  • Join former Algonquin Park Naturalist, author, and photographer Michael Runtz for a virtual wolf howl in Algonquin Park in Ontario, Canada.
Michael Runtz was recently in Algonquin Provincial Park searching for Eastern Wolves (Algonquin Wolves) and filmed his experience. Join Michael for his virtual wolf howling excursion and discover more about these fascinating mammals that are a Species At Risk in Ontario and Canada. Michael Runtz has traditionally led wolf howling excursions from the Achray Campground in Algonquin Park during August. Or visitors can join the popular Algonquin Park Public Wolf Howl program when wolves and weather permit.

My grandmothers house is in a pretty, modern willage with aroud 60 houses spread along the road and on the sides for no more than 2 km. It is surrounded by thicc forest, there were no wolves after war but later they returned. I remember as a kid, a decade after war my uncle made a small weekend cottage, its beautiful just like in movies. Its located aproximatelly 300 meters away from grandmothers house uphil and cottage oversees entire willage and mountains in the back, its simply stunning. I was able to chill there, call my friends to spend nights and so on. Behind the cottage, that continues uphil, around 100 meters it starts very thick forest and goes for miles. Even then as a teenager,,altough kinda scared i enjoyed spending nights alone there with open window on the upper floor, even freezing in bed just to listen to the wolves howling. It still gives me goosebumps after all these years.
