    One of the many things I appreciate about your channel is that you don't title your videos with "Click Bait" words. I have stopped following so many other resellers because they have titles that are catchy, but rarely get to the point. Your channel is no nonsense and it is greatly appreciated! That being said, I did enjoy your recent video that was comedic with the Beanie Babies, etc. Keep up the great work! Love everything you do.

      I agree. This is my favorite account to watch for that very reason. Very straight forward! But I do understand why they do that. It keeps them relevant and makes them money on TH-cam. I understand the way the system works, it’s just flawed! If Justin were out to make the majority of his income from TH-cam, he’d probably have to do similar things. But that doesn’t seem to be the case

    FYI - In Terapeak / Product Research, you can see the list date of active items. Not exactly how long did it take to sell, but gives you a sense how long items listed at various prices have been listed, which has been helpful for me!

    On odors, I use an ozone generator. I picked up about 100 LPs that had been stored in a basement and smelled very musty. It wasn't the albums themselves, instead it was the paper sleeves and cardboard dust jackets. From there, I hung them on the clothes line. Used car dealers use ozone generators to remove smoker smell in cars. I picked up my generator on Amazon Prime day. Not save to breathe! On free stuff, I have stopped at Goodwill on the way home and donated a lot of it. I bought ten bicycles once, only one was worth flipping. The rest never made it home. I made my offer based on what the single bike was worth, not all ten of them. Seller had their home for sale and needed the pile of bikes GONE. On Terrapeak, for active listings, it will show you when the item was originally listed. I just looked up an item, where the oldest listing was OVER seven years old...

    I had a similar situation as the person who shipped wrong. I shipped wrong. They opened a case. I admitted my error, told them to keep it. I'll send them the correct item on my dime. I did that & when the buyer got it they said thank you and then sent me the wrong item back on their dime. I told them not to. It wasn't that big a deal but they said they didn't feel right keeping it.

    Pit to pit measurements really depend upon the garment. In the photos, i put the pit to pit and have the buyer figure it out..but in reality if the shirt is a form fitting athletic shirt, a 40 inch chest will measure out to be 20 inch pit to pit or even a bit less (especially if there is any spandex in the material). A 40 inch chest jacket however will be more like 21 inch. Puffy jacket a bit more. Suit jackets are closer to true measurements, close to 20.5 inches for a size 40. But sporfs coats are meant to be a bit loose, so more like 21 or 21.5 inch to be more roomy. Basically factor in the thickness of the maerial times two. It depend on the kind of shirt or jacket. Only if theres a really big descrepency should you realy worry or note it in the comments - like if the size chart of a cotton shirt says it should fit a 38 inch chest and the pit to pit is 17, then it probably has shrunk and you gotta really underline this fact or else youll get a return

    • @shannongreenlaw321
      @shannongreenlaw321 22 วันที่ผ่านมา

      very helpful! As a clothes seller, when it says chest, should I put the pit to pit measurement (ex 20) or 40? Also when measuring pit to put, should I try to measure seamline going down the side to the other side under armpit of it laid flat? I usually measrue pit to pit flat laid and try to rach the one side's seamline

    • @mkohare
      @mkohare 22 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @shannongreenlaw321 yes it sounds like youre measuring it right. For chest size i would put 40. Then say in the description "see photos for measurements" and they can figure out the rest. But if, say, its a sports coat and the tag says size 40, but pit to pit is 21 i would not put 42 as the chest in the item specifics since it is meant to be roomier than a suit jacket. Id just put 40 in that case. If theres no size tag and youre unsure, i would just leave that item specific blank and let the photos with the ruler measurements do the talking for the customer. Hope that helps.

    Hello Justin. I started a small eBay reselling business this summer to make a bit of additional income and help my family get rid of some of our unused junk, and things have been going pretty well. I've been following your tips and have found your channel very useful.
    The problem is that I'm a college student, and in about a week I'm moving back to my school, which is located in a smaller town. I'll be within close walking distance of a post office and can take most of my listed items with me, so I will be able to keep fulfilling orders on my active listings. But my ability to source new items and list consistently is going to be significantly reduced. I won't have regular access to a car, so garage and estate sales are mostly out of the question. There's a small number of thrift stores in town I can walk or take public transit to, but I can only do this once every week or two. I'm holding some of my smaller inventory and plan to schedule out these listings for when I'm away from home, but I only have enough to guarantee one new listing per week. Do you have any advice on what I can do to maintain some level of listing consistency and try to keep my active listings in search results? I know the eBay algorithm likes frequent and consistent new listings. Thanks for all you do.

      You need to tell all the people that you go to school with what you do, they may have things they want sold, alternatively just give them to you... many people could be very helpful... lots of people out there with extra doodads they no longer need...Laxvespa-LosAngeles .... also for some of those heavier outer coats jackets garments it never hurts to hose them off dry them off outside... turn them inside out so they actually get dry... you can also gently wash leather in a mesh - bag in a washer, it's amazing how it looks... just make sure it gets dry...

    Your story about how you would rather work on electrical then plumbing because electrical doesn't drop on you and flood you basement reminded me of a story when I was in the military. I worked on aircraft environmental systems which was air conditioning, heat, oxygen, Anti-G equipment. Anyway, I was in the dorms washing my cloths and a coworker walked in and asked me what I was doing? I responded laundry....duh. He asked why.....did you spill some "AIR" on your uniform. It had to be the funniest and yet biggest put down for my career field I had ever heard. By the way, the guy was a hydraulic troop so his career field was even worse then a plumber when it comes to hydraulic fluid spilling on you and having to walk around smelling like it all day.

    For a moldy or musty smell on paper items like books, put in a plastic bag and sprinkle baking soda in and around it. Seal the bag and put it in the freezer for 3-6 weeks. The baking soda will absorb the odor. The freezer will kill the mold spores. Then just throughly shake or brush off the baking soda.

    For smells, especially smoke, seal the item in a plastic bag with a bar of ordinary deodorant soap and let it sit for a few days. Smells gone! I bought some quilted fabric that wreaked of cigarette smoke (what was I thinking?) and used this method with amazing results. I have never laundered the fabric, and there is not a trace of smoke smell.

    An ozone generator is an easy and effective way to remove not only the smell of smoke, but also sewage, mildew, and mould. With a mobile unit, you can put use it in each room until the cigarette smoke smell is gone, then move it to the next room.

    If the items is safe to get moist, Febreze works wonders in getting rid of smells. Its not just for fabrics. I have had toys that smell bad, and being plastic, they were perfectly fine getting moist. So I spray, leave it alone to naturally dry. And then repeat as necessary.

    Hi Justin, Another great video. Keep up the good work. You showed how you sold a jacket during the summer time and it reminded me of something I've come across while comping and checking STR on jackets. If I pick them up during the summer, for instance right now in August, I feel like the STR and prices will be skewed because of the off season. How do you decide what's worth listing when you have seasonal data like that?

    Maybe someone said here but sharing back along the lines of the question on how long something has been listed on eBay before it's sold. My comment here is about active items, not sold item so not quite the same but still a piece of info if you hadn't noticed before. *If you have a store you can look at Terapeak/Research tab > then Product Research Tab, search your thing then when looking at the "Active" items you'll see over on the far right a "Start Date" for all those items. I've used this date as one more piece of information about how an items or category is performing. You have to judge if things are priced too high or something like that for yourself and it doesn't tell you if that person is selling multiple units off that one listing or anything like that but, it can be one more piece of info for helping you make better purchasing decisions if you really want to drill down to this kind of detail. Might be worth it on something that feels too expensive to buy for reselling. I've used this more so when reviewing pricing on existing items but could be helpful for deciding when to purchase if you have the time/luxury of a computer when reviewing. Happy thifting all!

    Yes, in my listings (8:33) I've always specified the buyer should measure their favourite clothing and compare it to the item they want to buy from me. Regarding items that smell like smoke: I put "smells like smoke" in the title (not just the description or listing details), thinking that a smoker will buy the item (same with items that have cat hair on them, or even smell like mothballs). And regarding how long something takes to sell: sometimes a long time, which is why ebay should probably be a side hustle, sits there until a buyer comes along. There's always a buyer, it just takes time. Regarding thrift stores, and how long to be there: I'm the same as JR; be curious and leisurely, one day it's an ink cartridge worth $50, another day it's crocodile boots, or even sunglasses; maybe like my friend who found a legit rhino horn, or even a hand crafted vase like another friend, confirmed by the artist to be theirs and worth $6k. You can get to know the staff and when certain items come on to the floor. Thanks for a great video.
    Question: i'm selling vintage lego for a friend and have 2 rubbermaid tubs full of it. What's the best way to prep and sell vintage lego?

    Hey Justin, love the show. Was wondering what you think about this idea, to get rid of death pile items you are going to throw away or re-donate why not just give the buyers as a free gift. I think this would equate to a tax write off as well as an incentive for buyers to revisit your store at a later date to make another purchase. Things are tight so why not take every advantage we can get.

    Something I noticed recently is that ebay no longer allows you to do a custom percent for promoting when you create a new listing. Also, all the prior items that have been listed for months have been raised to some arbitrary amount way higher than the 2% I initially specified. Even if you change it to a custom percent after the fact, it will change it to the much higher rate immediately after. How are they allowed to jack my fees up like that without me knowing?

    Hey Justin, your videos have really helped me become a more balanced lister, so I have recently started listing DVD/Blu-ray/CDs. My long question is about Media Mail: the official USPS notice (Section 170) does not specifically reference that items must be for educational and research purposes, but some of the supplemental information does. eBay does allow to print labels via media mail, and it is often the cheapest option. eBay is also littered with listings charging $4.63 for shipping which is the current lowest Media Mail price. So far I have had several successful sales but I know that any item could be due for inspection. Is there any way to make the shipping inspection proof or do you have any experience in this? I have a couple bulk lots that could go at any time, and they are quite heavy and I would hate for such a large sale to be at risk, so I will probably just ship standard in that case!

I guess it would be a similar situation as the person who had a garage sale guy who just gave away everything to unload it. I enjoy your TH-cam channel.

    Justin, one thing I’m a bit confused about is international buyers with forwarding addresses. Even if you only want to participate in EBay’s International shipping program, these sales automatically go through because the international buyer has a US address. The only way I even know it is an international buyer is because I get charged an international buyer fee whereas that charge is waived under EBay’s program. I guess my question is does it even really matter? I’m only on the hook to get it to the US address. How does lost, damaged, returns, etc. get dealt with after it is forwarded on? Thanks for all you do for us! Kathy

    Hi Justin - Still new at selling, and think I may need to adjust my expectations. If an item has no views or watchers after only a few weeks, I instantly start worrying and jump to promote it or drop the price without really evaluating if it’s just a dud item, if I may have priced it a little too high, or if I just need to be patient. Do you have a schedule - even if it’s a loose schedule - of when you start to adjust pricing, or ultimately give up on an item and pull it from your store? Thanks for your insight!

    Quick question/your thoughts please Justin... I have an eBay store, and have registered as self-employed with the authorities for tax etc.
    Should I/do I have to, register as a business seller on eBay?
    What are the advantages/disadvantages?
    Cheers

    I recall you saying in a previous video Flipwise was being tested for use in UK/other countries. Is it now UK ready and, if not, do you still need testers? My wife and I have sourced a great starter stock and are at the point of creating a spreadsheet or using Flipwise if ready? We’re also happy to test if you still need testers?

    At 16:40, you speak of not worrying about tax when you referenced the Payment summary. But, if you click on “see more details” at the bottom, that takes you to a Transactions summery screen and, if you then click on “View” for the item, you see the Fee details, which break out a different tax amount that only the seller pays - which is based on sales tax in their region. Granted, this *might* be specific to Canada. I don’t know. But, even though this amount is included in the Transaction Fees on the screen you were looking at, it may be important to isolate that amount at tax time. Being new at this, I actually don’t know. But perhaps something for people to check with their accountant as to whether or not that’s important to separate out.

    Justin, I have just run into trouble this week with not being able to send an offer to buyers when I am replying to messages from them. I have nearly all of my listings as Buy It Now and have offers sent automatically. I believe in the past when I received a message from a buyer, i had the option to send them an offer. That option has disappeared. I've poked around in the eBay Q & A and have not found a good resolution. They may have made some changes. You supposedly can send offers on iOS, but I have an Android. Do you have any answer? Thanks.

    Hi Justin, thanks for all the information you provide. Quick question regarding flipwise. Does it flag an item that drops off eBay (as all TH-camrs talk about) when they purge the system? At the moment, in my excel stock management system I have a formula to highlight if my spreadsheet and eBay does not match.

    • @justinresells
      @justinresells  23 วันที่ผ่านมา

      it does not currently flag the items, but you can easily see if there are discrepancies between the total number of listings managed by Flipwise and what eBay reports. we do plan on notifying you if an item managed by Flipwise is no longer on eBay for this very reason.

    Are there services you can call for simple ebay/tech issues help? I have about 25 listings just made my first two sales and its been such a disaster. I'm sad I have to shut it all down somehow because I can't get my labels to print properly. @bobbiellison4315 23 วันที่ผ่านมา

      So far I've noticed no difference between the price when printed in ebay vs printed on USPS website. When buying through the USPS site, they give you commercial pricing. This is for ground advantage under one pound. I don't know about heavier items and other services. Labels printed AT the post office will cost more.

    Does Flipwise gather every single fee from an item, such as resisting fees, promotional fees, etc.?Will I be able to generate a pdf or printout for my tax man easily at the end of a year? Or can my taxman access my Flipwise account and get it himself?

    Justin do you ever get people that message you and ask if you will take a certain dollar anount as an offer. I get this quite often even though i have best offer on and they can send an offer to me directly. I block these people because I get paranoid. I always click on someone's account that messages me and its weird that someone has been on ebay for years and doesn't know about sending offers correctly. Anytime i get a bad vibe i just block, I dont want to deal with bs back and forth. Im not trying to be mean but to me its not worth the potential bad buyer.

    I have an odd question. I am a new reseller, but I find it every time I use eBay research active listings and sold listings I keep getting messages from the sellers and eBay sending me offers to buy those items that I have looked at that are active. Does this happen to everyone every time or am I using the search incorrectly?

    • @kimchoi0613
      @kimchoi0613 24 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      That happens to me too, it’s normal. You are not doing anything wrong, eBay are just trying to sell that item to anyone who shows interest in it. It’s annoying, but I figure it happens to others who click on my listings too and hopefully one of them will buy my item.
