A lot of the dialogue in that show was adlibbed just like this scene, and there are a few "Dr. Katz: Best of Ben" videos on TH-cam that showcase the actor's adlibbing talents.
The thing that makes this is how realistic the diction and the pace of the conversation is. They had to have ad-libbed this, just talk for two full minuets about skull collections and brain jars.

Jon Benjamin is fuckin' gold. He is one of the best voice actors of his time to sound extremely natural, and even though you KNOW it's him, he still manages to bring something to the character. Man, I love his work!
Coach McGirk is a timeless character to me and will always be his first and best role to me and i love that i got to enjoy Brendan Small's earliest work as well as his later show Metalocalypse which i also love just as equally. i was gonna say they are both amazing entertainers which they are but what i love about them is they are masters of their niche and not a widespread phenomena and i think i like them all the more so because they speak to my personal tastes particularly like not many average entertainers do.. they are very much niche very much not generic and you kind of have to be of a certain mindset to take in the dry humor to appreciate the slow burn style.. i like that their style is not for everyone but it does feel very much for me

I’ve always wanted a conversation like that, maybe not about brains and skulls, but just this organic feel. It’s just so normal and relatable how they do it. I’ve never had that and I’ve always wanted something like that y’know?
mixing the banal with the fantastic is always entertaining. Like how having brain jars and skull collections is just a normal thing kinda brings out a sincerity between the two dudes. We dont judge them for how much they care about their collections because the concept is beyond what we know (if you have brain jar collection let me know how this conversation felt). If it was anime figures or spoon collections we might judge and assume in a way that breaks the illusion. But because their collections are obscene WHILE conveyed as normal we get whiplashed into just going along with these guys opinions because thats the only context to judge their hobbies. And thats just the vehicle to get you to empathising with people who like stuff that isnt normal. The anguish of someone close to you being unable to "get" your passions. Then finding someone who you can vent to. Maybe if society was more accepting of weirdness the world would be a wonderous place

Some of the cooler ones are a giant sea turtle and an african gazelle, all acquired legally and without me killing, either scavenging/auctions/antiquing. I had the opportunity to get a blue whale vertebrae, but I don't have space for it and no one could give me proper verification if it really came from a blue whale or not. Look up vulture culture, thats basically what I do, along with some taxidermy/pinned bugs.

I just sit there at the table munching through my lunch plate while my co-workers talk about organizing their collection of human skulls and painting their ceilings with blood. Part of why I love Archer is because the conversation feels weirdly organic
It’s sometimes harder to follow, but it feels so much more authentic to listen to people politely talk over one another in a conversation. It should be done more often that way.

mixing the banal with the fantastic is always entertaining. Like how having brain jars and skull collections is just a normal thing kinda brings out a sincerity between the two dudes. We dont judge them for how much they care about their collections because the concept is beyond what we know (if you have brain jar collection let me know how this conversation felt). If it was anime figures or spoon collections we might judge and assume in a way that breaks the illusion. But because their collections are obscene WHILE conveyed as normal we get whiplashed into just going along with these guys opinions because thats the only context to judge their hobbies.
And thats just the vehicle to get you to empathising with people who like stuff that isnt normal. The anguish of someone close to you being unable to "get" your passions. Then finding someone who you can vent to. Maybe if society was more accepting of weirdness the world would be a wonderous place
