    Well over 18 years of Parasound Halo ownership here... A21 and A51 served me flawlessly with multi channel duties until I moved back to a more purist 2 channel approach again...
    The JC5 has given such control and detail with its presentation..
    Paired with Audiovector R3 Arreté...
    Just incredible performance and construction for the cost in my experience.

    They’re really stylish, and the quality is readily apparent, 132,000 farads a channel is pretty sweet! Some of the heatsink placements on the 51 and 52 strike me as a bit inelegant, but also sensible. 2008 is a long product cycle of 14 years+? I’m not sure they’re all that cost competitive per watt of power, but like ya say maybe the faceplate and the build quality makes up for it.

      Thanks for the thoughtful feedback. Linear amplifier technology is slow moving so I am not too worried about the long refresh cycles.
      Class D is another story and Parasound hasn’t gone there yet. Linear is tried and true - Class D is for those wanted lighter more efficient models. In some instances they can finally equal or better measurements.-Jon

    Nice, detailed comparison of the Halo product line! I especially liked the top down view side by side comparison of the internal design topology and your observation on the consistency in aesthetic and design language dating back over a decade or two.
    I’m a delighted owner of the Halo A52 (silver), A23+ (silver) and the discontinued P7 (silver) 7 channel analog preamp.
    Based upon my understanding of Parasound’s history I’ll try to answer some of your questions. Parasound introduced the Halo Black Models in 2013 to meet customer requests for home theater and interior design. New versions of the multi-channel models: A52+, A31, A51 were introduced only in Black while the rest of the Halo line is available in Silver and Black. The top down photos of the Silver models are of the prior A52, A31 and A51. The + indicates an electronic design change while the A31 and A51 had mostly cosmetic changes or changes to meet new EU requirements.
    New subscriber. Cheers!

      @@ripewave Jon, you’re welcome. I’m looking forward to watching more content on your channel.
      P.S. In doing some research for my response I just learned there was a recent change in Parasound ownership with the founder, Richard Schram’s retirement. There is a link on Parasound’s web site to a press release. Cheers, Gary

    Saved the best for last. The thing is the JC5 is equivalent and better to Classe and McIntosh amps costing $12k and over.
    The Starke Sound is the only better value.

    Nice presentation... May I politely point out that the A51 was launched prior to the stipulated 2008..
    I had my silver UK unit in 2004..and lost no money when I part ex'd it toward my JC5 as soon as that was available in 2018.

    Great stuff Jon! Did you ever make a decision on the processor you want? You going to cover the Masimo leaks about Denon and Marantz??
    Looking forward to seeing more content about your purchase decisions and setting up the optimal configurations for your room and those rhythmic subs!

      Not yet. Waiting for the Fall models to be introduced. Hoping the right combination of features will finally be available. Otherwise I may need to compromise.
      Not sure Marantz is right for me but early reports of the soon to be release AV 10 is a step forward for them with Dirac and 4 subwoofer support. Price is a bit high, feature rich but how does their sound quality compare? -Jon

    • @ripewave

      Thanks for sharing. I considered putting something out, but I decided to wait for the full release before developing a video. While key enhancements and basic specs have been discussed I still have many questions. Setting the price of the AV10 at $7,000 - which is $2k above the AV8805 is aggressive. Of course I felt the same about the Anthem AV90 being 2x the cost of the AV70. Anthem and Marantz are leveraging the fact that they are delivering most than two independent subwoofers to help justify along with “better circuits”.-Jon

    Is there a typo on channels with the A 21+ in the graphics showing the machines?

    • @ripewave
      @ripewave  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes - it seems that the comparison slides with the front, back and interior photos had the wrong channel count in the amplification but not value next to the balanced connection icon was correct - thanks for catching- Jon

    Thanks for doing this video. Nice job.
    I have a pair of vintage Qln Prestige Speakers & I'm going to upgrade my Parasound P6 Preamplifier. I have narrowed my search down to 2 preamplifiers..the Parasound JC-2PB & McIntosh C49 which replaces C47. Anyone know the basic sound difference between these modern preamplifier?
    I'm presently using a McIntosh MC152 Power Amp.

    It’s interesting how the JC series amplifies are not THX certified.

    • @ripewave
      @ripewave  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They likely would all pass the certification process. My guess they made the marketing decision just to have two token models to prove they are above that benchmark.-Jon

    I love there amps just wish they had a 7ch.

    • @marcus1970
      @marcus1970 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've read of similar wishes before... I believe the answer as to why we've not seen that (and perhaps won't) is that the size, weight and heat dissipation of class A/AB all present challenges that the chassis used just can't accomodate..
      Plus having the separate chassis to provide your 7 ch needs also gives you seperate power supplies and the benefits that can offer.

    I own teh 2125 v2, how do you think that compares to the a23+?

    • @ripewave
      @ripewave  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Two amps priced about the same with similar specifications.
      The 2125 gives you the THX certification and extra binding posts. The a23+ has a longer warranty 5 vs 2 year, balanced inputs and class A operations at lower outputs. Both are good with a wide range of loads down to 2 ohm. -Jon
