Younger obese & dark skinned people also tend to be more Vitamin D deficient. When fat people go outside and try to exercise, they get attacked & harassed. Also, all those starvation diets that don't work tend to make you both fatter and malnourished. People with dark skin tend to absorb less Vitamin D from the sun, which is why northerners have fair skin .

as a Floridian, I have to wonder what the fuck Bill is talking about
yes, DeSantis gave priority to seniors; but he also gave preferential treatment to wealthier senior communities that happened to be home to major Republican donors
it was good that he allowed Publix to become a major vaccination center -- but why didn't he give that same treatment to Wal-Mart or Winn-Dixie? Is it because Publix donated to him more than the other major super markets?
also, the beach alone is not the problem -- it's when thousands of drunken assholes are crammed shoulder-to-shoulder that it becomes a problem
DeSantis signed executive orders making it ILLEGAL for any county or city government to enforce any health & safety mandates; he sent a SWAT team to raid the home of a woman (and terrify her children) when her only "crime" was allegedly texting lawmakers that DeSantis was suppressing the true numbers of COVID deaths
it's easy to say DeSantis is "pro-science" when his predecessor was so anti-science that he could've been a villain on Captain Planet

He can let his guests be more the compensate for how he is, and tow more the party line. That's brilliant if that's what he's doing. I tend to love the one on one guest interviews before he goes to the panel. He should replace Larry King on CNN. He'd be perfect for that. They're like lost orphans without Larry King. However I was watching a little bit of an interview with Netanyahu, and I don't know the name of the journalist doing the interview and he was good. That's more "Sixty Minutes" style, Bill Maher would be great to replace Larry King, and actually even better because of his humor if wants to add any to the interviews. Bill Maher isn't always the funny guy, in everything he's done in his life. He's been invited to do plenty of very serious intellectual group discussions. I tend to put myself in different types of shoes, so now its as if an executive at CNN. Maybe he'd be a lot in Atlanta, Georgia, if that's still CNN headquarters. Lots of liberals. Plenty to feel at home, and the weather is pretty decent. Georgia is a beautiful state if out of the big cities, because even beautiful historical Savannah was having too many crime problems. Used to be considered an extremely desirable state to move to. There's something about Savannah that just fall in love with it immediately, but it's got The Old South type of creepy gothic something to it all, mainly because make it be that way for tourism, but also has the architectural beauty and style, and true class old school Old South gentry to it all. It's probably all liberal too for the most part, even if visually conservative. How not? It's Old South. It's gorgeous. That's why I used to take guests from Spain, because it's a very unknown original beautiful US historical city for Spaniards. They're usually surprised that anything like it exists. I repeatedly stayed at a B&B nearest to The Forrest Gump film bench and park. As if meant to be since the first time. The ghosts there love me. Are helpful and calm, very at peace when I'm there. Know by now that always have to mentally go there with my stuff. 🙃 Probably very eternally trademarked. Understand that? I'd think so.

The sheep, especially the left who still trust main stream media, will be hard to convince that they have all been tricked. It is more likely that the population will separate reality in order to avoid facing that fact. The virus is real, the narrative is a hoax. Free thinkers have known this since at least June of last year when CDC data started rolling in. The question: why has the medical system played along? I know that big tech has censored doctors/specialists who challenged the narrative, but why don't medical workers inform their own patients first hand???A partial answer: some of the medical workers, especially those who worship the 'authority' or 'authoritative' position, have themselves, been lulled into a lie. Sad. Meanwhile, China, the origin of the virus, had its people back to work and school April of last year. They were the only major nation to grow their GDP last year. Think upon this these facts.

And in fact, a Stanford study suggests we have over estimated the obesity number by 30 million as BMI was never meant to measure a populations obesity. The guy who came up with it 100+ years ago warned about his formula being used that way. Everyone knows it is just as much garbage as daylight savings time but we never get rid of our well intentioned garbage. That would take political will from our spinless politicians.
I more think it is the fact that people don't move as much as they used to and eat too much. I mean I've watched salarymen in Japan work 12 hour days only to go and buy fried fast food and drink beer EVERY night. But the portions are smaller and they are moving more than your average Westerner. Of course that lifestyle where they then sleep in cubbyholes in hotels instead of going home to their family leads to Japan having an epidemic of suicide.

I do understand that might be difficult in city landscape but in more rural or suburban regions theres no excuse. Obesity is not caused by simply crappy food but by the simple fact your body has more energy reserved than it uses.
Part of why everyone gets fat without noticing in the US is because the obesity problem is hushed about. Our newspapers remind people to exercise at least once a week. A lot of the development should be in schools where kids should be encouraged to exercise more. Not just buffing up the best sports kids in competitive sports, but healthy exercise lessons in general.

    • @stevyd
      @stevyd 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

It's not. Americans are constantly warned about being overweight, its repercussions, our diet, and our need for exercise. We are also warned about shaming, bullying, being rude to, and making jokes about overweight people. The major problem is many poorer people don't have decent health care and often eat badly because of poverty and/or family tradition. Many people live in "Food Deserts", usually poorer areas where only small markets with a very limited healthy food choice exist. These markets usually carry few fresh fruits and vegetables if any, but plenty of snacks, overly processed foods, along with lots of sugary drinks. American Covid deaths will have mostly affected the overweight, the middle age to older folks, the poor, and/or a combination of all these.

    • @Meitti

Biggest load of horseshit. Bill doesn't seem to understand and repeats the right wing ignorance, that somehow Fauci and others were "wrong" in suggesting certain precautions early on in the pandemic. How about I put in this way...WHEN A MYSTERY NOVEL VIRUS STARTS SPREADING THROUGH THE WORLD KILLING HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE, IT'S A GOOD IDEA TO TAKE PRECAUTIONS BASED ON HISTORICAL KNOWLEDGE OF PREVIOUS SIMILAR PANDEMICS. In other words, when you don't have enough information (given that you can't because it's a new virus) you proceed with caution and use past experience to suggest precautions. This doesn't make you "wrong" if later you learn more about a virus and find that those precautions weren't needed.
Republicans and Bill aren't clairvoyant. They were equally wrong about a lot of stuff about the pandemic and they suffered for it. So many didn't want to wear masks and still don't and they are still dying right and left because of it and I say, good riddance.
Oh and also, it really grates on my nerves to hear DeSantis, who is equally as criminal in his response to the pandemic as Cuomo, being praised for his covid response. I think he's actually much worse because while Cuomo was instituting logical response in most senses, DeSantis was trying to open up the economy carelessly. Then he was fudging the covid numbers to make it seem like things were better than reality. But DeSantis wasn't just fudging nursing home numbers, he was fudging ALL the covid numbers.

Actually Maher used a badly designed poll to make his point. "Somebody with covid" can be interpreted in a number of ways.
It's perfectly possible that democrats are just more likely to use the scientifically correct interpretation, which is "people who are SICK, caused by the sars-cov-2 virus" of which a large percentage do get hospitalized, while republicans might be interpreting it as "people infected with sars-cov-2", most of whom will be fine and don't need hospitalization.
HUGE difference between these two interpretations.

Where has the sage Maher been since February of last year while the media relentlessly peddled disinformation 24/7? Where has the CDC and DOH been with healthy lifestyle guidance that follows physician recommendations? Michelle Obama's campaign failed massively in every aspect because it was all for show and didn't acknowledge science, nor the facts, nor people making choices, like all leftist efforts. Our public health response to COVID has been disastrous. It infuriates me that public health officials put all our eggs in the "hunker down and wait for the vaccine" basket. Front line doctors like me who bolstered their patient's innate immune systems with Vitamin D & Vitamin C, encouraged people to get out in nature and move around, turned to old, inexpensive, safe medications like ivermectin and coped with unprecedented anxiety, depression and suicidality in our patients are ostracized and publicly shamed.

How is it that they wayyyyyyy overcompensated on the disinfection side and didn't even try on the nutritional side? Food has to be purchased all of the time. Mask, glove, hat, disinfectant, hand held sanitizer, bleach and even toilet paper manufacturers kicked ass during this pandemic. Because little money can't compete with big money advertisers like Micky D's and Applebees. Then to top EVERYTHING OFF New Jersey's governor shuts down gyms, yoga studios, houses of worship...where stress could have been alleviated, fitness maintained and weight controlled.....INSANE!!!! Many people in this country must take more personal responsibility for their health and well being. Diet and exercise, folks. Diet and exercise. I'm 70 years old and attribute my good health to diet and eating habits that keeps my cholesterol and blood sugar low and my weight within the recommended range for my height. I exercise by run/walking 2 miles per day, 6 days/week. It is not hard to do, but it does take some will power to live a healthy life.

    • @lisad2701

"run/walking 2 miles per day, 6 days/week" may not be hard for YOU, but for those of us with neurologic, neuromuscular or auto-immune disorders like rheumatoid arthritis, MS, etc. - it is extremely difficult at the least and impossible at the most. I stayed within the recommended weight range (5'4"/120 lbs.) my entire adult life. I became a vegetarian at age 13 and always ate healthily. It didn't prevent me from becoming electric wheelchair reliant by age 48 due to MS. So, get off you soapbox and realize that if you haven't been affected by bad genetics or environmental factors, you should consider yourself lucky and stop gloating.

@@lisad2701 I agree with BOTH of you! Far too many people in the US who *can* exercise, don’t. And they don’t make healthy food choices, either. Just look at the per capita consumption of soda and processed & fast food in this country. Some of the financial burden from the resulting health problems falls upon all of us, as taxpayers. Then there are others, like you and I, who despite having done the right things --eating healthy foods, staying slender, exercising whenever possible, avoiding destructive habits like smoking, drugs, & heavy drinking- *still* fall victim to genetics, accidents, and/or environmental assaults. And there goes our health, as well as our ability to get out and enjoy the exercise that used to be an important part of our lives. We all must realize that we don’t know another’s full story, so should be less quick to judge. A lesson I’m still working on myself.... obviously. 😉😊
I know it’s difficult to deal with the ‘victim-blaming/you must not have made healthy choices/just think good thoughts/the universe must want to teach you something’ clueless BS. Hang in there! ❤️

Doctors saying things that might be misleading to their patients because most patients reinterpret what their doctor is telling them, usually AS the doctors is speaking. The number of times I have heard a patient talking to their accompanying person within moments of talking to their attending physician, telling them the version of what the doctor said that they WANT to be true, rather than what they said.

Hi. I live in the U.K. and haven’t returned to the US since 1999. I’m not medical myself, even though my late Mom was a Nurse in the late 50’s to the mid 60’s in London. Good nutrition is important for recovery. I did notice the huge portion sizes over in the States. The U.K. has huge obesity problems to address as well. Eating too many of the wrong Foods. The lack of Exercise. Not spending enough time outside in the fresh air. Yet the U.K. has over prescribed too many medications as well. I was quite shocked at the price of a few Oranges at a Grocery Store in Arizona. It was explained to me at the time, it costs a lot of money to transport fruit across the US. Part of the problem for the US , was the year 1965. The start of mass production of processed food. That year was the turning point for the US. People ate far healthier back in the 1950’s and early 60’s. Even in 1969’ 40% of American Students walked or biked to School. The food in their School Lunch Boxes would have been far healthier.
