  • On 15 October 2024, the FAO Liaison Office in Geneva, in collaboration with the FAO Inclusive Rural Transformation and Gender Equality Division, organized the FAO in Geneva Social Protection Dialogue Series, focusing on the human right to adequate food. This virtual event highlighted the critical role of social security in realizing this right and addressing hunger and malnutrition, featuring country case studies on effective social protection measures.
While progress has been made toward achieving SDGs 1 and 2, urgent action is needed to ensure the right to food is realized. Conflicts, instability, and economic challenges hinder this goal. To address these barriers, states must implement inclusive and equitable social protection schemes that empower individuals to feed themselves with dignity.
By adopting human rights-based approaches, countries can strengthen policies that guarantee access to adequate food for all, contributing to a fair and sustainable society.
