed with the mechanics until literally a couple of months ago when I decided I was gonna watch a few TH-cam vids and service my cars to save some ££s. I've got a first year MK3 1989 Fiesta outside now that's just failed its MOT on brake work. People have told me to just weigh it in but it seems wrong to kill a working retro car that's becoming more and more rare. So to hell with that, I'll save up my pennies and get it fixed up in the new year. Or teach myself how to fix some of the things. I'm gonna cost it in oil to keep the corrosion at bay (plenty of rust as you can imagine) and look forward to it being my daily driver once we're outta winter. But I digress! These cars are the best.
amazing to see this after seeing it finished. You had a lot of work there and you did it well, hard to believe that this very car is most likely the best Cortina around!
I'm no mechanic but this looks pretty good given that it hasn't been on the road in 30 years. All the best with it. Loving the T handle auto shifter - a piece of art imo.
+Generation Renter T bar, you like me, yes i agree its work of art, just looks right and it feels good n solid, always like the ford s t shift stick. the green indicator light always looks good. Yes it not been on road since 83 so thats 32 years !! and it drives ! crazy!!
mind blwing work loving caring and a very profesional approach to a very much deserved resto i think you guys should definatly have a tv program i could learn a lot of patience from all this
The mkIII was my fav. cortina. mkI was awful, mkII my second fav. MkIV joint second. For 2 years I was the proud owner of a mkIII 1600 GT, with the german built engine and overhead cams. Beautiful car all round! Also had an old (at the time) MKII 2000E. This brings back memories of those old GF's, 70's music and big wide back seats.
Gus I know what you mean my brother had an orange xl auto he used to slide it round the roundabout with me in the back!!! its the coke bottle style that does it Gus!
Good to meet you, Maizey and Swampy today towards the end of the day at the NEC. Made my day! ( I restored a Modena Green MK3 20 years ago. Keep up the good work! - and the updates!
Great to know your going to fix it up and give it the love it deserves. My dad had a 1600 E cortina I'm not sure of the year I'm 37 in October and he ad it when I was 3r4 there is a picture of me sitting on the bonnet. Best of luck with her I no you'll do her rite.
Love your car, dirt and all. wish we had that ford in the US, we had the Ford maverick, I owned a 1972 maverick 2door similar to yours. so much fun. Chicago, us
Hi Larry, darn it I wanna go to CHicago!!! ONE DAY ILL GET THERE. all the best from here in UK and can I thank you for your comment and taking time to watch the films. plenty more to come Larry. I here you can ship your car to America, im considerign that one day for a route 66 trip
Classic,,able to be worked on, no fancy machines needed ,no plugging into the laptop ,,cars sweet, love the older ones, bikes also ,new ones ruin the look wrapped in plastic..
I live in Michigan USA. Back in the 1960's I had A Cortina MK 2 GT 2 door use to road rally in Watford Mi with it until my brother totaled it. I have a lot of the parts from it R/L complete doors with glass, starter in a whole lot of others parts. If you or know somebody that is interested in Cortina parts leave a comment to me here. I am in the Detroit Michigan area in the US.
would love to know what parts you have there, and wow you are in the Motor City, super always good to hear from across the pond. I wonder if i can work a deal with you and get parts shipped if we sort a price. Best wishes from UK and |THANK YOU for getting in touch, from Pete
hi Tony, thanks for comment, way back in 83 so you a true GXL guy!!!!! nice......ok car resto is well underway, chack recent vids and all the best, Pete
can't believe people give your video a thumbs down the car sounds amazing love the video can't wait to see the progress of this car reminds me of my dad he had a cortina for years great car and great video thanks for the memories.
Just replying to my OWN comment - about nice Sears. Just seen a bit more of the video and realised the seats do need restoring - but that would be well worth it! And a car that isn't just all black or grey inside like today!
This is a good video Pete, the engine ticks over nice. I always liked the cortina's myself I'm 56 so grew up with these I was an auto electrian in the late 70's and worked on many of these plus my dad had taxi business and used the mk3
thanks Barry! yes a lot used as taxis in the day, if you look at em though, they were rustin out in like 3 years , they just didint survive the rust, however im on with this rebuild now, car is all stripped, its filmed on my channel, cillit bang barry!!!!
+David Lisney David, threes a lovely feeling on the BORG WARNER auto unit it kind of surges thru the gears feels lovely it pulls back a bit when swapping gears, they all do it, (got an auto GXL in green too) all the best Dave
+Pete C I think my first ever journey in a MK3 Cortina was in 1970, maybe 1971, as a kid it seemed huge, like an American car, only a 1.6L. Many years later my brother had a 2.0GXL, engine was very tired, needless to say within a month of changing the engine the car was stolen. Great to see you preserving these cars. I think the only auto Mk3 I ever rode in was a 2.0 GT. Bizarrely I remember the registration number...
Used to own one,4 door g l xManual 👍Reg kHs 15k , the colour is Daytona yellow , you can’t tell from that one, love to see it restored nice car to drive
John thanks, and great to hear from someone who drove one backin the day, thats good reg KHS 15K wow nice.,John, i well on with the resto its called PROJECT BRAMBLE, have a look and thank you !! from PEte
Silver Fox with the black vinyl roof and dark red/burgundy interior, that's going to be a fantastic looking car when she's finished, if you keep her original, and that gearbox is truly amazing for a car that sat for 32 years, the way that drops into gear so quickly and smoothly I doubt if it needs more than a fluid change and filter to be fit for plenty of service. I'll bet that's a genuine low mileage car...
yes the summer of 76! 3 months of heat. I was 7 years old i think , the vinyl seats on ya legs if you has shorts on in the back. Dalek lime ice lollys in 76 and top deck shandy! darm why do we have to grow up!! I wanna be a kid forever, i think if you stay silly you live longer ! so more crazy videos are the order of the day, Happy New Year to you this evening and thanks Tony for watching! how did you find the channel if it ok to ask!! all the best. Pete.
Same experience in '76...Off to Butlins, N.wales. Mk3 think my dad hired or borrowed it. Black vinyl seats It wasn't white i think chocolate brown....It overheated and my mum got shouted at for switching the starter while he was under the bonnet. It was a proper sweat- box!
Much respect is due for what you're doing with the Tinas, I was amazed to see how far it had come since Pt2- I was expecting it not to run at all and have seized up everything and wiring to be totally shot! Really looking forward to seeing the progress videos as I know you'll get Maizey back to her old glory :)
This is one Cortina that is well worth saving as the two doors were few and far between back in the day! Remember you do not need MOT on this now and it is tax exempt
+Kim Henriksen Good that he got out ok!!! thanks for the view and writing a reply on here. When you hit a tree they dont move and the car just crumples, trees are nice things but they dont agree with cars at speed !
Les plus belles années pour les modèles FORD . Cortina - Taunus et capris je vous envie même si j'ai eu la chance de pouvoir rouler avec ce genre de voiture
That's a great find!! Tub is bad but the frame is good and sounds really clean. You gotta get it all stripped and put in some wrench time and it'll be brilliant!!
Great video Pete, Cant wait to see more of the car...I have a 73 2dr GT in my lockup that's sat there since 1990...I haven't opened the door for the last 15 yrs....its probably looks like this one by now...lol..
The only thing I would have done is clean all the crap and rubbish out of it to get it looking its best and to be able to truly see it. A little time with a hoover inside and a brush on the cobwebs. Great to watch and looking forward to the next video after watching this.
@@PeteCswampy Man, these vids of yours have been absolutely fascinating. Decided to subscribe and have a nosey after seeing you on HubNut's channel. You're doing the Ford God's work, sir.

Even in that condition it's still a beautiful car, I love those classics.
To KJO. A thing of beauty is a joy forever!
I had DBB 679J, a mustard yellow 1600GT, 2-door, with a black vinyl roof.. sadly it was scrapped.
James your car was one of the first off the line, Maize yellow was EARLY colour first 6 months
Pete C
Oh............groan! It wasn’t even that bad when l scrapped it. It just needed sills! I better not mention the two Fiat Mirafiores that l scrapped around the same time!
That car would look awesome all restored, right down to the color.
im restoring at the moment its called project bramble thanks for reply
For pulling the girls
I have an original mk3 2000gt cortina 73 4door manual, turquoise colour , amazing car 60,200 miles on the clock, passed down from my late grandfather.
The guy in charge of the Mk3 development and design at the time was an ex Ford USA exec Harley Copp, hence the American flavour, coke flavour. ;¬)
looking forward to seeing progress on this one, almost brings a tear to the eye seeing she is still alive...
Good find
To Colin Field. Talking of BRITISH , some idiots always run down anything British. The fact that is still r e s t o r a b l e after all this time is surely impressive!
I had a 2000 GT MK3 Onyx Green Met 1973 , back in the late 80's , would love to have another one .
I have a 73 mk3 gt cortina 2l torquise colour pretty much all original awesome car still havent seen another one here in n.z
Pleased you found it before the banger boys Pete , great find mate . A rare car indeed and deserves a resto 👍
LOV696P my first car, Dark blue, 2ltr GXL manual 4 door....travelled from Stranraer to home in Penrith regularly....still miss her
Peace
Charlie UK 🇬🇧
nice reg!!! and a great road trip to Penrith, jct 38 !!
Charlie
Amazing work. Great to see these old cars restored.
thank you Mark
The pinto was a nice simple reliable engine. Had the 1.6 in a transit van. Was great.
greta engines so tough and easy to work on
My first car was a sapphire blue 2 door Mk 3 cortina 1300L. EMT111J was the registration. Lovely car. I bought it when i was 16 and passed my test in it when I was 17.
I had a 1.6 l version of this car, then I got a 2000E manual 4 door, similar colour to this one, wish I still had that car.
+Roger Coleman Roger it will be good to meet you, ill be ther ein March
first car I ever drove was the Cortina back in the mid 70s. love on of these if I could afford one to run one
David, insurance (over 25) is £120 a year, tax is free, parts on engine are cheap, only expensive bit is body panels
Pete C I know that getting a Cortina MK3 would be difficult in road worthy condition or am I wrong in thinking that. Also the big question is how much would one cost
decent one around £4-5 K real minter £8
lol £8K
Pete C I have seen 2 Cortina a few yrs ago driving round Warrington, Cheshire where I live i just stopped in my tracks and stared at them drive by lol. I can still smell the newness and the 70s smell of the interior after my old man had cleaned it on a summers day I sat in driving seat wishing the car was mine age 15. Cortina 1.6XL orange with black vinyl roof. I ever get the cash and I'd buy one mate haha
Lovely. I inherited my father's mk3 1600 L SLO491L in 1983. Head gasket blew in 86' and I traded it in For a Fiat Uno. Love the MK3.
i had an NREG 2000GT 2 door with the small sized steering wheel lovely black colour beautiful car those were the days,
Golden Days Malik!!!
Amazing its all still working! I used to build Mk4 Cortinas at Dagenham
Eddie Caplan You had an old BEEZA??still got it??
amazing to see this after seeing it finished. You had a lot of work there and you did it well, hard to believe that this very car is most likely the best Cortina around!
Thank you! Cheers!
Love the old mk3 nice to see people keeping them alive,,,even in that state it still looks great
This is will be a lovely 1972 mk 3 cortina when completely restored
I'm no mechanic but this looks pretty good given that it hasn't been on the road in 30 years. All the best with it.
Loving the T handle auto shifter - a piece of art imo.
+Generation Renter T bar, you like me, yes i agree its work of art, just looks right and it feels good n solid, always like the ford s t shift stick. the green indicator light always looks good. Yes it not been on road since 83 so thats 32 years !! and it drives ! crazy!!
mind blwing work loving caring and a very profesional approach to a very much deserved resto i think you guys should definatly have a tv program i could learn a lot of patience from all this
i try spreadin word with mags etc but no luck
Lovely to see the cortina is going to be saved
+jonathan donne Jonathan, no probs ill make sure i make a nice job of this car. stay tuned. and thanks for the comment.
+Graham Welch Great to meet you !!!!!!!!!!!!! so glad you got to say hi it was great
What a absoloute beast !!! i love all old Fords and that engine sounds sweet ,good luck on her restoration mate
thanks!!!!
Best wishes from UK and |THANK YOU for getting in touch, from Pete
great video very interesting I shall be watching your project. I had a 2000 gxl in 1983 a great car. tony Leicestershire.
hi Tony, thanks for comment, way back in 83 so you a true GXL guy!!!!! nice......ok car resto is well underway, chack recent vids and all the best, Pete
Cant believe you got this running so easily
you obviously didn't see the other episodes, search this title.
That sounds really smooth after being laid up for so long, good to see it all works well.
+AdyB1978 Ady, yes i cant believe it, took it out down ahem private road :-)
Had one of these in 4 Door when i was stationed in Athens Greece in the 80's
Omg what a sweet motor. Sounds like new.
can't believe people give your video a thumbs down the car sounds amazing love the video can't wait to see the progress of this car reminds me of my dad he had a cortina for years great car and great video thanks for the memories.
same guy does all the thumbs down
@@PeteCswampywell, we will give that guy a thumbs down ourselves!
The seats are beautiful!
Just replying to my OWN comment - about nice Sears. Just seen a bit more of the video and realised the seats do need restoring - but that would be well worth it! And a car that isn't just all black or grey inside like today!
Hi Pete really enjoy your videos. Im looking forward to seeing this beauty get the full TLC its crying out for. Keep up the good work.
+mike cortina MIke ill get on this dont you worry, thanks and im glad you enjoy the films, ill post one new one for you soon (pt8 of ruby due soon)
I've just found your channel. ... I hope it makes it ? .... I had two MK III Cortina's, and this brings back great memories !!
Great car, will enjoy watching you restore this one
+adumanter thanks ill get on this soon
Great stuff buddy saved it from the scrap 😉👍👌
Can't wait to see it when it's like new again.. They don't make them like they used to 👌
thanks Paulie, the resto is going good ive put loads of vids up PROJECT BRAMBLE
This is a good video Pete, the engine ticks over nice. I always liked the cortina's myself I'm 56 so grew up with these I was an auto electrian in the late 70's and worked on many of these plus my dad had taxi business and used the mk3
thanks Barry! yes a lot used as taxis in the day, if you look at em though, they were rustin out in like 3 years , they just didint survive the rust, however im on with this rebuild now, car is all stripped, its filmed on my channel, cillit bang barry!!!!
The GXL Cortina sound really nice and quiet. Looking forward to the strip down and rebuild in future videos.
i had a nice 1600gt my fav car ever wish i still had it.
Amazing how the electrics and engine work so well after 30+ plus years in a field!
...and a damp English field at that!
Watching this reminds me of my first ever journeys in these, always prefered manuals but the autos were great too.
+gosportjamie i was suprised how the gearbox ran...yes silver, red interior.....nice nice nice !!
Pete C I'm looking forward to following this restoration, she's going to be a show stopper when she's finished...
Great! My dad (as did everyone's) had an M reg. It had black vinyl seats which were super hot in the summer of '76. Painful. It was white.
yes the summer of 76!
Brilliant. Your enthusiasm is inspiring.
+Chris Allison Chris, cheers ill do my best on Maizey!!!!! thanks mate for watching.
This is one Cortina that is well worth saving as the two doors were few and far between back in the day! Remember you do not need MOT on this now and it is tax exempt
thanks John, im on with the resto as we speak, its going good, ive uploaded some vids, thanks for the comment John, always appreciated. from Peter
Although it doesn't need an MOT it still has to comply with what used to be called "Construction and Use" regulations.
My father crashed a Ford Cortina into a tree💥🌲when he was young😑 i'm lucky he's OK ✨✨ But the Ford was game over.
+Kim Henriksen Good that he got out ok!!! thanks for the view and writing a reply on here. When you hit a tree they dont move and the car just crumples, trees are nice things but they dont agree with cars at speed !
NEVER ! argue with a tree
Never hit a tree while on a motorcycle in a car you have a chance ..your fucked on a bike
Anybody watching this in 2020, you need to go on Pete's channel and check out the finished article. Bramble is now a thing of sheer beauty!
great job "Pete C", I enjoyed watching it. I wish to be there during its restoration of outlook.
thank you!
Les plus belles années pour les modèles FORD .
Cortina - Taunus et capris
je vous envie même si j'ai eu la chance de pouvoir rouler avec ce genre de voiture
That's a great find!! Tub is bad but the frame is good and sounds really clean. You gotta get it all stripped and put in some wrench time and it'll be brilliant!!
Cant wait to see a new roof going on Maizey. Glad this car came to you Pete.
+Tyler Musseau ill get a roof on, just gotta do ruby
Great video Pete, Cant wait to see more of the car...I have a 73 2dr GT in my lockup that's sat there since 1990...I haven't opened the door for the last 15 yrs....its probably looks like this one by now...lol..
Surprising how you got the car going on it*s own.
Massive job.looking forward to seeing the finished car
Nice to see another saved and looked after Pete
+carbonfootprintmyass its in safe hands, plenty on at moment but shes wrapped up under a cover safe and im running it up and down each day
Amazed the clock still works.
+MerleOberon it was crazy it all fired up!
The only thing I would have done is clean all the crap and rubbish out of it to get it looking its best and to be able to truly see it. A little time with a hoover inside and a brush on the cobwebs. Great to watch and looking forward to the next video after watching this.
Most of these have gone the way of the Sierras, Granada's, Cougars, all jags and big Opel's/Vauxhalls
Smashed up by banger pikeys
Awesome, this is like British version of 'Christine' or something. Fantastic!
thanks!!!!!
@@PeteCswampy Man, these vids of yours have been absolutely fascinating. Decided to subscribe and have a nosey after seeing you on HubNut's channel. You're doing the Ford God's work, sir.
what a car!!! I be happy to sit in it all day.
+Shaun Pearce ha! Shaun i keep going out and startign it up!
even the suspension looks tight .
and the engine dosnt sound cammy .nice start to a good project.
all these cortina videos making me think of a mk3 estate to do up.
+Ian Jones Ian yes supsension sits well and it rides well!
Great car! Cant wait to see it done!

It's worth the work, nice classy little car the 2dr are nice
