Tomato and potato plants can be grafted and produce both parts, though not as great as a single plant, of course. This is because they're both types of the nightshade family of plants. So Tatos are probably one of the more plausible Fallout plants.

You can actually make "coffee" from roasted dandelion roots and was used as a coffee substitute in world War 2 thought it was mainly used as a light tea. And coffee with chicory is also as popular as it is today becuase the chicory plant is a bitter plant that was used to cut real coffee and not ruin flavor quality. It was used primarily around the 1840s when New Orleans Port was cut off and they used the coffee mix to extend what little supply they had. Thats why you can still get it in stores under the famous "Cafe du Monde" name to this day.

16:06 the “rash” coffee containers like this refer to in real life is usually caused by a “niacin flush”, which is essentially an extreme response to high amounts of niacin found in many caffeine products with artificial components in them that causes your skin to turn red and feel hot for a while as your blood flow near the surface of the skin is greatly increased for a small amount of time. The same kind of warning is found on things like 5 hour energy bottles irl, but they don’t tell you to stop drinking it if it happens. Many caffeine/coffee concentrates would have similar warnings about rashes before niacin flushes were fully understood as a mostly harmless and temporary phenomena.

One funny thing about niacin flushes is that Scientology-related organizations once, no fooling, took advantage of the double meaning of "flush" (and the lack of knowledge of what a "niacin flush" did to the body) to sell large doses of niacin as a quack "cure" for radiation poisoning. This was one of a great many shifty schemes built around the same Cold-War fear of total nuclear war that inspired _Fallout._ No idea if that in particular contributed to the Hubologists as a concept.

Why not also a revolution in food preservatives, in room-temperature superconductors for power storage, etc. The setting's issue is squaring it with wartime shortages.

Wait, wait, wait. Hold up. As someone that grew up in Pennsylvania and knows, I have to ask: is it clear birch beer or the other kind (either root beer-esque in appearance or the red cream-like soda from Pennsylvania Dutch soda company). I ask this because I wish to spread the good word of clear birch beer. It was actually the first kind I had as a kid and loved it only to find out it seems to be the rarest kind around and not many people knowing about it. It burns almost like liquor or ginger beer going down, but it's still sweet. It's magical.

The reason why tobacco is used in place of coffee is because the plant can be very productive in very harsh conditions and it can have a similar effect to real coffee. The reduced agility is not common with real coffee but it is common with nicotine. The majority of other things that it does are accurate from a physiological perspective some of those effects are not actually solving the issues but temporarily suppressing the negative effects or making you ignore them. As for the effects on water requirements from both nicotine and caffeine they act like a fairly powerful way to drop water or even as a minor laxative.

What makes you go out there to craft the Teas in 76 is the genius way they made the map and ressources spawn
Most flowers and plants can only be found in their specific biomes, meaning 3 teas that look the same, are the same, they just need ingredients from another part of the map
Meaning you are most likely to craft things wherever your C.A.M.P is located, or near it
Living in the swamp, one will never find cranberries or Soot-flowers, and therefore need to craft different biome based recipe to make up for it
Example: the multitude of different antibiotics and healing salves recipes are named based on the biome the ingredients can be found in

That "Company tea" is very similar to Irish drink "Hot Todd". Traditional Hot Todd is made from mixing brewed tea, whiskey, sugar or honey and lemon. However there are different types of this drink like: tea, whiskey, milk and sugar. So in Fallout instead of milk they used cream, and instead of sugar or honey - nuka-cola, which is basically a liquefied sugar.

first thing that comes to mind with the company tea: whiskey and cream lights up a spark in my brain linking to baileys, so the better thing to search would be baileys, coke and ... whatever the labrador tea would be irl. apparently baileys, due to it being dairy-based, doesn't really work well with coke though? rather, coffee or chocolate, or smooth spirits. apparently the main reason why it's a bad idea to mix the two is because of coke's acidity, because the cream curdles. so maybe nuka cola is less acidic, so maybe coke isn't the best idea - cola is still an enjoyed choice with baileys, but just a different cola than coke.
but yeah no clue what the tea would be, seems british borne though.

From the way it works in Fallout it is clearly not being used properly and ingested not applied like say a lotion. Sap is nice if you use it right, otherwise you're going to have a rather "fun" time, especially for most trees that aren't maple thanks to water content between each type of tree xD Also honey is the most common sugar substitute, tho...it's still sugar just in a more raw form so makes sense.

Potatoes and tomatoes are actually closely related plants. You can purchase tomato-potato plants (where the two have been grafted together to produce tomatoes above ground and tomatoes below ground) from numerous nurseries - Michigan Bulb Co. in the US comes to mind. Considering the food crisis in prewar America, it would make sense for the tomato-potato plants to have gained in popularity, since they can produce two crops for in a single garden space. Thus, when the bombs hit, the mutation could have simply fused the grafts, making the plant evolve into the tato we all know and love.

If I was hanging around Vault 76 the plants that I can get and eat are going to be somewhat different to the plants I can get and eat at The Top of The World.
