    The 2.8 has already proved itself in the prado and hilux, don't know why people are carrying on like it's a new motor.

      It’s a underperforming motor.

      yes I also wonder why people keep testing it as if it’s a new engine 🤦🏽‍♂️. But I also agree in the hilux it’s acceptable but in the Prado that car feels underpowered and the fact that the all new Prado will come out with the same engine with no power upgrade is a bit disappointing.. you can imagine the new Prado coming in even with a detuned v6 from the 300series pushing 250+ hp that will be a treat

    • @gavinsmith28
      @gavinsmith28 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, but the Ford V6 (as used in Discovery before) engine for example is better than a 4 cylinder in a high end vehicle like a Prado or 70 series

    I had the chance of driving the 2.8 the other day, good setup, feels like a Hilux. Would I replace my current VDJ79? No. The tuned V8 with manual gear box is fun, pulls way harder than the factory 2.8 that I drove and if I wanted an auto I’d buy a 300 series. Will this appeal to your average new 70 series buyer, definitely. Does it fix the high percentage of commercial need for staff with auto only licences, absolutely. The 2.8 auto is a great addition to the 70 series line up.

    I've just ordered the 2.8L, having had the V8 (2021). I never modded my Troopy's engine mainly as I couldn't bear replacing the clutch in a brand new vehicle and throwing away my warranty with an ECU upgrade. Maybe a modded V8 is better, but stock for stock, that 2.8L kills the V8. If it only lasts 300,000Kms instead 500,000Kms, well thats 15 years of motoring and by then I'll probably be dead anyway. Or I'll have bought a new car after ~150,000Kms. Either way I reckon it'll last long enough!

    • @nicknick7052
      @nicknick7052 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      true but you can still remapping the V8 not the 2.8L

    • @nmvi226
      @nmvi226 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      You can remap the 2.8 I’ve seen TH-camrs like Matt Dubber in south Africa has his hilux remapped and its pushing 240+ hp. the tuning ecu software and hardware allows him to select whether he wants to drive in full remap mode or just normal performance. It’s quite cool

      @@LyfovRyan51 Yep - it's super annoying that they don't fix the rear track issue. But not much else has the GVM capacity of a 79, so what else do you buy? The only other options I could find were 'small' trucks, like the Hino 300 or Fuso Canter or the little 4x4 ISUZU truck.

    Ive had 3 LC200 V8s and love them and had no issues. Im 70 and love the bigger engine over the 2.8 and Im wondering how much better is the twin turbo engine performance compared to 2.8.Having said that and its not a true comparison I would not dismiss the new 79 with the 2.8.
    Toyota are generally ahead of the curve

    It is hard to have a reasonable discussion with those, especially older people with loud shrill voices who are in denial and think that something is being "taken away from them". The world moves on; some good, some bad. The landcruiser started off with small engines and did everything asked. The new iteration will do the same. Those wedded to the past will remain so and there is nothing one can do to change their mindset

    Mmm, some reluctant improvements from Toyota but still a vehicle from the past, which some might like. Towing 3500kg regularly, I simply won't go past 240kw and 8 speeds and max of 14l/100klms, so I'll stick with my current 11 yo vehicle. A 6 speed old school auto...wow! Hope they've made them stronger.

    Lots of people are sold on Haval etc. purely based on features and looks. That’s fine for driving to the shops. What is invaluable is the fact that mechanics all over the world know Toyota inside out, spare parts will still be available even after armageddon and as the old slogan said “Everything keeps going right” Just remember, your climate control and courtesy lights are comfy, but my chassis is strong. If you find Toyota overpriced and boring, you’re shopping in the wrong aisle.

    I'm not sure how popular it will be on the land. But mining oil and gas will snap it up as so many can not drive a manual now. A six speed auto behind the v8 would make that a better car again.

      850kg in the tray
      75kg driver
      280kg towball weight
      1205kg total
      That’s well over the 1,081kg payload limit.
