    So how annoying is that misaligned boot lid? I've worked out the latch mechanism needs adjustment, so it should be fairly easy to sort out!

      Just what I was thinking. An even easier fix

    • @sean-mccarthy
      @sean-mccarthy 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I found with mine it was as if the left tail light was installed in the wrong place from factory (looks identical to yours, before I did my fix) I used a step drill and oversized the holes in the body for the tail light and it gave me some adjustment room when tightening up the bolts. I found my bootlid closed straight, but the tail light was sitting wrong against the garnish and top of the bumper if that makes sense.

    • @MotoringBoxTV
      @MotoringBoxTV  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@sean-mccarthy I'll make sure to check that out. From what I can see the gap from the tail lights to the bumper seems to match both sides, and the bootlid does sit flat until it latches. The latch sits slightly off-centre (towards the left) so that's why it'll be the first thing I'll check - it may be holding the lid down a little bit too hard.

      Sometimes it’s as simple as an adjustable rubber grommet that you just screw slightly in or out for very minor tolerance differences on boot lids and bonnets

    Got the same problem on the LHS doors on my NC. Glad I stumbled on this video as I thought I'd have to replace the whole molding not realizing the chrome strips just peel off! Also thanks for putting up the E bay link as I've checked it out & it has exactly what I need to fix the shitty looking chrome strip on that side of the car.

    Very nice NC mate. I’ve just finished a BF G8 very happy how she looks and drives. Fist thing I did was get some quality carbon tint. ( just legal) but with the Lighting Strike Silver paint. I had clear coat issues pretty standard sadly but I removed the whole lot and respray of clear coat. Just amazing. Thanks for the tips. Even the plastic clips that connect injectors electrics of every kind. They can be very brittle and keeping everything as original as possible is a delicate process.👌🇦🇺👍

    Top job and top video. Your plastic garnish looks shiny but I could recommend Mothers plastic polish. Excellent stuff. Great for polishing dash dials. Really gives them a lift. If you were stuck refurbishing that Fairlane badge I have in the past taken a photo of the badge and taken to a sign writer who can use the image to make a new one from vinyl. This can be stuck over the original. Can look really smart.

  • @baglessnoblades
    @baglessnoblades 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Can't speak to fixing the silver, but I've restored the Fairlane and ford badges on these before. If you get it before the silver lifts away you can just sand back and respray the backs in "Cardinal red" which was one of the factory colours for that car. Makes them look brand new!
    Edit: Fishing line and some patience makes lifting the badges out pretty easy too.

    Loved this video! Currently tracking down a front bumper for my EB II wagon. Can’t wait to fit the Red bumper insert trim. Seeing you change the locks reminded me of when I did all of them on my EB. Interesting to see your rear garnish has those blanked off bulb holes. My wagon has two lights underneath the reverse lights that are blanked off and do nothing too. Wonder what they might’ve been for?

    • @MotoringBoxTV
      @MotoringBoxTV  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      They're like extra reversing lights, which for some reason Ford blanked off. I guess it's a carry-over from the NA Fairlane, which had the badge strip running straight through the centre of the garnish, instead of sitting lower like on the NC. If you sourced two new bulb holders it'd be easy enough to reinstate them, but they're sitting behind the badges.

The chrome on my rubber-like door guard trims seems to be different, ie. not a 4mm thick strip like the front and rear bars. The chrome on these door guards seems to be a part of the actual moulding if that makes sense, ie. there's no old strip to remove. Would you know how I could restore this chrome?

    Get a good picture of that Fairlane badge while it's in good shape, maybe with some sort of scale above or below it- I bet you could get somebody, maybe a sign shop, to make a good decal. Won't be quite the same as the factory piece, but much less of a pain to fix and less risk of damaging anything if your new one wears out.

    • @MotoringBoxTV
      @MotoringBoxTV  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I measured it up a few years ago and still have an accurate scale artwork file of it. Back in the day I was looking at getting some reproductions made (properly, using clear perspex/resin with CNC letters cut to half depth) but the price per piece was quite high. I may revisit the idea in the future, you never know.

      Check out 1993 EB Falcon, the Fairlane is an extended version of the same platform. The long wheel base platform was used for the Falcon station wagon as well. If you Google EB Falcon wagon you’ll see that the doors are same as a Fairlane. There was also a Fairmont and Fairmont Ghia which were luxury versions of the Falcon. Also, there was an LTD which was an even more luxurious version of the Fairlane !!! All Aussie Ford Falcons are descendants of the early 60s American Falcons. The first Aussie Falcons were virtually identical to the US spec ones.

    I have a 93 DCII 5LTR LTD and those chrome moulds have a very thin plastic protective covering over the faux chrome those vertical cracks sometimes are simply solved by peeling the plastic film away.
    The cracking is from the sealing glue delaminating after many many yrs.
    But now the chrome will be exposed to the elements ...so keep an eye on that.
    If you still own the Fairlane, it's time to drop it on some King springs super low springs .

      You've done well at maintaining the aesthetic/ cosmetics in a high standard as yes as I've experienced after 20 - to almost 30yrs moulds ,plastics ,rubbers deteriorate due to the sun & elements.
      Thankfully with my Dc Ltd its garaged . And I have professional detailing products and use them for the cars benefit and durability.
      Being a Pearl black finish and 28yr old its very challenging to maintain to a high standard,
      Its def not perfect as pearl blk reflects every slight stone chip or imperfection . But still very presentable, better than most cars that are only 10yrs old I see around.
      I'm chasing a left rear tailight lense as mine has developed spider cracks due to the sun .
      And they are made from polycarbonate plastic which doesn't like U.V rays.

      I don't own the car any more sadly, but even if I did I would never lower it. I've done it before on an FD LTD and it ruined the car (in my opinion). Don't get me wrong, it looked absolutely fantastic. But it ruined the ride, shook the interior to bits and the long wheelbase meant that it scraped the belly on even the mildest of driveways. It was pretty much everything a Fairlane or LTD shouldn't be.
