I understand why they mute the comms, because thats the place everyone strategizes, but i dont think that its neccesary to block the entire screen, because you would need to watch all team member screens at the same time to understand the encounter and even then there will be a lot of chaos.
I think its because most of these teams have a "coach" that watches the other streams and informs them on what the other teams are trying and what fails or succeeds. So they black out the stream to prevent this. That's my guess. I'm not saying I like it kinda pointless to stream a raid when 90% of the time you aren't seeing the raid itself.
no you wouldnt have to watch the entire team, less than a minute after ATP unblocked their screen on witness fight, another team was already watching and calling out every single thing they did, everything they tried, everything they got wrong and everything they got right. literally less than 60 seconds before another top teams streamer was stream sniping live and calling out strats. stream sniping is bannable on twitch btw lol. just 1 person watching 1 other persons stream gained them a massive advantage as it gave them hours worth of ATPs legitimately learned info 1 5 minute attempt

About the muting comms and hiding screens: It makes sense why they do it and I support the fact that they're so competitive they want to get every little advantage they can get, however, if they're going to straight up full mute and completely hide the screen for hours, they might as well just not stream at all, heck, I think that might be more beneficial to them just because their PC doesn't have to handle the stream on top of the game and discord
I get it, and partially agree, but part of me wants to believe that because Parabellum didn't have a public stream going; that allowed them to focus more on the Raid itself than stressing about giving away nuggets of information to competitors. That's not to discredit the skill of any of the teams, but I think when you don't have to worry about other teams ever knowing you're in the race, that you can focus more on what's important.
Find it very weird for the D2 community to react like this when this has been the common norm for any other mmos in raid races, the only reason WoW streams their world race is because the top teams get heavily sponsored and paid to do so.
no rheres nothing to get stop trynna back up these loosers, bungie should bann muting comms and covering screens mext time, this is a time bungie wants us to enjoy and unite as a community, but some dweebs had to “have an advantage” this a competition to see whos best, get that 😸 shii outta here

I love love love the design of Verity. The visuals of the light and dark realms, the way you can see the dark realm creeping in at the edge of your screen at all times, and the chilling sight of your calcified fireteam and the whole concept of needing to save yourselves from your certain death.
Don't forget that during the Day 1 of the Last Wish, almost everyone was underlight compared to the mobs and bosses. So theoretically, if during Last Wish players were the right light level, the raid would've been completed much, much faster. This makes Salvation's Edge even crasier of a raid
the fact that bungie "gave away" 'final shapes' during verity is incredible when you realize the encounter is all about giving away your final shape for a new one.
You had me tearing up at the end when you made me realize I’ve been playing this game for 10 years and that massive chapter was coming to a close. Thank you for the incredible video and thank you destiny for all the memories

The point about hiding comms, buffs and screens. I think sweatcicle's point about redeem never hiding comms in their world firsts is valid. They just shared important info in discord. I dont think streamers should be ruining the fan experience when these are the biggest numbers they will get all year.
With the Tom Brady at the Super Bowl example, no he wouldn't broadcast his huddle, or show the play book, but they still show the game itself. There's a difference in cutting voices and bluring buffs and just completely blacking out your screen or showing just your face. Why even bother streaming at that point? Well, I know, money is why. Bungie themselves hyped up the day 1 as a community viewing experience, then most teams involved completely blacked out their entire screen. And in the end, it didn't even really matter as the team that won wasn't streaming and got the info anyway despite all the blacked out screens.
I heard Oneirophobia, The First Disciple and Keep of Voices motifs within the Witness theme. I wonder if the song contains parts from each final Raid boss or just these three(2 disciples and one of the firest themes in general)
I remember watching a bit of the race when it started, sleeping for work and waking up to see teams on 3rd encounter. Also that shot of our guardians looking at the traveler I so awesome.
im on the side of the muted coms and blacked out streams just really sucked. it was exciting at the beginning watching teams go through the encounters and talk to their teams but once that happened why stream anymore? if you really don't want people stream sniping your progress just dont stream, but its their job too and i get it. it just made it a terrible experience to watch for the last leg of it. but the idea that its a privilege they even streamed in the first place is a crazy message to send to your audience, esp the people that sub to them.
For some it ain't even their real job, it's just extra money since most competitive players in destiny don't have a viewerbase large enough to sustain themselves. Now, if you win and do something with it then you become as large as Gladd or Sweat are now after they won LW, if not, then you become like salt who didn't go that route. No shade at salt but this is just how it ended up working out.
Funny how you shared a clip of the Archimonde fight in regards to mechanics v. execution of raids. I was a Mythic raider in late WoD/early Legion, and I remember that fight kickin' my team's arse. I always thought it was weird/lame how when we did a new raid in WoW, the mechanics were already -known-, and we just had to learn when and where to stand while maintaining a near perfect rotation of our class abilities. Going from that playstyle to the Destiny raid scene was total whiplash, to be sure. I think I prefer Destiny raiding for that reason, as it feels much more rewarding to problem solve then to forced to be perfect, even if you only get that dopamine on the first clear, it's long-lasting. Hell, I still get goosebumps reflecting to my team clearing Rhulk at the 22h mark. That said, this raid was a wonderful combination of problem solving and execution, something we've only really seen in Destiny once before (being LW obviously), mad props to the teams that cleared it.
Your introspective outro, dude... 10 years ago? I was an angsty kid in middle school with a chip on my shoulder. Now? I'm fresh out of a trade school and starting a new job in a entirely new field in less than a week. It's crazy how much has changed.
You mentioned wanting selectable difficulties for raids and bringing back contest mode as an option. I’ve talked about this with my clan members for a long time, and some of the ideas we have cooked up include the following. 1) (highly unlikely) alternate contest emblem. You give an emblem that is similar to the contest emblem (like colored variant) or just an entirely new emblem (bungie can cook emblems up, see pantheon) to push some people to go get it, with a triumph being added for each raid. 2) artifice raid armor with bad roll protection, meaning members can select a stat focus for the raid and the game will guarantee 62-ish + armor on any armor drop. 3) raid weapons will be fully enhanced adept weapons with randomly dropped perks. If the perks are bad, it will drop good masterwork mats and if it is good, it’s a keepable weapon. 4) lastly, each encounter clear drops a bunch of materials (once per week or something to prevent farming easier encounters) like 2-4 ascendent alloys or shards plus some other drops along the same line.
I know RON gets crapped on for its difficulty and soloability, but I think it's okay to have easier and more difficult raids. Maybe they could scale the rewards based on that. Nice to be able to have a relaxing time with the boys in RON from time to time.
It’s also cool that in the herald encounter, around his little battlefield are statues of all the disciples in their death animation. Nice little touch
This raid was surely something else. When Raid launched, at 7pm CEST for me, my clanmates and i went in istantly. Yet, we spent 4 hours into the first encounter, yet we had no idea what we were doing. Around the 6 hours mark, i had to close for the next morning i had to work, so i closed at 1 am, went to sleep, woke up at 6 am for i had a shift at 7 am. My clanmates closed alongside me, for they still had no idea what to do and had to close as well. Morning went by, yet i was still following the raid race, in fact at 10 am i opened twitch, and saw how people were still racing (thanks for the Raid Zone event btw, Evan!). At 1 pm, i finished my shift, went home, booted up my pc, tuned up on Raid Zone while making lunch.. I was so focused on watching the race (people reached the Witness, but we couldnt see stuff since most of the players started covering their screen), yet it was a moment so tense, i even cutted myself while cooking. The idea that it took longer than Last Wish, that only one team beat it under the 24 hours mark, the Excision activity... This raid is peak Destiny.
I was mixed on comms muting, but its a race so i just swapped between streams. Ill never forget how long Verity took when i watched it. I remember being able to watch the whole encounter being solved on my way to a trip to the east coast. Both flights took 3-4 hours each and made it to my aunts house slept and woke up when they finally made it to the Witness.
That last line about Evam being 27 in a month is wild. I started got destony the first Christmas it was out in 2014. And when I finished the black garden/campaign the first time i was 11 years old... Im turning 21 next week and i havent fekt this good about destiny in a long time.
I first started raiding back in 2014 with vault of glass, and got antheon , and though I never finished it, I am just so happy to see how far raiding has come from kings fall, to last wish. And now the final raiding of the saga. And the thing I thought of the memory of that vault memory, and how much has changed in ten years
In terms of the day 1 watching experience, I got over the muted coms but I thought that covered screens were a bit much. text chat I get but the fact bungie put the timer at the top for the encounter made it so you saw like 60% of the game with some still images covering the gameplay.
13:33 Holy crap dude I absolutely love Colgara boss theme. I was about to fall asleep and my eyes shot open when that theme started playing. My heart...right in the nostalgia
I remember going to sleep with teams on 4th encounter and waking up several hours later to teams still on the 4th encounter...i was like jeez, i would've given up hour 2 lol
I awake at 11 am and watch this the entire time had to stop here there and still was going on finally had to sleep at 7 am and they completed an hour later so yeah
Great video as always Evan. A really fun experience chilling with and CB after only getting to 2nd encounter after hours and hours. My opinion on hiding screens is that I fully understand why it is done but for the viewing of thousands of people its kinda lame. If you have a giant audience watching you and your screen is completely black, I dont know what the point of streaming is at that point.
Jesus christ its called hyping yourself and the team up professional teams in any medium say shit like this all the time. They were just on one encounter for literally ages and they were aware that teams were ahead of them morale was down so one member says something like this to help everyone's mental.
4th encounter can be simplified even further for inside too, you just hand everyone their original shape, then from left to right they hand out their shapes to the other 2 people, so if it was tcs, left side would have 2 triangles after everyone hands the statues their symbols. Then after everyone has their own shapes, you triangle would hand it to middle and right, then middle and right side would hand everyone else their statues shape(to avoid overloading the right side with shapes, there is a 3 shape limit). then you just grab your shapes and exit.
It's honestly ironic and funny that during the Salvation's edge raid race, Still Hunt, an exotic based on probably one of the most iconic supers ever. And one whose Salvation's perk literally says "Cayde's Retribution" played a big role in this race.
I think hiding screens is annoying because the raid race is supposed to be watched and with knowledge of cheating in the past being a thing (kings fall) players should be forced to keep screens shown but be allowed to mute coms. I mean hell for as long as the raid was too there was devs watching and man it wasn’t entertaining seeing just face cams or a s**t post on my screen for them to only turn it back on when the encounter is done
Facts. I also hate when Evan and CB defend them by using the “Football game, clip board covering the mouth” example because it doesn’t make sense. In this case you can’t see anything at least in a football game you can still watch the football game 😂
@@BailyC295 that was a very poor analogy. It was more like them telling everyone to leave and turning off the cameras in the last 10 minutes of a football game.
No disrespect meant for Parabellum actually winning the race, since they didn't even publicly stream, I have nothing against them. I simply respect those who stream start to finish, more than those who hid comms and blacked screens. Those who valued their community over their "advantage" are the best. In MY perfect world, all the world's first teams would have to figure the raid out between themselves and wouldn't have to worry about other teams stream sniping info for an advantage, but I know this is too much to expect, so good on those who didn't let it bother them.
I think my favorite part was the post raid video we see before Excision. The 6 guardians who got the world first are now, quite literally, part of the lore. Of course they couldn't model them in to a pre rendered cutscene but if Bungie could have found a way to do it they would.
Shout out to Redeem for being the only major team not to cover screens/ mute streams. Everyone else soft af it’s about the viewing experience just as much as the race
I subscribed to Gladd as a thank you for not going dark. I wouldn't have minded muted comms, but blank screens seem to be against the spirit of signing up for a streaming *event*.
No it ain’t. It’s a competitive race first and foremost. They mute n black screen because Some of these teams take that seriously. None of them *have to* stream it. And if they do, it’s at their discretion, not yours. Don’t like it, either play the raid or watch someone else. Everyone’s got their own approach, be conscious of that
So then they shouldn't have streamed, that simple. They're trying to make easy money since their viewerbase is pretty miniscule, instead of making better content. There is a reason that Gladd and Sweat didn't mute or hide screen, cause they have viewers that enjoy watching them and not just the game. @JesusMartinez-xv8if
@@JesusMartinez-xv8if Such a BS excuse. Your entire post falls apart the second it's mentioned that a lot of people PAID TO WATCH THIS. Not only that, the streamers got paid for viewership and time as well, with the expectation to deliver a product. Honestly people should reach out to Twitch and/or do mass refunds/cancelling of subs. Teach these streamers the same lesson Helldivers 2 had to be taught.
I understand blocking comms during the raid races, however a lot of teams outright blocking the entire screens yet still streaming ultimately defeated the point of streaming the race in general. I much would've preferred people who would block their screens out completely to simply not stream at all
Honestly the only way to actually watch the raid race was through you on twitch. Everyone being on no comms makes sense from a strategy perspective, but as a viewer, it’s just unwatchable. I watch these streamers for their commentary 90% of the time, and hearing nothing is a slap in the face.
We need harder diffuilties for raids so bad. Day one contest mode is some of the most rewarding destiny I have ever played. Side note 10 years ago I had a horrible drug addiction and was so broken. I didnt leave my house for an entire month and would only do drugs and play.During such a dark time Destiny was the little bit light in my life. Now 10 years later I am a husband, father of two girls, own a house, sober, and a great job still playing Destiny. Greatful I got to see the end of this saga.
Thank you very much for your stream and video! Our team only got as far as the 2nd Encounter and it was great fun to continue watching you! GG to Parabellum.
"An absolute blast to watch" when all of the tems blacked out their screens. What a fucking joke. I'm so glad that a non-streamer team got the win, as soon as I heard I tuned in waiting for saltagreppo to cry

You got free emblems and tracking and you didn't have to watch

Don't forget that during the Day 1 of the Last Wish, almost everyone was underlight compared to the mobs and bosses. So theoretically, if during Last Wish players were the right light level, the raid would've been completed much, much faster. This makes Salvation's Edge even crasier of a raid

Great video as always Evan. A really fun experience chilling with and CB after only getting to 2nd encounter after hours and hours. My opinion on hiding screens is that I fully understand why it is done but for the viewing of thousands of people its kinda lame. If you have a giant audience watching you and your screen is completely black, I dont know what the point of streaming is at that point.
hearing the arrogance of that dude from Elysium "It's almost like we're just better at the game" I am so happy they didn't win.

Im gald that HE didnt win, but i felt kinda bad for his team, either way, act like an ass and get what you deserve
You and everyone else, I think. Myself included.
Really funny that the comment came after being stuck on an encounter for 11 hours because they couldn't figure out a puzzle.
Jesus christ its called hyping yourself and the team up professional teams in any medium say shit like this all the time. They were just on one encounter for literally ages and they were aware that teams were ahead of them morale was down so one member says something like this to help everyone's mental.
I remember clearly what I was doing when they finished edging. crucible, respawned, my team was behind by about 20 points and I was using lemon
Yup thats how my teams do it.

Atp showing there screen on day one was the most hype moment for me. Such an enjoyable night watching it all.
I applaud teams that streamed their entire run without blocking everything or muting audio.
YO RESPECT FOR USING STAINED BRUTAL CALAMITY FOR MUSIC
