    An impressive performance. I've always loved the sight of a long trail of steam emanating from an engine running at speed. It's like it;s saying "Pah ! Nothing to it !"

    I know many people HATE Thompson but regardless the B1 was a great success and maybe the black 5 of the Eastern Region.
    I also like the L1 tanks, they were very good looking locos even though they weren't considered as successful as the B1s

    Just subbed, awsome isnt a word I use very often, but it certainly describes the footage of the B1 running parallel to the motorway.Hugely watchable, well done.

    Fantastic video! I wasn't sure if there was a good pacing video of her out there, but this is exactly what I was looking for! You filmed her in gorgeous countryside as well

    There's a video of a Castle charging down the exact same stretch as this. Steamers at full throttle doing what they do best is just a sight to behold. How on Earth the valve gear doesn't just implode at these speeds is beyond me. I couldn't even begin to imagine what amount of force is put upon it.

    Were we a tad over the national speed limit there? Never mind, cracking tracking shot. Well done

    Amazing video. Thank you.
    That's the 1st time I've seen Mayflower since it was in LNER Green, as a Static Exhibit, at Steamtown, Carnforth, back in the 1970's. Nice :)

    Effortless, the B1 was much underrated by any away from LNER metals

    Designed by Edward Thompson and named after the ship (Mayflower) that carried the Pilgrim fathers to America.

    now 61306 was sheded at Goole shed with a 50b shed code plate dairycoates hull
    from may 1966 to october 1966 before she was moved to low moor we got 61002 impala august 1966 to to end of steam june 1967 and she had a 50B shed code plate but did not end her days at Hull
    we have the photos of her at Goole shed in steam for her last months on BR And it would of been nice if someone had saved Impala 61002 that would of made 3 B1s in preservation
    61002 was in good condition right to the end she not long ago that she be reboiled back to her original boiler a real wast to see her go for scrap

    • @mockeyson
      @mockeyson 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      No I’m sure it was only 70mph, otherwise the film car might have been speeding......;-)

    Wait is Mayflower a 3 cylinder engine?

    • @Steelshadow104
      @Steelshadow104 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      no those were the B17s that Gresley designed, but they do look quit similar

    • @AlexKravchenko-uo3ds
      @AlexKravchenko-uo3ds 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I doubt it, as Edward Thompson was against the idea of a 3 cylinder conjugated design, as it performed poorly during the Second World War due to low level maintenance costs, and was something he and Nigel Gresley would've hotly argued over, I can tell you.

    • @martinchamberlain542
      @martinchamberlain542 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Bi was a two cylinder design. This is a wonderful film.thankyou! In their day the B1 had a reputation for rough riding at speed, but the footplate looks pretty steady here. We’ll overlook the fact that the car driver was slightly speeding!

      A non named engine in service. 'Mayflower' was the name of another B1 61379

  • @camionneur69
    @camionneur69 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Mayflower was always 61379, never understood why 61306 found it neccasary to kidnap the name!

      True enough but a brilliant machine for what she was designed to do. Collett and Churchward though, pretty hard acts to follow...

      Doesn't have to be a castle to be useful
