Finally a nurse who takes care of their CNA’s!!! I understand we’re all busy but chasing me down to give the patient some water or a blanket is ridiculous😂😂 I just got accepted into nursing school so I pray to God I’m a good nurse ❤️
The nurses who will chase you down or wait for you to give water/blankets and clean up after the patient should NOT be nurses. They are doing this because they feel that those tasks are below them as an RN so they would rather let their patients wait for what they need, just because they have aides to get those things. I am in my third semester and almost done. My instructors have always taught me that nothing is below me as a nurse. If a patient needs to be cleaned up and an aide is not around, then I do it. Nurses who are delegate-happy are likely just nurses for the pay and prestige, not because they are passionate.
@@TheArmedNurse I agree. But i'll also add that nurses do that for even more malicious, evil and mentally ill reasons than just that lol. As I already started, some are just evil, malicious, and mentally ill, and that's why they're doing it. Some are jealous of the aid for whatever reason. Some are resentful towards the aid for whatever reason. But ultimately, all falling under the umbrellas of Evil, malicious or mentally ill lol. Grouping and delegating saving my life cuz I had a rough week last month and baby I was like something gotta give! Being a cna made the adjustment a bit hard cuz I naturally do their job and mine without thinking. Grouping is everything for me I get up less now my feet are grateful.
Great tips. My daughter is a new RN, she will be starting her new job soon. I sent this video will be very helpful for her knowing that everyone had a first day and were able to get through it with time and preparation. God bless all you angel sent Nurses. God love's you all.
Omg. Amazing that you’ve been a nurse for just 2 years and now getting the salary you want🥳 I just passed the NCLEX and aspire to be doing travel nursing like you when I’ve gained enough experience and confidence to do so. Thank you for the guidance and for sure much motivation!💖
I am a new nurse and will be starting on the floor next week and I am freaking out. You touched on so many of the emotions i am going through right now. I'm scared , anxious, and really trying to figure out am I capable of being a good nurse.
You gave a lot of good tips for those just starting out in their nursing career. When I became a RN 22 years ago, many things were different, but some things were the same; I had to learn a lot the hard way, but being a naturally organized person was a huge help. Best wishes for your future endeavors; I've never regretted my career choice!
If I or anyone I knew was ever hospitalized I would be so happy if someone like you were on their healthcare team. You seem like a freaking AMAZING nurse!!! Love you and your channel, you seem so real and so smart too.
Girl, you just took the fear out of me! I am about to be let out of my orientation and I was scared but, you is good and just did that! Thanks sis. Now I feel like I am ready! Your fellow night shift nurse😍
Thank you for touching on delegation and asking the charge nurse for help. I'm a new grad on a step down unite with 6 patients and very overwhelmed. These tips saved me this week.
I work med surge and let me tell you… the amount of information that is given to you at one time is overwhelming. Its busy all day . I feel l like i just can’t get my time management down at all. And everyday is different.
Hello Ms Shannon....This is the MOST HELPFUL video/information I've been introduced to, so thank you, Thank you. I feel like you've literally went into my brain and pulled out all of my feelings. I'm so greatful ❤ I'm a new nurse and need help getting focused and staying on task because I'm already drowning and I don't want to continue leaving everyday crying. This is a true blessing for me to become a nurse so I want to be the best I can be for my patients. Thank you again for your help 🙏
Your exactly the type of nurse i loved to work with in my day. Thinking ahead, being prepared, not being too good to do things yourself. Keep up. The good work.
thank you! very helpful video and really put me at ease. some of my fears are: being taken advantage off such as a nurses trying to have me give my patient something and their explanation is just “the doctor already gave the okay.” i heard stories like that. not remembering my meds the side effects. how to handle a question i don’t know, or if i’m properly comforting my patient or asking the right questions to help better their care. being a burden as a new nurse/looking like a lost puppy. delegating to a cna and being challenged by them. causing sentinel events/ losing my license
Thank you sooo much for this info!! All you said was 1000% true. As a new graduate nurse, having my ears on ground is my biggest secret to understanding doc orders. Thank you sooo much, and I will love to download the brain. I need some good organization skills PLZ PLZ 😀😀
You are very correct. When it is new, there is some kind of nervousness that adds up. I remembered crying every break😀. With time comes confidence. Thanks for this video.
Omg thank you so much been an ER tech for 10+ years, LPN for 2 yrs (during COVID) had 1 month or 8 shifts LTC both right after graduation COVID vax wasn’t too bad but the LTC as a newbie was told just to keep folks alive pass meds the whole shift while being a cna didn’t want to ask anyone nor did anyone offer to help so bedside LTC I left after 1 month and stayed with vaccines; easier on my anxiety. Just graduated May 2023 new RN and took some time off but will start new job next month and so excited to say THANKS FOR YOUR TIME and education on new nurse tips because I’ve been feeling overwhelmed and stressed so Thanks I needed this video one of the Best so far. Appreciate you and I can breathe better after listening to you. Please be a preceptor to all you can help. 😊yes this one video I have subscribed
This video was so so helpful! I'm about 6 months from graduating nursing school and this is definitely the best video I've found!! Thank you so much for sharing :))
I have been working as a CNA for 3 years during school and am about to start as a new grad but can’t stop worrying about starting. Out of all the new grad videos I have been watching, this one is by far the most informative and helpful (instead of those other ones telling us new grads to buy some bs multivitamin or something 😂) so THANK YOU!!!! 🙏🏼🙏🏼
I would urge you to buy the Saunders NCLEX RN comprehensive book now.. it’s golden. My schools textbooks were too hard to digest and I didnt have the time either.. also Cathy Parkes helps A TON! Congrats & remember your WHY 🙏🏾
Best TH-cam resources that helped me: 1) Sarah RN: to help you learn the disease process and nursing care 2) Simple Nursing: to help you visualize, memorize, and better understand what you just learned 3) PLEASE listen to Mark Klimek’s lectures as soon as you can. I didn’t know this resource til later, he simplifies everything and gives great test taking strategies (would’ve helped me get better grades if I knew earlier🙃) Best of luck!!🥳
So happy I came across this video!! 🥺 I begin my nurse residency in 2 weeks and these nerves are slowly creeping up on me. 😩 But Shannon your advice has definitely given me some peace of mind! Thank you!! Definitely downloading your report sheet
i love the way you give us a picture of what’s inside and how you virtually make us feel your experiences that we may encounter those would be really helpful. i hope to have a coworker like you. you are an angel thank you for this video. might watch more from you ✨💌✨
I literally watch this video at least once each semester in nursing school!! Thank you so much, because I am so nervous about being a nurse after graduation!!!!
I agree… its ok to feel nervous and to understand that you will never know everything! Delegate- that was a big hurdle for me to overcome (and I still struggle with it) cause sometimes it’s easier to just do it. But build a rapport with your techs and things will go smoother. Time management- this will help your “nursing life” in so many ways.
ughh omg this video was literally sooo amazing! I just started my residency at a hospital and I’m on the PCU floor which is mostly COVID patients and I am freaking out. I’m so scared I can’t do it but your video made me feel like I’m not the only one that feels like that in the beginning! Thank youu! 🥰
Last night I quit my job as an Ortho nurse. I felt attacked because I started working as a new nurse May of 2021 (off orientation) but had to go on maternity leave early in beginning of July 2021. I returned from leave October 2021 PRN d/t work life balance. Long story short I’m still a new nurse but my colleagues feel that I should know everything by now because of the amount of time I’ve been working there (disregarding all the months that I was not actually working). I’m afraid to work as a nurse now. Your video actually encouraged me. I don’t think I’ll go back to that facility but I may apply elsewhere, in order to be properly trained.
Thank u so much.....this is something im dealing with so much. Thinking im going to not know something when i should. I've been a pca for like 10 years or more i oniw that job it scares me that now I'm the nurse and it all on me.
Nursing education programs don’t do their students any favors by keeping student nurses from feeling a healthy sense of being able to expand their practice when in clinical environments. Instructors breathe down students’ necks, sometimes even saying things like “don’t even go into a patient room without me”, and with clinical groups of any size over 5-6 students, how much bedside time doing clinical tasks like med administration, IV flushes, IV bag hangs and starts, etc, is each student getting? (Not to mention that so much clinical time is spent on tasks like those I mentioned instead of processes like admissions or rapid responses, or other things that come up and require a lot of attention and detail). Very little. And then suddenly we graduate, and the whole situation is flipped, and it’s like you’re the nurse now- get in there and do everything for the patient, deal with their questions and those of their families/guests, and do it professionally and with confidence… it’s like Umm, what? So much of the critical thinking, and TAKING THE TIME to critically think, as touched upon in this video, to be prepared for the shift or patient task/interaction, really isn’t addressed in school. At least it wasn’t for me. New nurses go through a big evolution in a very short time, it’s like hang on tight and hope for the best for many.
I love this video. Very thorough. I graduate in 6 weeks, currently in preceptorship and confidence is by biggest weakness. Good to know that experience is all that I need.
Thank you for this video! It was very informative and encouraging. I was recently accepted into nursing school but I'm afraid that I won't be a good nurse. I have ADHD & OCD and my time management is terrible. I tend to be very meticulous and tasks usually take me longer to complete than other people. I would greatly appreciate your input on someone with ADHD & OCD becoming a nurse. Thanks for the fantastic video!
I have adhd and a few more diagnosed mental health disorders one being closley related to ocd. Its not easy but dont let anything hold you back if you feel this is your purpose! It'll happen just trust your process & dont give up.
I think it will be an adjustment for you, but find what does & doesn’t work for you. It’s not impossible. Like Ricky said don’t let it hold you back. Congrats on getting into nursing school ❣️
You are so pretty and a role model to me. I’m at home healthcare right now and have been working in this field for 2 going on 3 years. At this point I feel like I am worth more. So I wanna step it up and go into the nursing field. I wanna be that girl in the family that’s a nurse and change my future.
I always tell new nurses I work with that there are no dumb questions. The only stupid question is one you don’t ask! Also, if you feel like something isn’t right with your patient, get another colleague to assess them. You’re not always going to know what “ain’t right” but trust your gut when it’s telling you “something ain’t right”.
Wow i know I’m off topic but you look 22 years old to me 😍! And thank you for this video becuase I’m prepping for my NCLEX and I’m lowkey nervous to get out on the field !
Omg I’m so happy I found your video. I’m not a nurse yet, I still have two more semester left but I’m doing nurse externship.. never had any health care experience before and in my first time in the hospital working as a nurse externship.. I feel like I don’t know what I’m doing most of the time. I recently started but I’m definitely learning a lot. I feel like I will still be lost when I start as a nurse. But thank you for this video and the tips and the talk you gave. So helpful 🙏 ☺️. GOD BLESS YOU
Thank you so much for this!! I'm graduating in a couple of months and although it's way to early to start freaking out I can't help it! This helped a LOT
-Man, I'm so glad I watched this video. I'm starting as a new grad on tele (nights) in two weeks and I'm nervous. This video has great tips and I appreciate you! Biggest fears include not adapting fast enough and also not feeling supported by coworkers but I'm trying not to be negative about it and hopefully I will be in a supportive environment where I can adapt and thrive.
Thank you queen. I’m a student, headed into my third term. I’m not a LPN and am a direct entry student. I am a MA but that is a totally different ballgame. I have one more clinical this week, that will be the completion of my second clinical and I won’t have another until my final term, 5th term. I can say I am confident in my classes, but not so much in my clinical as far as knowing what’s all going on. Im nervous….nervous about what I’ll be like as a new nurse post graduation. But what I can honestly say, im more nervous about orientating with nurses who don’t have my best interest at hand and showing my knowledge and that somehow I’ll be a “threat” or whatever you call it because of the book knowledge I have. As a black woman, living in a predominantly white nurse state, OHIO, im nervous that I will be “secretly” discriminated against and set up for failure. I have worked with nice nurses but I’m also very intuitive and can sense the difference that black student nurses can sometimes be treated with. Can you explain how you deal with being a black nurse and navigating a predominantly white field?
Those feelings are normal. Take it one day at a time and allow yourself to be a sponge. Pray before you go and let God take care of the rest. Don’t be afraid to ask questions or for a new preceptor also if it turns out to not be a good fit. You got this💪🏾
Thanks for this video sis. Although I have been a nurse for some time, I have never officially worked on med surg and Im so anxious about this journey 😅 but your video has helped ease a lot of the anxieties I was feeling. Its not easy starting from the bottom because a lot of nurses dont have time or want to show you anything. Its tough out here 😩
Thank you for this! I appreciate this advise because I’m that way I want to try do everything I put it on myself to hold responsibility for my schedule. ❤ asking for help is not being weak or less of a nurse than the next person. Very much appreciated of this reminder.
Not a new nurse yet but I do work in billing for a private practice...can we just talk about how cliquey the healthcare field is? Like honestly it’s so disheartening.
It depends on the facility. A lot of hospitals are very cliquey and political. I have friends who are nurses, CNAs, medical assistants, etc. I am a medical assistant myself. There is definitely politics in certain environments, especially hospitals. You just need to know how to focus on yourself and your work without getting involved in it.
Hi Shannon thank you for this video. It empowers us to overcome the challenges of being a new nurse in the facility. I’ll be working in the US soon and your perspectives gives me confidence and a sense of purpose to make difference in the lives of every patients.
Thank you for this tips and sharing your hands on practical experiences, I can relate to that feeling on the first day on the job. TBH, I listened through and learnt a lot. I had to rewind if I missed anything you said, for you to know how valuable the content is. Wishing you all the best your personal journey too. Thank you
I love this video. I am on my third week of working at a SNF. They only trained me 3 days and then gave me my own patients. I have never been so nervous in my life. I hate that I don’t know everything but like you said we are new and it will get better. Your words of encouragement mean so much to me although some nurses are not so nice even though I’m new and still haven’t gotten the giving report properly yet.
Thanks for this video!!! I'm currently taking my prerequisites for nursing, and I'm a little doubtful. I want to do a good job because caring for people is important to me 😊.
Hi you are God sent. Got this hospital job. Struggling with time management 😪. Day 3 on my own and get seem to put it together. Please be my mentor. U must be an awesome .
I can tell by your video that you’re an awesome nurse. I’m currently in nursing school and feel so overwhelmed sometimes that I wonder if this is right for me but I just keep pushing through. Hopefully I’ll be done next fall.😊
Hey Shannon, I highly acknowledge your tips and advice for new nurses. I am starting my nurse career soon and bit nervous about how I am gonna do it. I will be calm and positive about my journey. Thank you for your lovely tips. Best wishes!
Welcome to NC! I’m currently a nursing student in the Charlotte area and i work at one of the hospitals nearby. Congratulations on getting the job!! From what i heard the nurses are pretty good at orienting new nurses especially if they’re staying on the unit
Hi! I am new to your channel and just came across this video. I am a new nurse, just graduated last month and passed my nclex a few weeks ago. New grad tips are beyond helpful so thank you for sharing! I am so excited but equally as nervous, and videos like this help to ease some the anxiety! :)
This is my first day of lpn school and I am having all of those fear and anxiety. I have no experience in medical feel. I always been a childcare teacher. Thank you for your video it calms me down.
I love this , I went down your channel and started your videos from the beginning and I love to see the growth you've accomplished over the years and its looks good on you, God is good , ain't he !
Love Listening to Shannon videos. I am a recent New Nurse Graduate. Wish she was my mentor. I don’t even know where to start. This new journey is very nerve wrecking because it’s a different world to me.
Congrats on making it thru! Don’t think too deep about it. Take the journey for what it is. You’re new and learning. Use that to your advantage. You’re not going to know everything, it may take time for you to catch on and being nervous or overwhelmed is completely normal. You got this❣️
I've been a nurse 6 yrs. Worked 4 yrs on a step down unit. Now I'm in icu feeling like an idiot. On my step down unit I've been charge nurse and precepted. I just feel so anxious, it's unreal.
I am a dialysis nurse new to med/surge. This is all so very new and different. I need help with keeping up with giving meds so that they are not running into one another and I feel like all I'm doing is giving meds all day.
I think wing'ing it is key to becoming better and better at something. However intake of new knowledge and remembering it is key. But never expect to know it all.
Shannon you just gained a new subscriber. I am a second year nursing student starting September 8 and I am very interested in traveling as a nurse. You are very inspiring! Thanks for the channel ❤️
This was great information. I am in the process of getting the prerequisites needed in order to apply for a nursing program. This video was right on time. Thank you. New subscriber
Yes they definitely make it more stressful than it needs to be. Especially my one professor. She is nice but her class is like a firehose. Nobody does well on her tests either.

Grouping and delegating saving my life cuz I had a rough week last month and baby I was like something gotta give! Being a cna made the adjustment a bit hard cuz I naturally do their job and mine without thinking. Grouping is everything for me I get up less now my feet are grateful.
Yes to your feet hurting less, I completely understand lol
Great tips. My daughter is a new RN, she will be starting her new job soon. I sent this video will be very helpful for her knowing that everyone had a first day and were able to get through it with time and preparation. God bless all you angel sent Nurses. God love's you all.
Hope this helps her. Thanks for watching!
Omg. Amazing that you’ve been a nurse for just 2 years and now getting the salary you want🥳
I just passed the NCLEX and aspire to be doing travel nursing like you when I’ve gained enough experience and confidence to do so.
Thank you for the guidance and for sure much motivation!💖
Thanks for watching!
I am a new nurse and will be starting on the floor next week and I am freaking out. You touched on so many of the emotions i am going through right now. I'm scared , anxious, and really trying to figure out am I capable of being a good nurse.
You got this! Be patient with yourself ❣️
❣️
If I or anyone I knew was ever hospitalized I would be so happy if someone like you were on their healthcare team. You seem like a freaking AMAZING nurse!!! Love you and your channel, you seem so real and so smart too.
Aww thanks 🥰
Girl, you just took the fear out of me! I am about to be let out of my orientation and I was scared but, you is good and just did that! Thanks sis. Now I feel like I am ready! Your fellow night shift nurse😍
Thank you for touching on delegation and asking the charge nurse for help. I'm a new grad on a step down unite with 6 patients and very overwhelmed. These tips saved me this week.
I’m glad they helped. It will get better with time. It’ll get easier ❣️
I work med surge and let me tell you… the amount of information that is given to you at one time is overwhelming. Its busy all day . I feel l like i just can’t get my time management down at all. And everyday is different.
Yea nursing is pretty much information overload all the time 😩
Step down with 6 patients 😨 what state are you in?
I’m on stepdown in KY and have 6. Graduated May 23. 😑
Glad it was helpful 🫶🏾
Your exactly the type of nurse i loved to work with in my day. Thinking ahead, being prepared, not being too good to do things yourself. Keep up. The good work.
❣️
thank you! very helpful video and really put me at ease. some of my fears are:
being taken advantage off such as a nurses trying to have me give my patient something and their explanation is just “the doctor already gave the okay.” i heard stories like that.
not remembering my meds the side effects.
how to handle a question i don’t know, or if i’m properly comforting my patient or asking the right questions to help better their care.
being a burden as a new nurse/looking like a lost puppy.
delegating to a cna and being challenged by them.
causing sentinel events/ losing my license
You’ll do fine. Just use your common sense, ask questions and allow yourself to be a new nurse. You got this❣️
Thank you sooo much for this info!! All you said was 1000% true.
As a new graduate nurse, having my ears on ground is my biggest secret to understanding doc orders.
Thank you sooo much, and I will love to download the brain. I need some good organization skills PLZ PLZ 😀😀
Glad you found the video helpful
You are very correct. When it is new, there is some kind of nervousness that adds up. I remembered crying every break😀. With time comes confidence. Thanks for this video.
Yes, so true! Thanks for watching ❣️

Glad it was helpful!
lol at the multivitamin! You got this! Glad the video was helpful!
Shannon, truthfully, you're one of the most realest/sincere nurses I watch on TH-cam. You're name fits you very well - 'Sincerely Shannon.'
Aww thanks 🫶🏾
i start nursing school July 6th, nervous but so ready ! thanks so much ☺️
You can do it!
I didn’t know this resource til later, he simplifies everything and gives great test taking strategies (would’ve helped me get better grades if I knew earlier🙃)
Best of luck!!🥳
So happy I came across this video!! 🥺 I begin my nurse residency in 2 weeks and these nerves are slowly creeping up on me. 😩 But Shannon your advice has definitely given me some peace of mind! Thank you!! Definitely downloading your report sheet

I literally watch this video at least once each semester in nursing school!! Thank you so much, because I am so nervous about being a nurse after graduation!!!!
You got this! Thanks for watching❣️
Yes, yes & yes!
ughh omg this video was literally sooo amazing!
Do what’s best for you and don’t let anyone force you to do anything you’re not comfortable with.
New nurses go through a big evolution in a very short time, it’s like hang on tight and hope for the best for many.
yes, I agree we are not prepared to deal with being on the floor. It's a sad reality but we some how figure it out
Thank you I start LTC 3-11 I graduated 7 months ago !! But this video help clarify I am New and learning
Congrats! Glad it was helpful!

@@rickymercendetti8095 Thank you! I think it will be rough at first but hopefully I'll find the right fit for me.
I think it will be an adjustment for you, but find what does & doesn’t work for you. It’s not impossible. Like Ricky said don’t let it hold you back. Congrats on getting into nursing school ❣️
Amazing advice! I have been a tech for 3 years and appreciate alot of what you were saying in this video

You are so pretty and a role model to me. I’m at home healthcare right now and have been working in this field for 2 going on 3 years. At this point I feel like I am worth more. So I wanna step it up and go into the nursing field. I wanna be that girl in the family that’s a nurse and change my future.
🥰 thanks! Go for it!
Right! Ask all the questions no matter how simple they may seem.
Thank you! Very insightful. I start in a couple weeks as graduate nurse. 😊
Glad it was helpful!
Wow i know I’m off topic but you look 22 years old to me 😍! And thank you for this video becuase I’m prepping for my NCLEX and I’m lowkey nervous to get out on the field !

But thank you for this video and the tips and the talk you gave. So helpful 🙏 ☺️. GOD BLESS YOU

This video is extremely reassuring. Thank you girl!
Glad you found it helpful!
Its tough out here 😩
It is but you got this! You’ll be fine💕
Thank you for this! I appreciate this advise because I’m that way I want to try do everything I put it on myself to hold responsibility for my schedule. ❤ asking for help is not being weak or less of a nurse than the next person. Very much appreciated of this reminder.
Exactly right! It’s never wrong to ask all the questions. You got this!
Not a new nurse yet but I do work in billing for a private practice...can we just talk about how cliquey the healthcare field is? Like honestly it’s so disheartening.
Really? Honestly I haven't experienced that. I've grown some really solid relationships since I started nursing. 🤷🏾♀️
Maybe it’s just this particular practice 🥲🤣🤣
Yesss. You are so right. I feel like I'm in high school.
