Amazing stuff. Told ya so. It dries to a smooth satin finish and not at all greasy. I've found the best finish is not to rinse, but to wipe with a rag. Yep, alternators can be soaked in water just like any 12V circuit - apart from electronics that is! 12V DC won't short in water, the resistance is too high. With older cars that don't rely on CAN-BUS and modules for comms and switching, your headlights and electric windows will even continue to work underwater.

Just letting you know that every time you change the engine oil on BA and BF turbo cars you should check your exhaust manifold bolts they have a bad habit of coming loose.
I wish I'd have seen this comment earlier this week and would have saved 60 bucks, but I'm still happy as he checked the car over all. So my BF was running really rough and was losing power when accelerate also engine light was on, Went to mechanic he said it sound like an exhaust leak or manifold gasket, but he found that was manifold nuts were loose, he could have lied to me and charged more if wanted to. He's washed and cleaned the entire engine, checked all over and charged me $60 for that.
Check out the money shot starting at 5:04 when I sprayed the dirty intake manifold (on the right side of the engine). All the crud on the intake runners simply slid straight off.
I had a look at the ingredients of tyre foam.........essentially a cleaner with a conditioner, so it makes sense and the foam probably helps remove the gunk........
Hey everyone, as someone studying his cert II in Electrotechnology one of the first things you learn is the types of fire extinguishers to use on electrical fires and one of the big ones not to use is foam fire extinguishers as they can be conductive. I understand that this is different but I just wouldn’t recommend putting foam on the battery! This video is amazingly done and I liked this a lot and was very entertaining!
Just did the engine bay on my skyline, MAN! I am a convert, I’ll never use anything else now, so easy, and the deep black plastic and rubber without the oily residue, yep! You were 100% correct on this one. Thanks again.
I just did this last night for the first time after a TH-cam video popped up randomly. I just bought a 98 Durango with 114,000 miles. Ran to the store and got some foam. Sprayed it on and let it soak overnight. This morning my engine looks like BRAND NEW!!! I didn't remove anything...just sprayed foam on everything except alternator and belts. Took 5 minutes.
I figured this out a few weeks ago at work. The boss had a rather vintage can of tyre foam on the shelf so I used it on the plastic rocker covers of an engine getting a rebuild. Worked like a charm
True. I've been using that for a few years on my cars engine bays. And I agree. Works great. Smells OK when using it. No sticky mess Ut leaves a nice light shine. I say it to everyone. To use this. Good work mate.
I am a clean nut with my cars and although I've owned AU's, BA, BF and FG's....I have to admit I've used tyre shine before but never taken off the intake pipes, battery and air box etc. The results are amazing. Loving your videos bud!
This is exactly what i use, it works a treat and far better then tyre shine. If you must, you can use tire shine, it looks great, however do make sure you rub it in well to reduce any collecting of dust, you will find it wont collect much dust if you rub it in well. Great video mate!
for a one stop shot of cleaning and dressing, this method is unbeatable. the only way to get a better result is to go with a two stage clean of first degreasing and then dressing. But that defeats the point you wanted to make.
Hi Sean, gr8 clip. Are you going to do your own servicing like oil change, gearbox & diff oil? If so will you do some clips on this. I for one would be v interested cheers
Things to do in lockdown or if you're time starved. I usually use a can of degreaser, then pressure wash and get the leaf blower for any water that's hiding. Any plastics get the AutoGlym bumper & trim gel treatment. A great easy to do video for people who are not sure what to do when cleaning under the bonnet.
Gees mate it looks amazing. Thats a great result. Ill be getting 2cans of that to do my cars engine bays. Cant go out for the weekend well 5ks from home. Hot tip i use black boot polish for my tyres. Just like polishing your boots. Same method. 👌
Did this last night, one thing you can also do is remove the grille assembly, it's an extra two scrivet's on the top assembly and three clips at the bottom. You can't actually see the clips unless you push the whole assembly outwards from the top, also FYI when you pop each clip out, make sure you push it all the way out, don't hear it pop and come out a little and move onto the next one or else like me, you will find you get to the third and the others have popped back in. push all the way towards yourself until the whole part of the assembly the clip is holding in comes away from the bumper completely. I could not get over how much gunk I found behind the grill. I hung it on two pot plant hooks, hit it with tyre foam and 10 minutes later washed it all down.
Nice video, BTW the best way I've found to clean the battery terminals and clamps is to clean them with cola soft drink and then wash it all off with water - cheers.
One of the best aerosol degreaser is the 5 star foaming degreaser from Cheap As Chips, in my opinion anyway. I cart fuel and use this $3 can to clean my outlets. Comes up a treat.
Like and subbed mate, your a man cut from my own ilk in terms of how methodical and practical you are i can relate, top effort putting together this channel, from down in Vic. James
I did put a sheet of clear plastic on top of it, but I've heard other people say alternators are fine with copping a bit of water. Up to you in the end!
So glad you kept water and sprays away from under the black cover on the top of the engine. Hidden under there are the coils and spark plugs. I saw the results of cross fire caused by water in there. It caused the timing chain to jump, and changed the cam timing. It was cheaper to replace the engine with one from the wreckers. Go easy with the water! Very interesting video Sean, definitely not what I would ever have thought to use, thanks.

Thank you so much for this trick. Until now I just did this with degreaser which got it clean but didn't get a nice shine. Now you just need to clean out the yucky coolant tank.
This is a much better option than degreaser as there's no horrible burn-off smell that lingers for a few days. I think I'll probably end up replacing the coolant tank altogether.
I seem to remember some voodoo concoction involving dishwasher tablets to clean these, here on utoob somewhere, they come up white and new looking. Anyone got the clues to link?
Yes much better. Tyre shine is all greasy and would leave a terrible finish that would attract lots of dust I imagine. Probably wouldn't clean as well either.
Rather than using a garden hose, I use a pump type garden sprayer. Less mess. Also, I have well water, so I fill my sprayer from my reverse osmosis system to prevent water spots.

To clean battery terminals rinse in a litre of warm water with a couple of tea spoons of bi carb soda will neutralise the acid and clean it off the terminals. then rinse off with hose. FYI normal tap water is not going to short the battery out :)
I used the same spray degreaser with a water blaster on my VY Commodore 3.8, and it worked great! Just wrap vital electronics with aluminium foil, like the coil, fuse box, alternator, cruise control. I want to treat my VE CalaisV 3.6 to the same cleaning, but there's far more electronics and plastic covers to remove, so could be a big job.
Great video thanks. Never heard of using tyres foam to clean an engine, so thanks for the tip. I agree that tyre dressing stays sticky and attracts dust. Cheers.
If you want to do a quick wash of your engine have the engine running while hosing it down. It's also a good way of finding vacuum leaks by lighty spraying around the intake side. Don't worry too much about the electronics under the bonnet they are water resistant the connections have seals in them.
No way. You cover the electronics with plastic bags. Washing the engine while it's running is also a good way to crack the head, and even the manifolds.
@@DoubtingThomas333 that's only if you engine is really hot. It doesn't hurt if it has cooled down for a bit after driving and you have the engine idling while hosing it.
1 tea spoon of bi card soda mixed into 300 mls of warm water is great for removing the acid crud from battery terminal wires & posts as it's alkaline & neutralizes the acid
I was sceptical too, but the Armorall Tyre Foam worked incredibly well. If you've cleaned your engine with it, let me know your thoughts?
Hot water and baking soda work really well on the corrosion around battery terminals
barra 245t I just hit with a brass brush and throw a bit of motor oil or grease on the terminals.

Thanks Brendan gonna try it right now on my Tesla
@@boxman139haha good on ya.
@@boxman139 I'll look for a bright flash in the sky when you do.
It look great now im definitely going to be doing this on my cars
Looks great, works a treat. When are you coming by to do my Falcon?
1 tea spoon of bi card soda mixed into 300 mls of warm water is great for removing the acid crud from battery terminal wires & posts as it's alkaline & neutralizes the acid
