My late Godmother was a great fan of this series that finished with the revelation " An Earl of Basket that was made in Hong Kong". Good to see an episode again after 50 years - some first rate actors making the best of a very "average" script. By the standards of 1970's ITV comedy, it's aged quite reasonably. ☺
Gosh you've come up trumps with this one it's good to see stuff like this that's not your everyday viewing plenty of famous people in it and Arthur Lowe playing his brother like in dads army great stuff Thanks for sharing 😁👍
Though, unlike the BBC in Dad's Army, they didn't try to show Arthur Lowe acting against himself! That required both clever trick photography and good acting. ♥
@@Bartok_J It was excellent ! And the brother was a more interesting character & so well-played. Showed that A L was more capable as an actor than we had been shown.
I WOULD REALLY LIKE TO WATCH "BLESS ME FATHER," STARRING ARTHUR LOWE AND "DAD'S ARMY," I WILL HAVE TO SEARCH FOR THEM. PLUS ANYTHING ELSE THAT ARTHUR LOWE WAS IN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Not necessarily. The right of patronage or advowson, could be with the local gentry, a religious charity, or the local Bishop among others. The ancient difference between Vicar or Rector lay with the right to receive tithes. Now there is no practical difference between the two.
I wish they'd bring all these sitcoms back to mainstream television
Could watch Arthur Lowe all day, an absolute master
RIGHT ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
😄😂 absolutely brilliant..love Arthur Lowe... thank you 💞
i enjoyed that, love coming across these treats, thanks for sharing
Great stuff. Love Arthur Lowe.

Loved it more please ❤
Ken Jones was one of my favourite comedic actors loved him in The Squirrels. Tku for uploading these gems.
Eric Chapple's first scripted series....and I agree, Ken Jones, Alan David and Bernard Hepton were the perfect cast
Wonderful 👍🇬🇧

I really liked this. Don't recall having seen it before. I remember his brother in Dad's Army too! I think he was fond of the bottle!!

Not seen this before but much enjoyed thank you.
Another classic example of Arthur's ability to play two people in one scene
Thanks I love all this "Old Stuff." I haven't seen this for so long.
Fantastic.
Many thanks for sharing
This was great - I had no idea there was such a rich trove of clerical comedy 👌
Thanks soʻoooo much 😊😊😊
More please 🙏 😢 😭
Have you got the whole series mate?
I’ve been waiting to see an episode of this turn up online for ages so thank you so much for this! Any chance of any others being uploaded too?
Redfus reminded me of Potter, in which too that was his first name
Potter, BRILLIANT series!!!
Reminds me of Dad´s Army episode with twin brother.
And Anthony Sharp almost says 'Stupid Boy' to his nephew !

Good comedy
yes always wanted to see this series. can you post them all ???
Mr Rumbold as the out going vicar? Also Arthur Lowe playing his brother as in a (later) episode of Dads Army.
Mr Rumbold in Are you being served? was played by actor Nicholas Smith, the Rev Pilkinton-Smythe was played by Norman Scase.
Patricia Hayes an acquired taste ……what I never acquired
Not really suited to the role - her best work was as the char lady in Hancock and Men from the Ministry .
The house was on Saddleworth moor near Oldham it was called Ashway gap.
I enjoyed that, and just read there's a couple of series. I don't remember repeats of this (I was born the year this episode was shown).
Have you by any chance got another episode hiding somewhere , pretty please ?😊
6:06: It's weird hearing 'Mainwaring' saying Jones' line "Don't panic'"
More pretty please 🙏
Never heard of it
You hsve now.
Rev Smock married Bet Lynch of The Rovers in Corrie
... Maybe some FATHER TED Prop's in there, Like that Couch
If a vicar is selected by the local lord, isn't that a rector?

@@gavinwatson6195 Religious charity, you mean like a second-hand shop?
if u cld bung the whole series i wld deffo sbscribe👍
Ken Jones the Wackers and Ives in porridge . And I recall he was in Jesus of Nazareth great cast .
Not to forget him as Mr Norris in "Dangerous Davies: The Last Detective" with Bernard Cribbins.
Ken played the Headmaster in the film Melody.
Er…. Yes.
The days when ITV could make a comedy and failed since.
6:35 sack whoever caused that moving shadow
A bit harsh
Yes, but they didn't have VCRs with pause buttons in those days!
Oo-errr
Load of old shit that was.
Your idea of great comedy must be Jimmy Carr cracking jokes about the Holocaust.
