- How did those pictures of pretty nudes get into the vicar's collection? Arthur Lowe stars as a stressed and hounded cleric who is at odds with his congregation. Adapted by playwright Ben Travers from his original 1943 Aldwych farce, this BBC version also stars Frank Thornton (Are You Being Served?) and Terrance Alexander (Bergerac)

First time I have ever seen this, a real good old theatrical farce.

I would have guessed BBC 2. Wasn't the 9 o'clock News on BBC 1?
@@63mckenzie ... No, it aired on BBC1 Saturday 31st October 1970 at 9.00pm. It was one of seven stage farces written by Ben Travers and shown Saturday nights on BBC1 at 9.00pm between 19th September and 31st October 1970.
I never heard about this until now, having been born in 1970. Captain Mainwaring in Holy Orders, along with Charlie Hungerford and Captain Stephen Peacock of Mersa Matruh and Grace Brothers fame!
Arthur Lowe was also in Bless me Father, he played a priest. Aired 1978
And Terrence Alexander from the original Forsyth Saga - also Bergerac

This would never have the legs for a series, but it made for a really funny & diverting farce. The entire cast shone!

Surprised to see Arthur in a swim suit. The story goes he had a clause in his Dads Army contract that he would not have to take off his trousers. 😊
