    I am old enough to be your grandmother, and while I've set my hair in rollers probably half a million times throughout my life, I learned quite a few tips from your video--for example, not to press the ends hard and tight against the Velcro, which is exactly what I did all this years, thinking that more "grab" was better. Thank you!

      @@lisamartin1758 For me, three main reasons: the shape of roller curls is different from that of ironed curls, and sometimes that's the look I'm after; my hair turns out way more voluminous after a roller-set; and I find using rollers and minimal-to-no heat more conducive to the health of my hair. I rarely need a deep conditioner or a "repairing mask"...because there's no damage to fix!

    I had a friend in highschool who started beauty school and she taught me how to use hair dye that wasn’t just box dye. It changed the game for me as far as colors, technique, and quality went. She explained temporary, vs semi, vs demi, vs permanent, and what developer was and how to pick the right one. She also explained what she was doing when she was sectioning and applying it to my hair. My college roommate and I never went to a salon the entire time we lived together because we just did each others hair with what I had learned from my high school friend. I think that could really help your viewers, obviously knowing that it is probably best to go to a salon but if they were choosing to do at home dye.

    This was super interesting, but I was wondering if you’d ever do a video on how to style hair for people who have androgenetic alopecia or other conditions that thin and miniaturise the hair? I’ve lost half of my hair over the last 10 years and trying to figure out how to style my hair whilst treating it gently, and not damaging it further, and what the best products and stuff are is impossible and none of the hair stylists I’ve tried seem to know what to suggest.

      Have you tried the spray hair powders, such as Style Edit? They will disguise your scalp. They come in a few colors. Also, what about increasing your estrogen by incorporating more soy in your diet with tofu and soy milk. Not sure if that would work, but seems it might counteract the androgen.

    • @LydiaM
      @LydiaM 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@merrywalsh2809 yeah, I do use them sometimes, but they’re a pain on a daily basis and if anyone touches your hair, they get the stuff on their hands. I take anti androgen pills and coincidentally eat a lot of soy. Sadly, it’s slowed the rate, but not done anything to stop it.

    • @cherokeedove
      @cherokeedove 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@LydiaM I know this is old, but I have low estradiol that I suspect has caused some hair loss, and I thought you might want to know this: Soy contains phytoestrogens that are weaker than estradiol, so if you're eating a ton of it, those phytoestrogens may be suppressing your own estradiol production while giving less of an estrogenic effect than estradiol. Many other phytoestrogens that you're likely to encounter in food are weaker than estradiol as well. If you are worried about your estradiol level and are eating more soy than the average person, you could try decreasing your soy intake for a while and see if it makes any difference. The only caveat is that if your estradiol is significantly lower than it should be for reasons unrelated to phytoestrogen intake, the phytoestrogens could be helping by replacing what's not there, but it's also possible that they're still causing problems in that situation. (But I think if your level has been suppressed by your phytoestrogen intake, it may take some time after you stop eating the problem food for it to bounce back, so having some negative effects up front might not mean you'll contain to have them----I'm not sure about this part.)
      Consuming a diet with a lot of foods that contain significant numbers of phytoestrogens is definitely not bad (a lot of very healthy foods fall into that category), and some phytoestrogens are associated with a lower risk of certain cancers, but it's something to look into if you know you're eating a lot of those foods and you have a hormonal condition that may be aggravated by low estradiol.

    Just recently decided I want to start styling my hair again instead of just a clip or a scrunchie in my hair. This video is very helpful especially since I grew up having my mom rolling my hair as a little girl. She went to cosmetology school long time ago. The advices that have been made helps with how she did it but still the basics is still there. By watching this reminded me that I do need a comb to section off the parts. When I would curl my hair with a curling iron I never understood how to get that certain kind of wave and curl I wanted. I’ve got my list of what else I need to start doing this on a given day.
    I wished I had came across your video first. I then would’ve rolled my hair differently. I started with dry hair and let it set for some time. I think I also would like to get some sponge rods as well.

    This was a very good video - so much information & helpful. Despite it being a longer youtube video - I sat and actually watched the full thing, no skipping ahead, entertaining throughout!
    I like that you broke down the reasons why you do certain things and the outcome you get from them.
    I will remember all these tips on my next roller adventure!

    Time stamps are brilliant. Thank you. I know a lot about rolling hair, have done for 33yrs, with Swisse rollers... new to velcro. So glad you were considerate. 😉🥰

    This has to be the best video on using any kind of roller and how curling works. I've watched so many over the years and been so frustrated that I can't do it right but this video explains it so clearly using common sense. I am so glad I came across this and while I struggle with hair loss and fine hair I will try it on my hair to see if it can make my hair look more voluminous and stylish. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and insights!

    I still use Velcro rollers after many, many years. Also use a curling iron on each section right before rolling. Thanks for the tips on frizzy ends. That sometimes happens to my hair. Love your video.

    I NEVER KNEW MOST OF THE RIGHT WAYS TO PUT ROLLERS! I basically learned from my grandmother and were talking about short no length hair. My hair is close to my butt. I thank you SO MUCH for all you do in helping all of us who do there hair incorrectly. 👏👏👏👏

    Wow. There are hundreds of velcro roller videos on TH-cam but the youtubers just do what works for them without letting you know much about it. This one really really makes sense. I never understood before why some people place the roller with the ends facing up while some do not in the horizontal section. Everything is clear now. Thank you!

    EXCELLENT tutorial video! I bought a set of velcro rollers several years ago but gave up when they tangled my hair and haven't used them since then. Thank you for all the great ideas for how to use them with the curling iron. I always thought you either use the curling iron OR the rollers. I didn't know how to use both and why you want to do that!

    Well miss Kayley, you are a beautiful Lass. I'll explain why I LUV you're vid. I've had pixie cuts for well over half my life time. I'm 65 now. The scamdemic made me get real comfortable with cutting my own hair. Now that I'm retired I figure why pay salons big bucks to do a bad job with my hair when I can do it myself for free! :) I am growing my hair out but want some gentle loose curl framing my aging face. I just bought a set of velcro rollers & followed your tutorial...loving the new look for me. Thank you so much dear for making this vid. May many Blessings be yours.
