I will never not be disappointed that we didn't get these unique cars in the U.S. They're like an awesome blend of Ford Europe styling and American qualities (like having more than 90hp).
Thats really perceptive. I think the mix of American and European features were why they evolved into such awesome cars. I think the Favour was returned to the US when GM Holden executives responsible for the Commodore went to Cadillac and were responsible for creating sedans under the same formula which gave them a new direction (I think US car manufacturers really struggled when forced to downsize from their comfort zone of big beautiful V8 sedans in the 70s).
I do believe we have lost our way over the last 20 years, I think the isolation bought on by the COVID stuff has made us all realise the downsides of globalisation
The car is a literal time capsule. By that I mean it's so clean and looked after that it doesn't look like your average e series in 2020 does. Always admire a car enthusiast that can keep an interior like this in such good nick and keep it so clean. The plastic over the dash being spotless is what many falcon owners dream of.
Holy crap mate, WHAT A VIDEO! That was an amazing tribute to an era gone by... It's obvious that you care about the content that you put out, Congrats from a fellow Aussie.
Sums up why I love Australian cars. They're what the rest of the world wanted but never got. We may say the same about certain cars, but it seems easier for us to get them than for those overseas to get ours. As always, an awesome bloody video!
I have two Ford LTD'S A '93 DC II Pearl black 5ltr v8 , full leather ,woodgrain and fact sunroof matched with EL GT champagne rims. Also a 2002 DU II 5ltr mica pearl ( black with blue metallic flake) Cream leather int , woodgrain and fact sunroof. An 18 yr old saloon vehicle that still drives like a brand new car. I am the 2nd owner of that vehicle. Which is a rare fact in today's time. Complimented with full books and service history, and a no expense duel fuel system installed. The DU LTD was the first flagship Ford model with a no option listing as it was fully optioned and spect. And the first model fitted with a factory G.P.S screen and mobile p.h holder. For a 1999- 2002 model car it was well equipped. Worth noting that it was also the last model with the traditional dash design before they went the brushed alloy non- changeable centre entertainment console. Ugly! Aircraft dash. Ba Bf Fg Fgx And yes the NC & DC Fairlane & LTD was the closet American style aussie built limo. That and the 76- 79 ZH FAIRLANE P6 LTD which took its design cues from the Mercury Marquis of the time in the U.S. Every other Aussie Fairlane / Ltd was basically an extended falcon design with a improved luxury interior. Anyway, beautiful cars of their time that still are worth owning today in 2020-1 !+ Cars today, boring design thin sheet metal no personality. Classics not plastics!
This is really inspiring. I'm restoring an AU Fairlane at the moment and after driving more modern cars, the feeling you get when behind the wheel is amazing.
Grew up in Australia loving these cars. I am in the US and I have a 1997 Thunderbird LX with the 4.6. Despite the fact that it’s a 2 door, I would argue it is the closest thing to a Fairlane in the US at the time. It’s on the MN12 platform, and has IRS. The Fairlane didn’t have that, but the ride characteristics are similar. Soft grey velour seats. Just floats, soaks up the bumps. Mine only has 205hp (151kw). I wish it had the 260hp that came out later. Could always put a Coyote or a Godzilla in it. There’s some charm about keeping it original though, and it’s certainly cheaper not to do anything to it.
Bloody lamentable & embarrassing. Chucking in the towel on ever being taking remotely seriously as a manufacturing nation ever again. A straight rewind to 1900. Back to being nothing more than a quarry, giant paddock, or leased out fishery again.
As a fellow ford enthusiast myself I love the NC and have owned quite a few of them. But my current ride is a XE Fairmont Ghia. 302 V8 with 164,000ks, and we'll they say if you park your car and walk away, if you don't look back you bought the wrong car, needless to say I always look back. And have a smile from ear to ear driving it. Awesome video keep up the great work.
Ohhhh nice car, love them. Beautiful interiors, and the front end with the wider headlights just looks the business. Hang onto it mate. You can't find cars like that anymore.
Without doubt, the best TH-cam video I’ve ever seen! Well done on your story telling and production...absolutely without peer. I was about to post a comment on one of your earlier videos to thank you. Because of a previous NC video, I decided to buy an NF Fairlane and got it last week. I was amazed and genuinely excited to find you had posted this update. Many thanks mate and well done!
Another Quality Motoringbox video, your passion and enthusiasm for Aussie car culture is awesome and it really shows in your work. You will blow up soon mate (go viral), keep at it. Cheers
I bought a Honda CRX for my 21st birthday present to myself in 1988 on hire purchase at 18% interest. That hurt. Had to keep one step ahead of the repo man for four years. After sitting patiently in a dusty shed for 25 years during my expat life spent in Europe, I recently restored it back to mint as a COVID lockdown project. So good to have it back in my life again, not as the daily driver but just to take out from time to time to relive my youth.
The back of that car is a foxbody mustang over here in America. But all around it's still a beautiful vehicle and i would love to add it to my collection one day.
As always, brilliant video man. I have had an XF Falcon, EA Falcon, EB XR8 Falcon and now my FG F6, but I really do miss my old vehicles. Maybe one day, I will relive all of that. I have always loved the NA Fairlane.
An excellent video documentary you created here, a masterpiece of engineering quotes and meaningful messages you presented to your audience. Love your production quality and script work. Thank you. We are waiting for your next upload. My family of true petrol heads enjoys stuff like this. Take care and hello from Seattle Washington USA.
I love you’re reviews mate, really appreciate the effort you put in with the editing, information and time you put in these. It doesn’t go unnoticed. I think the only thing I’d like to see from you are different car reviews. I don’t know you’re situation (being able to get cars for a period of time to film them) etc. but I think it would be great. Holdens, valiants, xb, Xa etc etc you get my drift. Or anything really that’s just what I enjoy but I think it would be great content. Either way I appreciate what you’re doing mate. Keep it up! Love you’re work!
You have a real talent for putting the way we feel about cars into words. I'd never considered a person being wrong for a car, rather than a car being wrong for a person - I think that sums up the relationship I have with my MK4 Ford Fiestas. My idea of luxury isn't a 2020 Mercedes-Benz S-Class, but a simple, functional, and affordable small car, so I guess I'm the right person to own and drive a Fiesta. Those who don't 'get' why I like them so much simply don't have the attitude or lifestyle to be a Fiesta owner.
I guess a lot of people are just not that into cars. They've just got a load of money and then want to purchase a car which will show to everyone else how well they're doing.
As a Canadian that owned a 2002 Mercury Grand Marquis LS V8 and got to drive a 2011 P71 Crown Vic. I'd say it is your Australian version of our legendary panther platform. Quality video dude, love watching your videos so much, everytime you post a video I watch it from the beginning to the end. You got a good looking NC Fairlane, thank you for putting out these quality videos!
@@jamesfrench7299 James, when did I say its a Crown Victoria? I know about panther platforms a lot. I said its a their version, its not even comparable to the panther platform and has nothing in common. When did I ever say its a panther platform? No, I was talking about their version of big ford land yachts. Lol
@@SF.Automotive yeah that's fine. I was a little worried until I read on. As an owner of an NC myself (well my dad who has dementia -I drive it) it reminds me of the 1991 -96 Chevy Caprice B body a bit in as far as being large RWD with a 5 litre V8 and the grill that goes up with the bonnet (hood in your speak) while recognising they are very different cars for a different market segment.
The velour material in the ghia's in the EA-ED era was the best material ford ever used in an interior... I remember writing my name in it and then wiping it the other way as a kid... excellent stuff.
..... Well done Mate, just be careful, your at risk of winning an Oscar with production value like that. What a shame your not a Victor-rian, you could be a Top Bloke as well as cool !
Wow. I’m a ‘72 model and I’ve owned an XB- first car, XF, EA, EF, FG, and FGX (Also not admitting my ownership of a VL, VT, VX, WH, WL among many others) - that was such an awesome video. So well done thank you!
There are a few do-over's I'd go for... glad to see the NC again! The production quality of this video is seriously impressive. We'll never have cars like that again, so hold yours close. I daily drive my EB II wagon and often think "damn, you really cannot buy anything like this anymore". Gives me even more motivation to keep it alive for another few decades at least. It feels like a different car after replacing the original MAP, O2 and temperature sensors.
@@MotoringBoxTV I really loved the ending too. My answer is far from superficial, I could sit here for hours telling you stories about growing up with my grandfather with his SXV10 Camry... not many people get it, but it's all about the sentimental value. Every time I drive it, I'm reminded of him and all the time we spent together. The cars we own are a story of our own, and an extension of our own being.
Congratulations on an impressive video story. First one of yours that I've seen. Beautifully written, presented, shot and edited. Great music choice as well. I watched this because I drove this model (owned by my late father-in-law) from Melbourne into country Victoria in the late 1990s. I had never driven a car of this size, luxury and power before and was so impressed by it as a smooth and comfortable country cruiser with a full load of passengers. Seeing the interior from the driver's perspective brought back some solid memories of that time. Thanks.
The first video I watch on the channel was about this beauty(The first drive)! That's what got me hook on the channel and I have developed a soft spot for her. 🙂
You deserve a lot more than 19.4K subscribers with a production like that. Really well done, never seen an animation showing changing body styles before.
@@MotoringBoxTV My 3 wishes are if Ford could've perhaps just changed the style of the rear doors to look a bit more like the FG but anyway nonetheless it was a big facelift from the AU. Also it would've been a fantastic idea if Ford supercharged the new boss 5.4L at the time in the same way as they turbocharged the barra 4.0L. And lastly with the BAs had a 6 speed across the Falcon range which would be nice. List is endless really but anyway, BAs are a great looker you know. 😥
This video truely made me emotional not in a sad way but in a sentimental way, the videos only about your fairlane but somehow its deeper than that its about the world as a whole and where we are as people of modern times and how the world is changing, your choice of words and way of thinking is truely inspiring and intelligent and your editing gets better every video i truely believe motoringbox is my favourite TH-cam channel period
My uncle had a 1993 NC Ford Fairlane Ghia ltd didn't have the grill. Like your one. When he gave it to me. The car was very nice and comfortable. I gave it back because. A Few mechanical issues had to be done and I didn't have 2300 dollars to fix it. Uncle missed it and got it fixed it was safer after the repairs were done. When the exhaust got fixed it had a nice note and at idle it was quite. His had the biggest engine in it and up rated rear suspension for towing his horse float. Thirsty on fuel though, the 1984 WB statesman he had was more fuel efficient then the Fairlane. Enjoying your channel.
Lovely video Sean! Never owned a Falcon in my life but have always had a soft spot in my heart for the NC, a great looking car. I had a WH Statesman for many years and I loved that thing. 6 cyl, 80 ltr tank and I could drive from Sydney to Tailem Bend in SA, top it up and Adelaide was just an hour up the road. I always arrived relaxed, but tired after 1350 km’s and roughly 15 hrs behind the wheel from start to finish.
I'd say both the NC and the AU Fairlanes are by far the most american-like sedans. Dare I say we did it better and on a far lower budget than any of the Ford US engineers could ever manage.
@His Masters Voice . They are starting to go up in value now, and the V8's always demand a premium, but if you want a classic cruiser the NA - NC Fairlane's are generally better looked after than a falcon and not really any more expensive, although mint ones are now north of $10k, although $3k can get you a complete runner and a good starting point for a "rolling resto". Would love an NC Ghia myself (happy with a six), but will need to move on a couple of the current fleet first to make room. Cheers!
@@MotoringBoxTV if you can find a TL50, get it. They can still be had under that 30k mark because they’re often overlooked. A hell of a lot to spend on a car but it won’t be long before they reach XY GT levels of clout.
And at that time large Australian Ford and GM sedans were rear wheel drive whilst all the American cars that inspired the Aussie designs were front wheel drive. My Dad’s yank friend hired an EB thinking it was a Taurus but was really surprised that it was RWD and said it was much nicer to drive than the Taurus.
That was a good follow up to the car that gathered most interest. Appreciated the detailed going over oh the interior except you missed the pull out under dash park brake -a legacy of the XD Falcon introduced in 1979. The ED/NCII we're the last Aussie big Ford's to carry it. Many criticised it but I think they're nifty how they retract out of the way. A well deserved showcase of Aussie big Fords for international consumption. You've done our unique cars a service with such a well presented and engaging feature. I spoke to an owner of an NF Fairlane recently and he had an NC and made the point on how unique the NA/NC styling really was. I always marvelled at how much nicer the NC looked with only minor yet significant tweaks to the taillight area such as the font of the model lettering and even the tinting of the taillight lenses. It made a world of difference. The clear front indicator lenses together with a smarter Fairlane grill was astonishingly effective. The original wheels you kindly superimposed showed how much they suited the car. Great comprehensive production.
yeah when i was 18 i hated the xf handbrake as it made doing hand brakies harder, now i am in my 30's i am like this is brilliant a manual handbrake that wont bugger up like an electric one and its completely out of the way.
Yup there were definitely a few things I had to cutout to save the runtime, otherwise I could sit inside there and talk for hours! The handbrake is actually pretty neat, it is quite well hidden after it retracts away and keeps the interior nice and uncluttered. The guy with the NF is right about the NA to NC styling too - the minor tweaks really added up to make a big difference. Thanks as always for watching James and I always enjoy reading your comments!
Excellent review…I actually just purchased this very similar car a NC fairlane sportsman ghia with the 4.0L XR6 motor and is a one owner vehicle which is immaculate…I’m flying to Melbourne and driving it back to Perth,I’m so excited for the drive in this car
Yeah, I have a white NL with the 302. Best car I ever had. Reliable, comfortable, powerful, rides solid as a train, eats hills and overtakes with ease.
Another top video Sean. Its nice to see someone on TH-cam that shares the same passion for these ol bangers as I do ! I dunno if you're aware or not but the dash light dimmer has a day and a night setting. To set the brightness for night time turn your headlights on and set the brightness. It will then automatically change brightness when you put your lights on. Anyway keep em coming mate. Can't wait to see your next one !
Nice, back when I was buying this it was a toss up between this NC, and a '98 NL Ghia in that beautiful green colour they came in. Can't remember the name.
Me too! I have had a few newer cars while still driving the NL, and I suspect I will keep the NL for a very long time. It is a superior car to most newer cars. Especially because it does not have those stupid alarms.
Awesome video mate, your production values are off the charts for a TH-cam vid, up there with TV quality. That is a lovely car, I will admit I'm biased. As a 38 year old Aussie, that lives and breathes Ford's it's a given. Grew up in big Ford's, first a Fairlane from the 80s, XF falcon equivalent, my olds moved that on after it kept breaking door handles and got an EB GLI. I had a XE Falcon as my first car, an 82 model like my self. Had an XE Fairmont as a young fella too, a sting of XFs, utes, panel Van and Sedans. Had a V8 AU ute as well before I was a dad. Ended up with a really tidy EA wagon with a 5 speed manual. That eventually got upgraded to a EL GLI, one I f the best cars Ive ever owned, always had a soft spot for ELs, they were the current Falcon in my mid teens with a XR8 poster on my wall. Then got a BA XT sedan, comfy, drive well, loved the Barra motor and the sports shift auto. Not as robust as the older girls, rear bushes, wheel bearings, gear box, drive shaft. Now I'm back in an EL, was a roughy with under 190 000km when I bought it, now 197 000km almost a year later. It now had a new starting rack, lowered springs and shocks, sports exhaust, new ignition, new fuel pump, about to get front electric windows as manual window regulators are no longer available and my drivers one is broken. I have a 5 speed manual to go into it soon. Having my midlife crisis early and building what I wanted to as a teenager. Will have to replace the sill panels soon, but it will become my project/race car once I've saved up for and found a tidy AU Fairmont Ghia like yours.
I love your statement about car enthusiasts. I 100% agree. I myself have a Ford Focus RS and a VZ Holden Commodore (Formerly my Grandads). I love them for completely different reasons. The RS - making my own memories and enjoying all the luxuries of today’s modern cars. The Commodore on the hand puts a smile on my face without fail every time I drive it - taking me back to my childhood memories of growing up in the back seat of it. Great video mate. Loving the content!
First of all great video, really enjoyed this 1, what makes my car special, depends which car, latest car is my 1984 Oldsmobile Delta 88, I love the 80s box style era, everything about it, I'm a die hard Ford guy, always will be, next car will be a 82 Ford Thunderbird, hopefully not to far away
Nostalgia. In 1992 I had a 10 year old Daihatsu Rocky 4WD. Loved it because it would go absolutely anywhere, more capable than the land rovers and cruisers of the 90's and much better than my mates hilux's. In 1994 they came ut with an upgraded Rocky that I thought looked soooo awesome but I didn't have the money for a new car back then. 30 years later I saw one for sale, $4500, couldn't resist. It is slow, rough, noisy, has zero safety features, is not very economical (but not too bad) and compared to modern cars quite uncomfortable. But I will never get rid of it because I love driving the noisy, uncomfortable, beautiful and wonderful hunk of steel, I feel like I am 20 again, ready to take on Frazer Island for a week with nothing but a swag, fishing rod and a couple cartons of beer with my mates.
My 2016 Holden Commodore SV6 with 6 speed manual. I worked in the Elizabeth manufacturing plant for over 20 years. I helped build my own SV6 and got my mates from my work group to sign the floor under the back seat because as you know, Holden were closing the plant. I don't know that I'll ever be able to sell it as it has the car has so much meaning to me. Also, where the fuck can you get a family sized manual sedan in this shitty automotive country of ours any more!!!! Sad! Truly sad!
Got a 92 Mercury Grand Marquis bout it for 1200 bucks over a year ago haven't had any trouble with it other than the usual oil change and I replaced spark plugs as soon as I bought it. Great cars. And the Australian version I'm sure is a very solid reliable vehicle as its American counterparts are
Another great video mate keep them coming, I own a 1988 DA LTD which I bought for $300 with a blown head gasket, rust holes and 350,000k’s. I’m halfway through fixing it currently in the panel shop, everyone I know thinks I’m “over capitalising” or says “it’s so ugly” but the more people don’t like it the more I love it, it’s survived 32 years how could you let it go. People think they are everywhere until they are nowhere!
Visual tricks were great. Never seen this sort of thing on a TH-cam video before. 👍 By coincidence Furious Driving has just posted a video on a Crown Vic. which is a rare beast in the UK.
Our XA GS has been with us for 40 years. We now do family drives with our children, in the same car my parents drove my brother and I around in. The feeling is truly indescribable.
2:36 "Have you driven a Ford lately" - they used that slogan here in South Africa too and quite a few punters showed up at Ford dealerships asking if they could test drive the new Ford Lately.
Awesome video. Your outro hit the nail on the head, alot of people own these older cars for sentimental reasons. My '81 351 XD Falcon is packed to the rafters with memories and life experiences. From 2000km road trips to cruises with like minded mates, from work duties to week-ends with my father, brother and uncle doing engine swaps. From just sitting in the garage staring at it to first dates with my now wife (as a matter of fact I've just opened the door to the garage so I can look at it some more). These are what defines my car for me, and the reason I just love owning and driving it when I can. I've owned a few newer Falcon's in the last few years, and as great as they were, they just didn't give me the same 'feeling' inside as this old rig. I love it and hope to make more memories with my family for a long time.
Clicked like before I even watched. Top notch production quality like your other vids mate. Very fond of the NC's, I had one myself when I was younger, mine was a 'Sportsman' with the Tickford engine. I ended up adding the LTD grille, along with the full LTD cloth interior inc elec front seats, plus all the door trims and the extra wood in the console, made a huge difference to the feel of the car. Funnily enough mine was also white also, even had wire wheels!
Great video as always....loved your speech at the end....this is what seperates enthusiasts from everyone else. No matter what you're into, Ford, Holden, Japanese cars, Euro cars, American cars, etc, its not "just a car"....its more than that, so much more.
Ford Australia did used to get a lot of design hints from Ford USA, the AU falcon gets a lot of hints from the 3rd generation taurus in so many areas. The driver door power window controls in particular is almost a direct copy apart from the switches being reversed.
@@glennt69lol yeah that too, still love them and the Xe, better than the commodore of the same era, tow 500kg or even less and the chassis stretches leaving the rear doors permenantly open haha.
@@super_slav91 me too bro, had a solid cammed, ported 2v headed clevo making 460hp through a manualised C4/4200 stally, 9' 4:11's powered XD falcon that absolutely fry'd the tyres, upgraded to an FG FPV GS with the supercharged coyote engine/ZF auto, pretty happy with the FPV but I do miss the old school muscle 💪
I love non American people. Their so sophisticated and simplistic at the same time. They also have beautiful qualities of deep sensual thinking and aren’t generic and Mundane like Americans and I’m African American
Did/do the Aussie Fords have keypad entry like the American Fords? Just traded my Freestyle for a new Outlander and I miss the “just lock everything in the car and go for a run” feature already. Great video BTW. Love seeing all these different models from Down Under!

This brought back memories for me as a kid going on holidays in the falcon, just like you mentioned! And as a kid sitting in the back, opening the ‘power windows’ and looking out was just the best.
Hi Sean, there is still a lot of love for Australian made Ford cars. Last Sunday, Sydney Motorsport Park held its All Ford Car day and the turn out was massive. It is sad that we don’t have a local car industry and hope that we could start a campaign to rectify the situation. With the happenings of the last 3 years there is certainly a case for having a manufacturing industry in the Southern Hemisphere.
I had the pleasure of owning two Fairlanes. A ZH which was bitter sweet. I traded a 360 Chrysler on it and the Fairlane was only a 302 so naturally I thought it was gutless, but the rest of the car was great. The second was a ZL. EFI six, Star Wars digital dash, lounge room seats, plenty of sprawling room and compete silence inside. Fairlane's are like wine. The older ones are to be appreciated and through the years they just got better.
Loved this video Sean. My 1st car was a 86 Toyota Corona with a slug of an engine and too greedy on fuel, no power steering, no tacho. But I went from despising its boxy 80's looks to loving the simplicity, reliability, serviceability and "go anywhere ability". I took that car places that would shame many of today's utes and SUVs. And once it got up to speed (in a leisurely way) it would hold its own on the road. Remember chasing a v8 holden ute once that overtook me at speed and I caught him up and then he couldn't lose me. The bloke was fuming in his rearview mirror with his macho v8! The best thing about that car was the chocolate brown interior and cream fabric seats which I used to keep immaculate. They just don't use colours like that in car interiors anymore which is a real shame. Today we have a Territory with eucalypt green interior and don't have any desire to buy anything more modern with dull black or grey interiors. I resonate with your idea that peoples cars mirror their life stories. Looking back at my own catalogue does tell a lot about who I was and now am. Keep up the good work!
I've got a EF Fairmont Ghia 5.0 which a mate of mine got off a gang member a few years back who was using it for a skid pig, he did the thing up and got it super tidy and after his license got disqualified i spent a bunch of time driving it around and i fell in love with the way the car handled, sounded and felt. Just has so much character so i offered to buy it. now he's just picked up a 79 mustang ghia and i've got the fairmont
I fully agree about leather seats. I recall the honourable Jeremy Clarkson referring valour seats as "vulgar-lour" although I agree that it has a nice premium feel to it and ages far better than leather. Thanks for the video as it was a fascinating look back at the 'hero cars' of my childhood. I'd love to see more including cars like newer Fairlanes, Statesmans, HSVs and FTE/FPVs. Cheers!
Yeah, velour was kind of like a synthetic velvet, not bad at all (especially in summer). Now we have synthetic leather, called vegan leather, pleather or what we used to call vinyl!

I do believe we have lost our way over the last 20 years, I think the isolation bought on by the COVID stuff has made us all realise the downsides of globalisation
Yup, there are quite a few.
Loving these video's. Some of the best editing I've seen in a car review. Period.
Thanks mate!
2:35 was so cool!!! Top edit mate
👍
Sums up why I love Australian cars. They're what the rest of the world wanted but never got. We may say the same about certain cars, but it seems easier for us to get them than for those overseas to get ours. As always, an awesome bloody video!
Yup true, we're probably the only ones to have made so many cars and not export them (at least in any large quantities. And NZ doesn't count!! Lol)
I have two Ford LTD'S
A '93 DC II Pearl black 5ltr v8 , full leather ,woodgrain and fact sunroof matched with EL GT champagne rims.
Also a 2002 DU II 5ltr mica pearl ( black with blue metallic flake)
Cream leather int , woodgrain and fact sunroof.
Ba Bf Fg Fgx
And yes the NC & DC Fairlane & LTD was the closet American style aussie built limo.
That and the 76- 79 ZH FAIRLANE P6 LTD which took its design cues from the Mercury Marquis of the time in the U.S.
Every other Aussie Fairlane / Ltd was basically an extended falcon design with a improved luxury interior.
Anyway, beautiful cars of their time that still are worth owning today in 2020-1 !+
Cars today, boring design thin sheet metal no personality.
Classics not plastics!
Man the production quality of this video is top notch, awesome review man - you've killed it with this one undoubtedly 🤙
Thanks mate, glad you enjoyed it.
This is really inspiring. I'm restoring an AU Fairlane at the moment and after driving more modern cars, the feeling you get when behind the wheel is amazing.
Go for it! They're very unique cars.
Really enjoyed this look into a nostalgic time when a car was alive and full of character and fun.Nick
Thanks Nick!
This video should have more views.
Fingers crossed!
I had a NC LTD was a lovely long distance cruiser.
falcons are great highway cars.
What kind of job did you have to be making LTD money, assuming it was new at the time?

Its sad Australia does not make cars anymore. They were well-suited to our road conditions and culture, and represented great value too
And yet no one bought them in the end😮
I always admired their interiors.
Thanks Adam! Glad to hear you've picked up an NF, they're getting thin on the ground too.
I feel that same nostalgia for those days and earlier as an American. Good video.
Nice car history there!
Man, your editing is getting sooo good. This video really makes me love my families ED Fairmont a whole lot more
The Fairmont's are awesome, such classy looking cars.
An excellent video documentary you created here, a masterpiece of engineering quotes and meaningful messages you presented to your audience.
Love your production quality and script work.
Thank you.

By far my favourite part of the video was when your odometer ticked over to 200000km, awesome video mate, editing superb as always
Yup I absolutely couldn't miss that.
Just turn 200000 miles on my grand marquis 2005
As a Canadian that owned a 2002 Mercury Grand Marquis LS V8 and got to drive a 2011 P71 Crown Vic. I'd say it is your Australian version of our legendary panther platform. Quality video dude, love watching your videos so much, everytime you post a video I watch it from the beginning to the end. You got a good looking NC Fairlane, thank you for putting out these quality videos!
That's YOUR perception even if the truth is entirely another thing.
Unitary construction vs ladder chassis for starters.
It's an original platform.
@@jamesfrench7299 James, when did I say its a Crown Victoria? I know about panther platforms a lot.
I love the 76-79 Ford LTD P6. Beautiful lines and great Cleveland motors.
Thanks Rob!
Wow. I’m a ‘72 model and I’ve owned an XB- first car, XF, EA, EF, FG, and FGX (Also not admitting my ownership of a VL, VT, VX, WH, WL among many others) - that was such an awesome video. So well done thank you!
Damn, finely edited man.
Quality production here.
Thanks so much mate 👍
There are a few do-over's I'd go for... glad to see the NC again! The production quality of this video is seriously impressive. We'll never have cars like that again, so hold yours close. I daily drive my EB II wagon and often think "damn, you really cannot buy anything like this anymore". Gives me even more motivation to keep it alive for another few decades at least. It feels like a different car after replacing the original MAP, O2 and temperature sensors.
To add to that, the taillight treatment is known as "heckblende", a favourite of mine!
Well there you go, learn something everyday!
Did you really turn over the 200.000 km while you were filming ? Great video quality !!!
I have a 93 town Car and love driving it !!
To add to that. These cars must be preserved now that this country is no longer producing locally.
Agreed!
Ahhhhh, the production and editing is so good. You can tell you put a lot of love and hard work in to your videos!
Thank you so much, I try.
Love the NC Fairlane. Large and in charge.
Another great video, keep it up!
Thanks so much mate.
You deserve a lot more than 19.4K subscribers with a production like that. Really well done, never seen an animation showing changing body styles before.

Best Australian Ford Saloon ever made in my opinion, I like the FE LTD as well but man U can't go wrong with a NA-NC -DA-DC

3:44 is probably my most favorite Falcon of the lot. 👌
I just love the look of those BA XRs. 😋
Yup, beautiful aren't they.
Thanks mate, I try to go a little deeper with things so I am glad you appreciate it.
Of all the Ford Australia cars I'd like to import to the States, this is the one I would.
Such a classy early 90's design.
Late 80s. Revised to the NC model in 1991 with a minor makeover to the 1988 NA. All body parts are interchangeable.
Dad had one for a time. Was a bag of fun to drive.
Same deal, just from the Holden side of the fence. Pretty much everything I said still applies 😁👍
I'd say both the NC and the AU Fairlanes are by far the most american-like sedans. Dare I say we did it better and on a far lower budget than any of the Ford US engineers could ever manage.
The AU version was very unique. If I didn't already have the Fairmont Ghia I'd be looking at one.
Don't forget the NL.
Growing up in the 80s,I thought this was best looking car when I first saw it on the road.I thought Ford did a great job with the design.
Excellent review…I actually just purchased this very similar car a NC fairlane sportsman ghia with the 4.0L XR6 motor and is a one owner vehicle which is immaculate…I’m flying to Melbourne and driving it back to Perth,I’m so excited for the drive in this car
Have an NL and love it to death and the condition of your NC looks like it just rolled of the factory. Great job man
So you should, they look amazing.
Yup it sure does, nice feature that.
You mean it memorises the respective settings you last left them in?
Love the look of the NCs. I currently have an NL Giha which im loving
The storage bin in the console gets cold because the ducting for the ventilation vents at the back for the rear passengers pass either side of the bin
That's a nice two car garage 👍
What makes your car so special to you? Let me know in the comments below.
First of all great video, really enjoyed this 1,
what makes my car special, depends which car, latest car is my 1984 Oldsmobile Delta 88, I love the 80s box style era, everything about it, I'm a die hard Ford guy, always will be, next car will be a 82 Ford Thunderbird, hopefully not to far away
How you got it.
I think we're already at that point! Almost every example I see going up for sale is munted in one way or another.
@@MotoringBoxTV true, it’s just a shame the price doesn’t reflect that, but I guess price and finding one are two different things

Why anyone would buy a Merc when you can buy a First Nations Fairlane is beyond me.
Nice interiors those.
25:28 - Wait, you were doing 60 KPH with the doors, trunk and fuel door open?
Haha, no. But looking sideways at it you can see all of the elements. From the driver's view that never happens.
Great video as always....loved your speech at the end....this is what seperates enthusiasts from everyone else. No matter what you're into, Ford, Holden, Japanese cars, Euro cars, American cars, etc, its not "just a car"....its more than that, so much more.
Absolutely!
28:30 wait, are you having a baby? Congrats!
😁
Ford Australia did used to get a lot of design hints from Ford USA, the AU falcon gets a lot of hints from the 3rd generation taurus in so many areas. The driver door power window controls in particular is almost a direct copy apart from the switches being reversed.
Fun fact, the XD panels were stamped with rust already in the steel.
Wouldn't surprise me.
And the door handles half snapped too 😂

What an awesome video. Absolutely brilliant. The effects are by far the best I’ve seen on TH-cam. 10 out of 10. 👌👍
Wow, thanks!
Your rego expired on the 5th ;)
It sure did.
Did/do the Aussie Fords have keypad entry like the American Fords? Just traded my Freestyle for a new Outlander and I miss the “just lock everything in the car and go for a run” feature already.
Great video BTW. Love seeing all these different models from Down Under!
Nope, just Tibbe locks and a 'Smartlock' immobiliser system. Made them almost instealable back in the day, but not so much these days.
That nc is begging for a barra swap
I'd agree with that.
@@MotoringBoxTV on a long enough timeline everything gets a ls
Got a 1996 DF Fairlane LTD i absolutely love it NC DF are really the best Fairlanes built i love all your videos i always watch them and you do the best job with all the videos
Nice choice, look after it!
Cheers!
And great production value too! Very clever editing!
Yeah, velour was kind of like a synthetic velvet, not bad at all (especially in summer). Now we have synthetic leather, called vegan leather, pleather or what we used to call vinyl!
Really enjoyed this. Rad boat and superb editing mate. Cheers for not going hard on the ads, was a pleasure to watch. Crazy how this thing seems 20 years ahead of my VL Berlina 😂.
Thanks mate!
