  • Sitcom starring David Roper and Peter Sallis. Charlie Fisher is an insurance salesman - young, cheerful, optimistic, and starting a new job in a northern town. For some reason - perhaps because of his air of invincible optimism - Charlie is the sort of person other people depend on, from the little old lady who becomes his landlady, to his gloomy pessimist of a boss Arthur Simister, whose wife is so vague she can't even remember his name. Charlie's dependability leads him into being called on to do anything, and everything, going.
This episode: "Do Sit Down, Mrs Foster" - Mrs Foster comes to the offices to claim her money from a surrendered policy, and refuses to move from Mr Simister's chair until she gets all she paid in. This causes some chaos, which Charlie has to sort out in his own inimitable way.

Well, well. Norman Clegg forsaking lino rolls for insurance. What would Compo and Foggy think? I was nine at the time, but have only just come across this!

A treasure trove of ex Coronation Street writers, producers and directors were involved in the making of this Granada production. Plus, Granada's MD since their early years Derek Hilton providing the theme music 🎶. A real knit crew this seems.

A real treasure trove of ex-Coronation Street directors, writers and producers involved in the making of this Granada production. Plus the dependable Granada stalwart Derek Hilton providing the music. A close-knit team it seems.

Wonderful wonderful! We all know that it can be difficult to get insurance companies to come up with the money, but Mrs. Foster (Avis Bunnage) really gives the staff push to the limit. I so enjoyed this sitcom about office life with its many funny moments and the variety of personalities.

They could have picked up each side of her chair and carried her out of that office or called the police to evict her. Daft letting her daughter bring food and daft not grabbing all the things and taking them from her, but then there wouldn't be a story to entertain us if they did!
