My fears here came from being bullied . Crushed my confidence but I'm ready more than ever. No one can shake me any more. Gotta stay prayed up. 7 yrs experience n still felt fearful in new places
This is a real wound. I pray that God will fully heal you and give your confidence that he gave you a light that will attract the right people to you. Divine connections, divine coworkers, great service.
sis..you are me and I am you 😂😂. What you’ve experienced in your 1st yr. iam currently feeling now as a new nurse. Thank you for making me feel like im not crazy for all of the challenges that i am facing. My floor is also known as the “beast” of the hospital. Im one month in and its coming along but i definitely need more experience with my skills. Labor and delivery is my end goal however im also a cardiac nurse. glad you survived your first yr. cant wait until i feel less anxious everyday
Baby nurse here - 4 weeks into orientation, it’s going well and I’ve already learned so much, thankful to still have another 5 weeks of orientation before I’m alone. I’m on a cardiac/tele floor. Definitely knowing what to say to doctors/LIPs is a little stressful but we’re getting there!
I started off as a tech for 3 years on a rehab floor, then got my LPN and worked at a mental health clinic for about a year and half. I recently transitioned to RN in 2021 and am currently 8 months in as a new floor nurse on a med surg floor and I when I first started off I felt like didn’t I know a thing about being on the floor. 😭. With more experience on the floor it gets better. My anxiety isn’t nearly as high as it was when I first started.
I start my preceptorship tomorrow and I was soooo nervous, you made me feel so much better. It helps when other people experience the same thing & fears. Thank for sharing!
Listennnnnn.... EVERYTHING you said... all the fears and challenges... is me! Im going off my 12 wk orientation soon and I'm freaking tf out! Thanks for making this video n letting me know that I'm not a complete failure 😂😭
Wow I can relate to you on that time management and asking questions that were like 🙄 duh. My main issue is nurses who wants to eat their young. Some don’t want to help or show you how things are done. Like jeez be understanding ppl you were that same new nurse once too. And Ofcourse there are those awesome nurses who take you under their wing. Stay strong.
i am 29 years old - turning 30 on January 1st. ive always wanted to be an RN IN A PSYCH WARD. ive always been interested in "why do you think that" or "what made you think that was a good idea"... cause everybody dont think the same. i believe everyone's mental is different, so i took some Psychology classes in high school. Teacher showed us a video of a woman with MPD switching &&ive been in love since. What makes each personality thrive or go and hide? Im currently a CNA but i plan to start my RN journey after my birthday. You made it sound so natural working as a RN. this gave me the push i know i needed. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR BEING YOU!! &&doing these videos. 🧿🥰😘
girl I graduate in May and all of the fears that you listed are all of the fears that I have becoming a new grad in a few months.. i just wanna know everything and the critical thinking skills!!! I just know what school has taught me and lord known that ain’t real life bc i also don’t have a medical background
This was a great video! I’m a new nurse and I feel so overwhelmed. It’s nice to know I have almost the same feelings as you. Thanks for this Shannon ❤️
Watching this video as a nurse for 2.5 years now, and yes ma’am about your first point. What gets me now is when I get caught up in conversation. My patients are talking and in the back of my mind I hear the clock ticking 😂 Like I’d love to talk more but miss thing has time to manage.
You’re so pretty 😍. I looked on Facebook too lol (but I don’t think I came across the right page.) I’m only about a month in now on a progressive care unit (not many hospitals have it but it’s like a middle floor to medsurge/ICU. You’re stating facts ! I feel like my time management is a little weak but getting better for sure !
I needed this. I’m almost one year in and finally getting my bearings. Finally not wanting to puke before work. It’s getting better. I appreciate this video so much
I am 18 years it's my first year of college majoring in nursing I really enjoyed this video it was so helpful in giving advice because I tend overthink about things as well. I also have a fear of what I don't know currently without prior experience.
I was a psych nurse for 18 months and decided to switch to acute and kept my psych job as PRN. Today is my first day of training on CVU. This video definitely helped me a lot to not be so afraid
I am a new nurse who recently started orientation on a cardiac floor. Thank you for this video and for keeping it real! I feel everything that you have described, especially feeling overwhelmed. It’s so nice to hear that I’m not alone and that this seems to be normal emotions that I’m experiencing.
I started in the CV ICU and they just switched me to the Step Down Cardiac unit yesterday and everything that you’re saying is what I’ve been experiencing being on that unit. Some things I genuinely don’t know but sometimes my preceptor made it seem like it was a problem not knowing something. She said “I was okay not knowing stuff” which was far from the truth. The critical thinking skills, all of that, I experienced 😭 so I guess this will be a good thing! I’m disappointed but I think it will be for the best!
I can relate to being afraid of being late with meds. I have been late a lot. The only way it seems I can get all my morning meds passed in time if I give myself 10 minutes in each room. I hope in the future I can fit it a more thorough assessment.
I’m a LPN but no medical background experience went straight into the RN program and graduate in Dec 2021 thank you so much for sharing I love your videos especially the traveling nurse video.. I currently live in Miami, but relocating to Georgia after I graduate and I am so excited to start this new nursing journey. Also, Congrats to you hun.
Your video really touched on how I’m feeling right now. I’m almost two months into my orientation and I’m overwhelmed, some days I want to quit and some nights I can’t even sleep because I’m thinking about work. Everyone says it’ll get better and your video proves it. Thank you
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!!!!!! Thank you for your realness. This video has given me a sense of peace of knowing that someone else has gone through everything that I am feeling now! I am 8 weeks in as graduate nurse on a trauma floor, not to mention in a whole new state. My anxiety is on a high as I’ll be on my own in 2 weeks as my orientation will be coming to an end. You’re 3 big challenges are my current challenges now. Girl!!! Time management and being super hard on myself because I care about what people think about my work ethic and reputation. Keep up the videos Queen, you are helping out a lot of people.
I needed this video! I'm only 2 months off orientation and I've have so many unstable patients lol. I anticipated having more stable people. I've been so anxious about knowing how to respond/react perfectly rather than focusing on knowing when to utilize my resources.
it was meant for me to find this video.i've been going through the same thing! Especially with my critical thinking, I feel like I am so slow at times and I'm like when am I going to get better at this :( lol thanks girl
Girl, I’m SO glad I watched your video. You remind me so much of myself. I haven’t even completed my pre-reqs yet, so I’ve been watching a LOT of videos with tips and lessons about nursing. When you said that you care about the “crazy” patients, a light bulb went off. I have considered going into Cardiac, OBGYN, ER, or OP first, and then becoming either a mental health case manager or going to get my BS in Social Work so that I can open up a preventive and post-discharge counseling facility. I’m nervous about my future as I’m currently pregnant and already have one child, so I’ve been doing as much research as I can before I commit.
Shannon, this video spoke to my soul. I’m in about week 7 of orientation. I’ve been having some really rough days internally lately. Yesterday I kept saying to myself “I don’t think I can do this”. Watching this video made me cry because it’s exactly, EXACTLY me and my experience. Down to the fact that my unit is known as the “hot mess” unit. 😭 Thank you for this positive message. ❤️
Im glad this video was helpful. We all have moments like this. Don’t worry, it gets easier. That hot mess floor you are working on is preparing you for better days ahead❣️
Thank you for this video!! I definitely needed this. I just graduated in May and will be starting my RN job in July on a cardiac unit as well! I am very similar to you in being hard on myself and wanting to know everything. It's nice to hear your experience :)
Yes the autonomy and flexibility for nursing and physician assistants are endless, and the opportunities to change specialities/departments is unmatched. I definitely agree on that statement !
New subbie! I’ve been a nurse for about a year and a half and just recently made the transition from adult medsurg to pediatric medsurg and won’t look back!!! Love the fact that you can go wherever you want with nursing! ❤️
Thank you for being so honest and for giving the best tips to new grads. I needed to hear all of this and I think you just confirmed my decision to start off on a step-down unit instead of the icu. I would rather build my confidence and my knowledge base with less critical patients than learn how to be a nurse while people's lives are on the line. I wish you the best of luck in your career!
I'm about to start working on a cardiac floor and you made me feel a lot better! I'm the same as you, I can't stand not knowing things but it's a good reminder to cut myself some slack.
I start orientation in less than a month and I’ll be working in a cardiac step-down unit. I’m super excited but also super nervous. Watching this was a big help
As a new grad during covid I can say for me a big learning experience is knowing my patients. Anything can happen and you have to know about your patient to give background for rapid response etc bedside nursing is no joke!
Yes! Such a good point. I remember my first code the beginning of the shift; only knew what I got in report. Luckily I had my preceptor, but I was like never again lol
Love mental health as well I have a B.A in psychology and wanted to be a clinical psychologist probably would go into mental health through nursing and see how that go 💕
It’s crazy that we want to do the exact same thing and feel the exact same way. Hopefully I get into this nursing program so these dreams really play out
Omg everything you said, I feel like you were reading a script of my nurse life. I work in cardiac as well but really thinking about L&D or mental health as well. Thanks for the awesome video and advice, I am six months in so gotta keep pushing.
I'm so glad I found your video. I am going thru all of these growing pains new nurses go thru. What your saying is so true. I'm at the 1 year mark and while my critical thinking has definitely improved its still not where I want to be.
Such a helpful video! I graduated in December and in the final round interviews for a new grad residency program. My original hope was to be in L&D, but unfortunately they're not hiring into that unit this time around. So I've actually been considering cardiology, since I was on a cardiology unit for a few weeks of one of my clinical rotations.
@@SincerelyShannonSubcribe Thank you! It's a pretty competitive new grad residency program here in my state. I will likely know by next week if I've gotten in, but am feeling pretty confident about it. Just want to be prepared if they ask for my preferred unit. That's a great idea for a new video as well. I'll certainly tune it for it!
Thank you so much for this! I'm starting my residency on a cardiac unit this Monday and I'm so nervous. I am so scared I won't like it because I accepted the first job offer I got, and the contract is two years. I'll definitely be watching this again after my first day!
I hate those contracts!☹ It's like a trap! When I first came across those contracts I was like I want to stay there if I want to only not because of a contract. Smh! All the experienced nurses r leaving bedside nursing for travel contracts & hospitals use this against us new grads to make sure they r staffed & not have pple coming in and out.
So glad I found your channel new subscriber 💖 I’m a new nurse and also just wanted to get my foot in the door so I’m on med surge as well but I’m passionate about L& D
You have a lot of good points. I had a horrible preceptor. I hate med surge lol. Beside is not for me but mental health is where I think I would love to be. I don't want to do bedside. Its crazy what I been through but still love nursing.
Thanks for watching. Yea, my preceptor was cool. I’m thankful for her bc I know everyone doesn’t have that luxury. I just can’t see myself doing bedside for 30 more years lol
@@SincerelyShannonSubcribe I went to TX ( before I got my license) found out in the big cities you need your BSN because of the magnet Hospital. So I think I find a place I like and stay.
@@SincerelyShannonSubcribe thanks again for this video sis. I def had a full blown anxiety attack over starting as a brand new nurse. I feel much better after watching 💕
I stumbled on your video because I am currently feeling these same emotions…primarily like I should just quit altogether. I am staring out on a Tele Unit and it’s been overwhelming. So a little background, I started as an EMT For 8 years, then LPN for 8 years in occupational health and 2 years in subacute rehab facility, I got my RN-ADN and have been for one year in the subacute rehab before I transferred to the hospital on this Tele unit. I have to say that even with my experience I feel unsure and like I made a mistake moving into the hospital. Your video gave me a little more courage to be kinder to myself.
This video is exactly what I needed. Like other people have been commenting, I feel the exact same way. I'm in week 9 of my first nursing job at a Cardiac Surgical Stepdown. The fear of the unknown feels so debilitating. You sharing this has made me feel so much better that I'm not alone. I cannot thank you enough!!
You’re so awesome! I’m a second semester nursing student now and am so excited for the future. You are so encouraging and it helps to normalize that everyone feels scared at one point and that it will get better with time :)
Thank you for making this video. I am currently in my second semester in nursing school and I am so scared of not knowing it all. Nursing school makes you feel like you need to know everything, but you are right there is no way you could know it all. They say that you really begin learning when you began working as a nurse. ❤️ Happy you are doing well after your first year❤️🥰
1. I NEVER COMMENT ON TH-cam VIDEOS BUT, My last semester of my ASN(aka ADN) program starts in two weeks. Now that the finish line is in sight, I’ve started to become more nervous than excited. Of course I haven’t had the experiences that you’ve had, because I’m still a student. However, everything that you mentioned are my anticipated fears. Like the exact words that you said are literally thoughts that run through my head. The fear of the unknown & feeling inadequate saddens me & I haven’t even made it to graduation🤦🏾♀️I hope to one day be in your shoes, telling future nurses about my experiences and encouraging them to push forward❤️ Thank you for sharing your 1st year experience!
You’re so close to the finish line, congrats! It’s okay to be nervous, I would be worried if you weren’t. You’ll be here one day! Even though this moment probably gives you anxiety, enjoy it, I know that sounds crazy! Thanks for watching🥰
Yes I am in nursing school also (3rd term) and literally have the same thoughts and feelings. Thank you for this video! It is so good to see and hear your advice. This was therapeutic honey 💕
Shannon, thank you for this video! i just started residency (day 2), and I can definitely validate those same thoughts and emotions. It just makes me continue to be kind to myself, and know its okay to not know every single thing and even feelings of being overwhelmed is okay. I also def plan to further my nursing journey and psych NP is def on top of the list
This video spoke to me lol especially when you spoke about blanking out during the COPD patient. That is totally me. I feel so stupid not thinking of basic knowledge things to do to help that I feel every nurse should know 😓 especially with no prior bedside experience before nursing, same as your experience. I kind of wish i did get some experience as a CNA or something. But this video made me feel a little better
I’m about to start my ADN in the summer. I’m the same as you just want to get in the door. I could see myself working on labor and delivery or pediatrics bc I love kids.
I don’t want to do bedside either..total patient care is not for me. I’m still on orientation so praying that I can make it to a year . I think I would be happier in l&d or post partum
I love this. I’m preparing to apply to nursing school. I’m curious do nurses eat their young? New subbie, and looking forward to following your nursing journey! I love your drapes btw, I have the same ones 😂
Shannon, thank you for this video!!!! Girl, this was needed, I'm so glad you filmed this. I'm still in nursing school and you've addressed all the fears I have, critical thinking skills, not knowing how to "nurse", being scared out of my mind, being afraid my patients will see I'm a baby nurse, and reject me...etc...How long was your orientation period? did you do a nurse residency program? If so, can you talk about that experience? thanks!
I’m glad this helped. My residency was 12 weeks. My program was just being with my preceptor that entire time. We had a few classes like IV’s and telemetry but it wasn’t real intense. I was so scared to be on my own. I was begging them to give me a few more weeks lol but they were like “ naw, time to clip those wings” lol
Hi Nurse Shannon, I am a BRAND-NEW nurse fresh out of school. I'll be working on the tele unit. So scared. Shadowed a nurse when it comes to the charting...I'm SOOO lost (and that's an understatement). I'm still trying to figure out what's the first thing to do when it comes to charting. How do I know what's the task for that one patient... I wish there were outlines when it comes to the task and charting. I wish I could see steps on what to chart step by step. Please help. NURSING is my dream job, but I am so scared and confused.
Once you figure out the charting system you will be golden. Learn what you need and remember reputation is key! I have a charting sheet that would help you organize your patients and assessments.
Thanks for this video! 💜 It was well needed for me since I'll be graduating with my BSN in December and I'm very over critical of myself and worried about how to "nurse". I actually got an externship on a cardiac/tele unit...I'm excited, nervous, and overwhelmed already and I haven't even started yet! 😅
If this doesn’t prove that the black community can be so successful and have a great career then nothing will! Congrats girl you’re doing great.
Thanks so much❣️
@@SincerelyShannonSubcribe of course!! I’m getting my ADN as well I’m super excited and loved your video
thanks , you just save me from quiting nursing.

Love mental health as well I have a B.A in psychology and wanted to be a clinical psychologist probably would go into mental health through nursing and see how that go 💕
That’s good! I can’t wait to get there. I’m really passionate about mental health.
It’s crazy that we want to do the exact same thing and feel the exact same way. Hopefully I get into this nursing program so these dreams really play out
They will and once you do, it’ll go by so quick. Wishing you the best on your journey!
Did you get in? Asking cause I’m on my way behind y’all ladies.
Omg everything you said, I feel like you were reading a script of my nurse life. I work in cardiac as well but really thinking about L&D or mental health as well. Thanks for the awesome video and advice, I am six months in so gotta keep pushing.
So glad you can relate! Wishing you well on your nursing journey! Thanks for watching 🥰
Congrats! Tele is not bad, you’ll learn a lot. I’m considering doing a tele video for all my new nurses working on the floor. Thanks for watching ❣️
Congratulations on you’re 1 year of working as a nurse 👩🏽⚕️🩺🎊🎉🎈🥳🤗👏🏾👍🏾. Great video as always
Thanks!
Sincerely Shannon You’re Welcome 🤗
So glad I found your channel new subscriber 💖 I’m a new nurse and also just wanted to get my foot in the door so I’m on med surge as well but I’m passionate about L& D
Hey! Get in the L&D if you can. Go where your passion is❣️
You have a lot of good points.
Me neither! I like the manager side. I just move to Florida last week. I did go to school here but went nowhere while I was here. Im in south Florida.
It’s too much wear & tear on the body. Oh really?! I’m here is well. Not sure how long I’ll be here though lol
@@SincerelyShannonSubcribe I went to TX ( before I got my license) found out in the big cities you need your BSN because of the magnet Hospital. So I think I find a place I like and stay.
Same here I’m going into psych nursing or labor and delivery but I’m interested in seeing about cardiac but my dream psych
Thank you! I just accepted a job offer on cardiac step down this week as a baby nurse 😬.
Congrats!
Don’t quit. Look at how far you’ve come. Learning anything new can be overwhelming. Stick it out, once you get your footing you’ll feel a lot better.
You got this! Thanks so much for watching ❣️
You are so honest and transparent. Love it! You just got a new subscriber and I felt all these things and still do lol. I just hit my two years.
❣️
They say healthy fear is good. This is a very good video ❤️
Yes! Thanks ❣️
THANK YOU FOR KEEPING IT REAL!!!
❣️
I saw your video that you failed look at you now no tears just a happy face congrats you deserve it all glory to the most high!
Thanks so much, it’s been a journey lol
You’re so awesome! I’m a second semester nursing student now and am so excited for the future. You are so encouraging and it helps to normalize that everyone feels scared at one point and that it will get better with time :)
Thank you so much!! I'm glad this video was helpful❣️
Baby nurse! Just finished precepting. Praying for sure!
You got this!
Thank you for making this video. I am currently in my second semester in nursing school and I am so scared of not knowing it all. Nursing school makes you feel like you need to know everything, but you are right there is no way you could know it all. They say that you really begin learning when you began working as a nurse. ❤️ Happy you are doing well after your first year❤️🥰
I’m glad you enjoyed it. Even when you start working you won’t know it all EVER, so don’t feel bad. Thanks for watching ❣️
youre so relatable. thank you 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
❣️
Love this video for Real...I'm in nursing school and I think about stuff like that. Thanks for sharing!🌻🙏🏽👍🏽 God Bless!
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for watching🥰
Shannon, thank you for this video! i just started residency (day 2), and I can definitely validate those same thoughts and emotions. It just makes me continue to be kind to myself, and know its okay to not know every single thing and even feelings of being overwhelmed is okay. I also def plan to further my nursing journey and psych NP is def on top of the list
Glad this video was helpful. I think we all can relate to being new to something. Thanks for watching ❣️
I’m glad you enjoyed the video ❣️
Thanks for a great video! I appreciate this as a new grad nurse.
I appreciate your candidness. Thank you!
Thanks❣️
I’m about to start my ADN in the summer. I’m the same as you just want to get in the door. I could see myself working on labor and delivery or pediatrics bc I love kids.
Those are both great options!
girl you are always spot on!
Thank you🥰
So so helpful, just started my second week as a new grad. Thanks so much for this!
Glad it was helpful!
My issue that is stopping me from nursing school is medical terminology....And tips to get over this hump
Repetition and experience, don’t like that stop you.
Thank you so much for this bc im going to college next fall to so that I can get my ADN and I really want to be a L&D or cardiac icu nurse so bad❣️
You can do it!
@@SincerelyShannonSubcribe thank you so much!
Wow love your transparency
Thanks!
I don’t want to do bedside either..total patient care is not for me. I’m still on orientation so praying that I can make it to a year . I think I would be happier in l&d or post partum
Yea go for a specialty that you’ll actually enjoy
Hey guys, Dr. Luther is the Nclex solution be it RN or PN. I just passed the Nclex RN with great help from him on my 5th attempt
Thank you so much for this video, it means a lot to me ✨
❣️
Thank you for sharing your experience .. this was so fulfilling.
❣️
Your videos are so helpful and def keep me going!
❣️
Amazing video thanks for all
tips & advice!
You're welcome
Im a nurse 7 yrs now but 6 mths in uk n this new place is beating me becuz its a whole new place but I know ill get it.
You will❣️
I have medical background and want ti start in a medsurge floor. I'm scared of have to do some nursing skills that I don't know.
Don't be scared, there will always be things you don't know. Nursing is always evolving and advancing.
I love this. I’m preparing to apply to nursing school. I’m curious do nurses eat their young? New subbie, and looking forward to following your nursing journey! I love your drapes btw, I have the same ones 😂
It’s depends. I’ve never experienced it but I’m sure it still exist. Thanks for subbing❣️
Great video!! I am not a nurse but you said it right... with experience in anything you do you will get better!!
Thanks!
You earner a subbie, you are awesome
Thanks❣️
Thank you for making this video!
❣️
Thanks for your insight and advice very much appreciated! By the way you favor KeKe Palmer : )
Thank you! 😃
Amazing talk!
❣️
Thanks for this video! 💜 It was well needed for me since I'll be graduating with my BSN in December and I'm very over critical of myself and worried about how to "nurse". I actually got an externship on a cardiac/tele unit...I'm excited, nervous, and overwhelmed already and I haven't even started yet! 😅
Congrats!!! All normal feelings! I’m sure you’ll do great! You’ll look back on be like I was worried for nothing lol
I just finished my first week on the floor as a cardiac nurse, I feels so overwhelmed already
Me tooo😩😩
@@shesstasia do you have a good preceptor or are they bouncing you around
It's normal. You'll start to feel comfortable soon!
Love your page very informative thank you
starting on a tele dec 7 so thanks for the heads up.
Congrats! Thanks for watching ❣️
