Y: The Last Man needs a second chance to have a good and faithful adaptation again. It could be an adult animated series like Invincible or some sorts this time around. The comic is really good imo.

Man, I just love how this show got so many different people seething. On one hand, anti-SJWs are complaining about how this show is too woke. Been imagining this as live action since 2005 when I started reading it. Not sure about the cinematography but casting looks on point. One of the best comics ever.
That's a big statement. Y was might have been loved by Critics, but it was sh!t tier for what Vertigo was doing at the time. Much rather see 100 Bullets than any Brian K vaughan trash.
This is one of those very few comic books where you don't really need to change anything to make for a great adaptation. If they don't fuck this up magistrally, it's going to be one of the best TV shows in recent times.
It's basically a Twitter wet dream. All men die - women most affected. By the way Hollywood's been going, I am not getting my hopes up. Even with the perfect premise they'll probably find a way to mess it up. Maybe even make the main character the bad guy.
@@teddyharvester it's not just the premise, really. The comic books have a pretty cinematographic story. Like, the blandest possible adaptation that still follows the comics closely will still have stellar narrative. It has a solid 5 arcs full of intriguing characters and a solid ending. It never ceases to amaze the reader with how well it explores the premise and its impacts on society.
One of the greatest comic books of all time. I binge read the entire series over a week, and it blew me away. A real page turner, with a couple of very touching moments.
I hope they still put the focus on Yorick in this series. He got a good character development in the comic. Idk man tv series as a format tends to sporadically jump between way too many characters and subplots sometimes.

Pretty accurate to be honest, when power lines are downed in winter storms on Christmas Day, it will be a man reconnecting them so people can cook their turkey. The biggest problem is that when population halves suddenly like this there is overcapacity of everything and very little knowledge how to run all those things. Whole power network is literally network and basically whole thing goes down if one part fails. Civilization can't run power network size like that with half of the population. They would have to reboot whole system and start from small and locally. Collecting experts should be major priority for new government. The bright side of this. Population of Earth would be half what it is now and we could reduce footprint of humanity a lot from Earth. Biggest issue would be how to get humans propagate again. Sure we have technology for that but setting that technology for large scale use would be major problem. Every year we couldn't have children would make age pyramid in future even bigger problem. Without men we would need something like 1.1 children per women to stabilize world's population.
This looks like it'll do a good job of showing when things fall apart, women like men will have a whole range of responses, instead of either being helpless or superwomen. Plus this Yorick already seems more likeable, although they don't give us much to go on. I got so frustrated with comic Yorick stupidly putting himself in danger so he could rant at people. I'm hoping for a more stealthy Yorick. :)
I kinda agree about comic Yorick. He was kinda... spoiled. The comic book was still great, but I can't help feel that Yorick, while not bad, was not the best possible version the character could've become.
I always saw the comic York as being treated like so many women characters previously. Less developed and there to be put into danger. I assumed it was intentional from the start. :)

Some groups going as far as doing everything in their power to destroy anything with a y-chromosome that survived the 'plague'. This included destroying all the sperm banks they could find. Which is a bad idea since the 'plague' targeted anything with a y-chromosome, this included y-chromosome bearing spermatozoa. That would leave the x-bearing spermatozoa within the sperm samples and would have led to the humans being able to continue producing females until cloning became more prevalent. However we do have plenty of examples that all women groups becoming fragmented and descending into chaos. The few all-women companies that have existed in the world have all failed, not because of external factors like other companies doing their best to ruin them, but because of internal strife. The truth of the matter is that when asked, most women prefer to work with men than women. Women for some reason, whether it's biological or sociological, naturally see other women as competition in all things, to the point of actively destroying the groups they work in. Don't try and say that in a survival situation that if all the men on the Earth died that the women would create a utopia, you know it would be awful, dirty, violent. There are lots of shows with a strong political plot-line , they do alright , this isn't a lousy show - it just has a story-line that a lot of men are uncomfortable with , there are scenes that are possibly too close to comfort for some men - i.e. scenes depicting powerful women, scenes that hint at the fact that maybe without males - females wouldn't run around without a clue how to survive, i'm a hetero male - i'm starting to feel that i identify myself as a severely feminist lesbian or a heterosexual gay man - i wish i was gay or bi - i've found that they're the best people,i've never been hurt,mugged,beaten up by a gay man (to the best of my knowledge) & my female family & friends don't worry about being attacked by gay men - i've been to gay bars - they're much more chilled out & you feel safer & have more fun - i wish there was a site for people like me to meet gay men & women for simple friendship, i don't want a gay mate as any kind of a statement or to be some kind of wanker - i just reckon i'd get on well , sorry to go off topic - think i was talking about a monkey or something - i'm a bit mashed - that's it - i was talking about a lesbian monkey looking for estogen & something about a helicopter

it's actually more dramatic mixed with some comedic moments, there weren't that many "horror" moments in the comic (besides the initial "all the men suddenly dying from a worldwide from an unknown virus" thing)
I think it's 2nd book out of ten when Yorrick says something like "Would you believe that for a first few hours I was dumb enough to think that being last man on the Earth would be fun?"
After reading the source material I have absolutely no clue how they could have messed this show up so badly that it got cancelled halfway through season 1
@JustaDummy simple too many stories. We barely saw Yorick and 355. Most of the screen time was for Hero and her mom. And her mom's mini game of thrones storyline was pointless by the end. So that means they waste more than half the season on a pointless story. I mean Yorick and 355 didn't leave the city till mid season. The show had so much potential. 🤦♂️
This does look like it follows the characters. Yorick doesn't look like Yorick but it has the basics. And Hero's husband's death seems straight out of the comics too.

Funny the comic being good is why I didn't even pay attention to it when production was announced. I'd rather retain the decent art then have it be sullied but reinterpretations. Hope you didn't enjoy it since it was cancelled and if you did I'm sorry, sucks when a show you like gets cancelled.
I hope it's good. The Tone of Voice seems a little darker than the comics, which was more upbeat/jolly even though the issues were dark. Let's hope they let the witness come through. Also strange seeing the colour so desaturated when the comics were vibrant, but that's just an observation and not a critisim.
Not sure what they'll do on FX/hulu but in the original comic the premise was that Yorick was searching for his missing girlfriend. So he's spoken for.

The last comic I read while travelling to my office in the metro. I finished it on the last day I travelled to an office I may never be in again. This show is making me remember those times which are not so distant but still seem like ages ago.
One can dream. Y looks faithful to the source, but the visuals are much easier to reproduce than Saga's would be. Hope they use the same casting people if they ever try to.

I appreciated they shown it wouldn't be a utopia but dystopian chaos for a dying species. In the comic one women recounted her grandmother telling her how much better it would be if there were only women in charge and she noted nothing had actually changed, nor was there any endevour to make things just.
I felt a great disturbance in the force, as if a million screw top lids suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly inoperable. I fear something terrible has happened.

Reminds me of that Justice League episode, with the rogue Amazonian warrior releasing a toxin that'd kill all men. That was a really cool episode. Justice League was a really cool animation. Bring back DC Animated Universe! And I'm done.
The series is unwatchable. I was excited for this comic finally being made into a series, but the execution is so poor that I had to stop watching it after 4 episodes. They removed the humanity from the source material. The characters have been made into caricatures. Yorick , and the other characters, bare no resemblance to the comic book characters. They have removed the nuanced characters, and replaced them with hard drawn caricatures. They made Yorick a huge beta-male, 355 is overly angry, and Dr Mann is a nutjob for some reason. And don't even get me started on the gender politics...somehow in a world without males, they still found a way to talk about how much men suck. They also found a way to work partisan politics into a post apocalyptic world. If 911 taught us anything is that partisan politics disappear at least until the crisis is under control.

Been imagining this as live action since 2005 when I started reading it. Not sure about the cinematography but casting looks on point. One of the best comics ever.

This is one of those very few comic books where you don't really need to change anything to make for a great adaptation. If they don't fuck this up magistrally, it's going to be one of the best TV shows in recent times.

Like, the blandest possible adaptation that still follows the comics closely will still have stellar narrative. It has a solid 5 arcs full of intriguing characters and a solid ending. It never ceases to amaze the reader with how well it explores the premise and its impacts on society.
One of the greatest comic books of all time. I binge read the entire series over a week, and it blew me away. A real page turner, with a couple of very touching moments.
I hope they still put the focus on Yorick in this series. He got a good character development in the comic. Idk man tv series as a format tends to sporadically jump between way too many characters and subplots sometimes.

The biggest problem is that when population halves suddenly like this there is overcapacity of everything and very little knowledge how to run all those things. Whole power network is literally network and basically whole thing goes down if one part fails. Civilization can't run power network size like that with half of the population. They would have to reboot whole system and start from small and locally. Collecting experts should be major priority for new government.
The bright side of this. Population of Earth would be half what it is now and we could reduce footprint of humanity a lot from Earth. Biggest issue would be how to get humans propagate again. Sure we have technology for that but setting that technology for large scale use would be major problem. Every year we couldn't have children would make age pyramid in future even bigger problem. Without men we would need something like 1.1 children per women to stabilize world's population.
This looks like it'll do a good job of showing when things fall apart, women like men will have a whole range of responses, instead of either being helpless or superwomen. Plus this Yorick already seems more likeable, although they don't give us much to go on. I got so frustrated with comic Yorick stupidly putting himself in danger so he could rant at people. I'm hoping for a more stealthy Yorick. :)
I kinda agree about comic Yorick. He was kinda... spoiled. The comic book was still great, but I can't help feel that Yorick, while not bad, was not the best possible version the character could've become.
I always saw the comic York as being treated like so many women characters previously. Less developed and there to be put into danger. I assumed it was intentional from the start. :)

Some groups going as far as doing everything in their power to destroy anything with a y-chromosome that survived the 'plague'. This included destroying all the sperm banks they could find. Which is a bad idea since the 'plague' targeted anything with a y-chromosome, this included y-chromosome bearing spermatozoa. That would leave the x-bearing spermatozoa within the sperm samples and would have led to the humans being able to continue producing females until cloning became more prevalent.
However we do have plenty of examples that all women groups becoming fragmented and descending into chaos. The few all-women companies that have existed in the world have all failed, not because of external factors like other companies doing their best to ruin them, but because of internal strife. The truth of the matter is that when asked, most women prefer to work with men than women. Women for some reason, whether it's biological or sociological, naturally see other women as competition in all things, to the point of actively destroying the groups they work in. Don't try and say that in a survival situation that if all the men on the Earth died that the women would create a utopia, you know it would be awful, dirty, violent. Women are just a capable as men to commit violence, at times even more able.

There are lots of shows with a strong political plot-line , they do alright , this isn't a lousy show - it just has a story-line that a lot of men are uncomfortable with , there are scenes that are possibly too close to comfort for some men - i.e. scenes depicting powerful women, scenes that hint at the fact that maybe without males - females wouldn't run around without a clue how to survive, i'm a hetero male - i'm starting to feel that i identify myself as a severely feminist lesbian or a heterosexual gay man - i wish i was gay or bi - i've found that they're the best people,i've never been hurt,mugged,beaten up by a gay man (to the best of my knowledge) & my female family & friends don't worry about being attacked by gay men - i've been to gay bars - they're much more chilled out & you feel safer & have more fun - i wish there was a site for people like me to meet gay men & women for simple friendship, i don't want a gay mate as any kind of a statement or to be some kind of wanker - i just reckon i'd get on well , sorry to go off topic - think i was talking about a monkey or something - i'm a bit mashed - that's it - i was talking about a lesbian monkey looking for estogen & something about a helicopter

I think it's 2nd book out of ten when Yorrick says something like "Would you believe that for a first few hours I was dumb enough to think that being last man on the Earth would be fun?"
Really, only the first episode with all the males dying is straight horror.

@JustaDummy simple too many stories. We barely saw Yorick and 355. Most of the screen time was for Hero and her mom. And her mom's mini game of thrones storyline was pointless by the end. So that means they waste more than half the season on a pointless story. I mean Yorick and 355 didn't leave the city till mid season. The show had so much potential. 🤦♂️

I hope it's good. The Tone of Voice seems a little darker than the comics, which was more upbeat/jolly even though the issues were dark. Let's hope they let the witness come through. Also strange seeing the colour so desaturated when the comics were vibrant, but that's just an observation and not a critisim.

The series is unwatchable. I was excited for this comic finally being made into a series, but the execution is so poor that I had to stop watching it after 4 episodes. They removed the humanity from the source material. The characters have been made into caricatures. Yorick , and the other characters, bare no resemblance to the comic book characters. They have removed the nuanced characters, and replaced them with hard drawn caricatures. They made Yorick a huge beta-male, 355 is overly angry, and Dr Mann is a nutjob for some reason. And don't even get me started on the gender politics...somehow in a world without males, they still found a way to talk about how much men suck. They also found a way to work partisan politics into a post apocalyptic world. If 911 taught us anything is that partisan politics disappear at least until the crisis is under control.
So basically they merged present left-wing politics into a non political comic. Great. Batwoman 2.0

Sadly it didn't get a second season. It wasn't a bad show it just didn't get ANY promotion. No commercials, posters, promos, tv bumpers. You had to know it was there to know it was there
