I get though that he feels it's important so I'm still here even when I disagree, because it's important I listen to people who disagree with me who are operating I good faith. But old Bill didn't have an agenda beyond turning the mirror on the absurd and he was quick with the wit. The constant awkward pauses as the audience realises they're supposed to clap now during parts of his monologue I'd a bit cringe for me. My only critique for John is his style of rumour.. I'd prefer if it matured a bit.
AHahaha look at these people commenting under you. Haha indeed, John Oliver is much better 'informed'. Bill Maher is much more thoughtful. John Oliver simply regurgitates what he's been told to tell others in a delightful British accent. Bill Maher gets informed, processes it, and then shares his own thoughts. But I'm glad to see those who have been informed stick to those who are merely informed as well.
I'm sorry, but what's the debate? That it's okay for Palestinians to shoot 4000 missiles into Israel and that Israel has no right to stop the rockets from being launched because Hamas mixed their military industrial complex with its public housing units? Here's a secret. John Oliver may have rescinced his UK citizenship, but he was still raised in a country that hates Israel.

Wow, is sanity returning? The Democrats have let this woke rubbish go on far too long. This guy is a hopeful sign they’re returning to what made them a party worth voting for.
The way they use the phrase is not at all what it means in the black community where it originated. The sooner this becomes unpopular with the right-wing the faster it will go away.
Wow, you have no idea of what ‘woke’ means.
What exactly has been "woke" about the Democrat party? Pushing conservative healthcare ideas and perpetuating neoconservative foreign policy goals?
Would love to hear what progressive policies have been put in place by these "woke" democrats.
@jon pork you're kidding right?
@jon pork , gullible? Hardly.
I would love to see a debate between John Oliver and Bill Maher on the Israel vs Palestine discussion. Genuinely would love to see a well informed debate between these two giants!
@grandmasterchang Agreed, Bill doesn't strike me as that well-informed these days.
Bill is no longer as sharp as he used to be..it wouldn't be fair. People can only be compared at the height of their talents.
I still love Bill but he's starting to really force an agenda down people's throats.
Agree . It is always more informative when two sides debate up against one another.
Forces both sides to deliver their best and clearest arguments- leaving the dogma out of it.
I hope he is the future. He’s got a great heart, and he doesn’t fall into woke BS, he won’t use “Latinx” or call women “people who menstruate” or hate on Israel, I don’t see him hating hating hating like how AOC does. Thank you, Ritchie and Bill!

Future President
Why does anyone care if he's the "first Afro-Latino, LGBTQ Member of Congress"?
He seems like he has a few interesting ideas and has an interesting personal backstory - that should be enough.
Because people (Americans) are obsessed with identity and being 'first' at something.
Because racism sells.
Bill Maher cares since he basically has a show talking about gender and race issues and about how his ideologies are better then anyone else's.
I agree yes it shouldn't matter, but at the very same time knowing of someone who comes from your cultural/racial background, and that they made it to a esteemed position in our society, that it gives younger and aspiring people more confidence that they too can succeed. So there is a benefit, we all need people to look up to, and it is nice to see someone who looks like you at least occasionally in higher positions, though your right, it shouldn't matter.

Over $3.5 billion of our tax $ annually to Israel!!!. Almost &10 million daily. How many schools and bridges could we build for that?
I think it is intentional, 'reform the police' is extremely easy to ignore. 'Defund the police' gets your attention though, and I imagine to a topic that most *want* to ignore, you have to do what you have to do to grab attention.
"Defund the Police" is the perfect GOP talking point.

Indeed, since Hamas started shooting rockets, Israel had to retaliate, and mostly tried to avoide civilian casualties. But, Israel's prime minister, who if fighting for his political and personal life (on trial in 3 court corruption cases), is fanning the flames between Jews and Arabs within Israel so a crisis might prevent the establishment of a new coalition without him.
And, Netanyahu (Israel's PM) and the Hamas are living in symbiotic relationship for 26 years now. Every time they help each other.
