Looks like you had a good time. I was just out there a couple days ago but didn't do as good as you did. It was nice to get out of town for a drive and take some videos. Camped at Lofton reservoir and had the lake to myself. I will bring my fishing poles next time. Thanks for sharing.

Oregon Fire Opal is awesome. The first time I believe I saw someone mining The Fire Opal was either Terrapin and or Outlaw Rocks. I noticed Terrapin Rocks is away from You The Tube. last, I seen of him, he was selling Fire Opals at reasonable prices, evidently when you're on a fix income and both are Disabled with medical $$$ and our Son, I must budget.
Yeah, Terrapin is a great guy. I spent the weekend working hard on his claim and hanging out with him.

Is that a hydrophilic opal? I know precious opal from that area will craze if not kept in water.
As far as I understand, this too will craze if left out of water.
The specimen I kept for my personal collection are stored in water.
Watched for a second time after seeing terapinrocks at the rock show . Looks like hard work ! What have you done with your opal you brought back ?
I donated the largest pieces to the Crater Rock Museum and then gave the rest to Rockhound Quest.
The museum really appreciated the donation but I regret giving RHQ the other material TBH.
Guess that just means I'll have to go back! haha.

@Jennifer & Tyler Biggest thing is clean up after yourself and bring PPE. Keep the pit as clean as possible and make sure others are doing the same. Make sure you've got good gloves and a pair of safety glasses. Also, make sure to bring plenty of food and water b/c you'll be burning through calories chipping away at the wall and it is really hard to stop once you've started chasing the veins. Hammers and chisels are a must. And remember to *keep the work close to your body* ; if your arms are fully extended while you work, you're going to tire yourself out.
