Thanks for putting so much time and effort into these videos! It means a lot to me especially as someone who does not know anything about hair care or heat less curls! I really appreciate you and what you do for this community.
Also need damp hair, and you won't pull your hair out when putting them in. I have the HARDEST time trying to twist and roll my hair. That's why the mesh curlers are my most favorite. Simply clip and pull. Works so well on shorter hair that doesn't cooperate with rollers.
You should wear a silk or satin bonnet to bed anyway because it's good for your hair. And it doesn't matter what your race is or what kind of hair you have. I've been wearing one for over a week and I've been noticing a difference in my hair where it doesn't break as much and it's a lot smoother and softer. And I will never go to bed without one ever again.
I bought the pink sponge over night curlers with the wires in them!! I'm absolutely loving them. I live in a nursing home and I feel much more comfortable with myself when I look better. It was your video that encouraged me to buy to them. Thank you so much for your video!!!
You're an angel for trying all these different methods for us! Heck, I'm still trying to wrap my hair in rope! Thanks for all you do helping us stay beautiful!
I love flexi rods for doing vintage hair, i definitely recommend avoiding the really skinny ones, and generally you get the best result using one size all over your head. You get really springy curl so you gotta keep brushing!
Can second your comment!! I used the thin ones, left them overnight and in the morning.... Geeez - mum just blatantly commented that I looked like a sheep's head 😅 My hair back then was shoulder length and so it pulled up all the way thru the thin curlers.
Forget all those products! Your scarf curls are fantastic and I'm trying it tonight!!! I can't wear all those things on my head. I get migraines. Thank you thank you thank you for the scarf idea!!!!!!!!!!
Last weekend I went on a trip and I forgot to pack my curling iron and my straightening iron! I saw your tutorial on heatless sock curls so I tried it and it worked so well! I'm doing sock curls from now on.
The got progressively prettier, but they were all really pretty. I definitely wouldn't have brushed most of them out like you did, they were so pretty without brushing them!
This video somehow popped to my feed, liked it very much..! But, I have some tips to consider, I have used different sort of curlers for a long time and liked doing so. The Flexi Rods are my favourite. I use 20-30 rods for my fine hair (and little bit smaller rods, for my hair those big purple rods are too big and the curl falls out fast), and you need to think about how your hair will come out when you are rolling them. I found it helpful to study how hairdressers do perm rolls! Thinner sections and little bit more organised style. It takes longer but looks much better! Also, consider not brushing..! In the morning : I take a rod out and divide that hair section to two and gently twirl them with fingers to the direction they curl better/look nicer overall. When all are taken out, I bend over and fluff only my roots, maybe give my head little shake and done!
Thank you. I was thinking of getting those spiral curlers, but you convinced me not to bother with them. I do not want the trouble and I don’t want to lose my hair. Great video!
Great video. I was chuckling though. Brought up many, many memories of sleeping on tin can rollers and brush rollers for many years. Yup, I’m 76, grew up in the Peter, Paul, and Mary era with curly hair AND I still like my long hair but I dislike the frizzy look. I just like my thick hair long with loose curls. I’ll definitely try the robe curl method but I’ve wondered about the others. So thanks for saving me time, money, and grief.
Thank you!! I have been eyeing all of the products you tested, and your video helped me choose a path. So sorry you lost sleep and pulled out your hair in the process of making this video.
I’ve been doing your robe tie curlers since I saw the video and it’s been such a game changer! I haven’t used a curling iron on my hair in ages, and it’s comfortable to sleep in too.
I think the mistake you made was also in brushing out the curls. Coming from someone with curly hair we know to never brush curls when ur hair is dry. Maybe separate them one by one and also put a moose or curl cream in your hair while wet so that when it dries it stays a bit more. Hope this helps
I braid my hair before I go to bed at night and I only comb the underneath part because that's the part that gets Tangled the most and I don't comb the top part because I want to keep the waves and if I comb them out it'll be very frizzy
I’m also a curly girl and brushing my fingers through dry hair is definitely a no go. I have been watching vids like this to try and get ideas to help curl my friends hair for an event, and I’m just baffled at how many people brush the curls out into waves.
For flexi rods I usually tie my hair in a ponytail on top of my head and then wrap my hair around them, that way I can sleep more comfortably. They turn out really pretty in the morning, especially after I touch up the front sections with some heat.
I was so excited to try Spoolies after seeing a variation of them on Mrs. Maisel. they take FOREVER to put in and you can only use a tiny section of hair or they will pop out. so you need multiple packs to cover your entire head. SO uncomfortable to sleep in, they start to unravel, and then take FOREVER to remove! I also lost so much hair in the spoolies. wish I had never bought them!
That's so much work and a lot of bad sleep (and some hair 😬) Thank you for making this vid and keeping it real! It is so helpful to know the pros and cons of the *entire* process. I'm sticky with my long socks *and* your awesome method of hair wrapping!
If you have wave / curl in your natural hair, it will hold like that ALL DAY LONG!! I used to not brush them out until someone mentioned how ridiculous it looked
Hello . I’m about to go on my 1st cruise with my hubby 4 our 20th wedding anniversary & of course can’t take my hair dresser or my dresser full of my hair stuff 😂. Anyways I purchased like 4 different no heat curler thingys & I just wanna say this video just HELPED me a bunch .. Thanks lovely 🥰
12:15min...I'm very happy I saw this review because I almost purchased this. I need something that is easy to put on and sleep on ...since with kids and work I have no time to stylish my hair. But if that means a painful sleep...then it's a big NO...love your video! Can't believe you have toddlers! Your hair is amazing 👏
I understand everybody has “their way” and honestly the last spiral curlers are my favorite! I’ve used them for years. A different product procedure/prep would have eliminated the hair breakage/loss and to forgo the brush out. Ps- You’re so pretty!
Thank you for doing this video! Always wondered what the difference was in each and appreciate seeing the results and knowing how it was to sleep in. Might give it a try myself.
Thank You Lainey Marie for going through the pain and injury to your neck for us 😢. I bought a cheaper version of the black rope curler @ tj Maxx and I threw it away because it was made of velvet and my daughters hair clung and got knotted up while I was using it! It did come with a nice spray bottle and some scrunchies, a claw clip and a couple of hair clips. So tonight I went back to her bathrobe tie!😀 it was a easier to use without any hassles.😊
I feel your pain but thank you so much for the honest reviews! The last ones I had tried a while back and you’re right, a pain in the a*# to put in (while hair gets snarled) and potentially even worse for sleeping!
You are gorgeous no matter what! The heartless curls I like the most on you is either braids, rope curls or the headband curler on you. You pull off more of these heat less curls as well
@@LaineyMarieBeauty yeah I think you mostly pull off for heartless curls is the upside down braids. They suit you very well! Those were my favorite on you and I even learned how to do it
@@LaineyMarieBeauty have you ever thought about trying this technique! It’s like the 4 Dutch braids but you do 5 th-cam.com/video/255PXz-dG5w/w-d-xo.html

The last one, curl former, you put them in incorrectly and that is what caused the hair breakage. First, you put them in with wet hair. Second, the hook opening should be facing up. Then you pull the top of the formed over the top of the hook. At this point you gently pull the hair through. You also need to take small sections. The next morning you pinch the top open and then slide the former out. If done properly it will not damage your hair. Drives me nuts when people give a bad review because they did not use the product properly
First thanks for doing this . I had no idea what would work best for my thin super fine hair. Watching your tutorial allowed me to choose two different curler sets that worked perfectly for My hair! Two questions, Are you using a silk bonnet or hair wrap scarf while sleeping? I use the Bobby pin method and it would pull hair, bobby pins would slide out out while sleeping . Once I stared covering my head while sleeping no more issues. Secondly, specifically with the purple and pink curlers; must you have you hair freshly washed each use? Or as most heatless curlers you just need hair a little damp. Thank you 🎉🎉
Technically your hair doesn't have to be wet. Esp the tighter you do the hair, it'll last okay with dry hair. Damp-ish hair tho will make it last much longer. Dry will result in "softer" curls while damp will be a bit tighter curls.
I'm still trying to figure out flexi rods. if I wrap my hair around, it's really cute but it's also a lot more effort to get it to stay than if I were to just roll. I did find out though that if I roll my hair and really position them into rows on my head instead of the crown method, I end up with really tight curls with lots of volume
Thank you for making this video! I will be trying your rope curls with what I can find at home. I really found this video very informative and helpful.
Thank you for the review. I was considering purchasing a few of these and I won't now since I don't like lots of sleep. Going back to my braids. Will have to try the robe tie. I've been avoiding that one since there's something over top of my skull. I'll consider it.
Totally helpful! Such good information, and shown in such a clear way that I know which ones *I* wanna try! I'm so sorry for the bad ones! Thank you for sacrificing comfort and sleep in order to put this video together for us! (Thanks for saving me from several BAD choices!) 💕
Hello Lainey -- After I watched this video, you sold me on the polk a dot curlers, due to the comfort factor. I checked Amazon and Temu. When I was looking in Temu it had showed YOU demonstrating them! Crazy! Not sure how to find it it or link it I just thought you'd be interested. Love all your tutorials! Thanks for all you show us!
😧 My response to your last effort in this video. That was terrible! All that hair that came out. Thanks so much for going to all this trouble to show us the different outcomes. I think I’ve done four out of five of these but my hair is the longest it’s ever been now. Re-watching.
That was not that much hair. The American Academy of Dermatology states that it’s normal to shed between 50 and 100 hairs per day. Other sources state a larger range - in a 2009 review, researchers concluded that anywhere from 10 to 250 hairs is a fairly normal estimate for daily shedding.
For The last method, you need to make sure you hook all of the piece of hair. Especially The first one! It got really tangled because you didn’t hook all of that piece so it didn’t get pulled as one strand!
On behalf of the last test (Curlformers knockoff) I wanted to let people know some tips. 1)It gets a lot faster to do in a short amount of time. 2)I have tried both the name brand and the knockoff and much prefer the name brand. The reason is speed. With the knockoff it takes more time because they aren't open at the end. When putting 30 or so in your hair this matters. 2)A silk cap is a must have. The looser the cap around the hair the better for sleep comfort because it's easier to get them to lay flatter in a comfortable position. 3) Are they the most comfortable rollers to sleep in, no, but I got used to it quickly and the benefit of the curl result makes it worth it to me.
Are the original Curlformers (that long spiral thing where hair is inserted) better for the hair (no hair loss). Another commenter said that she thought that she used them incorrectly.
Here is the comment of the user that thought she used them incorrectly. _@carriekelosky3547 The last one, the reason you lost so much hair and had so much trouble is because you needed to face the opening of the wand the other way. I cant remember which is it but you gotta face it either up or down to get it to easily slide in._
I tried the rods too, didn’t like. I have the black set, except it is like a robe belt not round. I put them in all wrong, I was trying to remember your wrap method. I’ll try again! Back in the olden days ladies used rags to roll their hair, what goes around comes back around 😂
The 2nd to last rollers made a beautiful look in your right side (my left) The last looked great before combing! But sadly it pulled too much hair out 😫 and the back was a little flat… :/ Excellent review! Love your makeup applications! Perfect shade of lip color
This was interesting. I do have a question...why did you put oil in your hair before you out the curlers in your hair? Is it necessary to do to get hair ro curl? Thanks...
In the early 90's there was a hot roller set called Loc 'N' Roll that worked just like the Spoolies. I used those things until I wore them out. I loved them so much!
The last one, the reason you lost so much hair and had so much trouble is because you needed to face the opening of the wand the other way. I cant remember which is it but you gotta face it either up or down to get it to easily slide in
Just used hair oil for all of them. The only one that I “kind of” wet my hair is with the sticks. But my hair was still about 85% dry ❤thank you for watching!!
love how you were annoyed of the spoolies haha, thank you for confirming my indecisiveness to buy those on amazon or not and i do not like to sacrifice my sleep either
If your hair is that straight, there's a good chance you're going to have to use a staying product or the curls will fall right out in a couple hours. That's the hair I had as a kid and I'd even sleep in the old fashioned curlers with damp hair and they'd still fall out within 45 mins-2 hours. My hair just didn't want to curl. Now, my hair is starting to be naturally wavy, so it's holding waves better, but it's long and heavy so the curls still get pulled out faster than I'd like - even with product. The only time my curls ever lasted was for prom and we used a curling iron and almost 2 cans of hair spray. For shoulder length hair. Oh, I guess once in my late 20s or early 30s, I also use a ton of hairspray and a flat iron and they lasted okay for a few days, but my hair was much shorter (also shoulder length) and thus not as heavy. I tried curling mine a couple days ago and my hair is almost to my waist, and the heft of the hair itself pulled all the curl out quickly. Just a FYI - some hair just doesn't do it without a LOT of help.
As someone with natural curly hair who has tried most of these the last specially you shouldnt do them with dry hair wet your hair 1st add curling products like a leave in cream and then you can pull throw with ease. They take me less than 15m to put all 20 in my hair and i have alot of hair its also something you learn to do better the more you actually do them. Once you learn to do it properly you dont lose hair ive honestly never seen people do their curly hair dry like this. Everyone i know at least sprays it with water or something to let them dry over night or during the day also never seen plp brush the curls out this much i would separate them but not brush them cuz than your taking the curl shapes they did out in the 1st place we know u dont brush curly hair it will make it puffy. But I understand that her hair type can be done. I like how they all looked on her to be honest i was even surprised they shapes cuz she only added oil not keep it wet or more dampened.
I love the heartless curls. I just cut my hair to shoulder length and I’m having a hard time finding something that works for that length. Could you try all the methods on shoulder length hair?
I would recommend robe curls! I have a video on TH-cam that explain how to do it. Should work for your hair. May have to use something thin like a scarf ❤
SHONAGH SCOTT DOES THE ROBE BELT CURLS ALSO !! AND SHE DOES THEM BACKWARDS ( STARTS FROM THE NAPE ) AND WORKS FORWARD !! IT IS SOOO COOL AND LOTS MORE COMFY !!
I love pincurls. Easy to sleep with and, although time consuming, beautiful curls you can do a lot with after. Its heatless and beautiful and glamorous. I really recommend them. Thanks so much for all of the hard work! I didn't know all these options existed. 😳 Oh and when rolling, if you don't want the flat top with just bottom curls, don't roll from the bottom, twist around. And you lose up to 100 strands of hair a day depending on your type so its not surprising all of that was on your leg. It's normal.
This was o helpful! I know nothing about heatless curls! Not even heat curls. I need fancy hair for an event. So, this is me trying to find the best option. At the moment I have my bathrobe in my hair!
Thank you for trying these out for us!!! Which oil are you using? It looks yellow. Try to avoid certain oils (esp yellow ones), they will turn your hair brassy. They have clear ones! :)
Do you have a video of using the plastic spiral curl things that you hook your hair and pull through to the end? They were amazing from what I remember.
OK, this is so funny. Apparently I paused your video to send you that message about my favorite curling apparatus just to unpause the video to see that you had actually tested them last!!
Did you know that you can also use these as perm rods and do a perm with them ( obviously not the scarf ones or the porous ones but the spoolys and the foam ones you can put perm solution right on them if you find a look that you like! 💕🙏✂️
Your hair always looks lovely to me, even if you hated the result haha. Is there a less expensive hair oil you recommend? My overnight methods always leave my hair frizzy.
One thing that does make a difference that most people don’t realize is how you wrap the hair around the rod. Your curl pattern depends on this. The difference between a wave and a spiral. 30 yr cosmetologist.
For the flexirods. They work a lot better for people with curly hair cuts and they’re best when you treat it like curly hair with mousse and hand separating the curls.
Rag rollers (fabric scraps, old socks, or whatever) is a technique that's at least 120 years old.. It's tried and true. The difference in curls is how you roll them, or so said my grandma. She, having grown up doing them, was an expert and sadly, I remember her doing my hair once when I was about 5, and don't remember how she did it. Everything after was either those horiffic pink sponge rollers or those awful poodle perms in the 70"s. YIKES! So what you're doing is basically a braid with this weird thing. It turned out beautiful, even if you don't think it did. Spoolies for $30 when you had to pin curl the rest of your head? Why not just pin curl from the get go? It's a tried and true method from at least the 1920's. Bobby pins for a few bucks as opposed to those silicone things for WAY more. I mean, come on! Our grandmothers were resourceful because they had to be ... so ask them before paying good money for things that could be done for way less. Come on now! If you're going to lose sleep, may as well be with pin curls. Pin curls are actually more comfortable to sleep in then those Pink foam rollers, or worse, the Velcro ones, or those faux Velcro ones that require a plastic skewer to keep them in. Ugh ... the 70's was a brutal hair era.
Thanks for putting so much time and effort into these videos! It means a lot to me especially as someone who does not know anything about hair care or heat less curls! I really appreciate you and what you do for this community.

Love it because you are so real.
Thanks!
Kudos to your effort in trying out all this. Super helpful 😄
Thank you 😊
Totally helpful! Such good information, and shown in such a clear way that I know which ones *I* wanna try! I'm so sorry for the bad ones! Thank you for sacrificing comfort and sleep in order to put this video together for us! (Thanks for saving me from several BAD choices!) 💕
Yay! You’re so welcome! Thank you for watching 😊❤
Your lack of sleep is totally appreciated! Now I know what NOT to buy! You're the best!
You're so welcome!
After watching your video, I went straight to order 2 sets of those polka dots prints curler. Waiting for them to arrive❤
I love how much effort you put into your videos! Thank you so much for sharing. My favourite was the 1st! How did the curl last during the day??
Thank you so much! Lasted all day!
Thank you very much. I know it has been tediousness but we love it and we highly appreciate your effort!!
😧 My response to your last effort in this video. That was terrible! All that hair that came out. Thanks so much for going to all this trouble to show us the different outcomes. I think I’ve done four out of five of these but my hair is the longest it’s ever been now. Re-watching.
Thank you so much 💗
That was not that much hair. The American Academy of Dermatology states that it’s normal to shed between 50 and 100 hairs per day. Other sources state a larger range - in a 2009 review, researchers concluded that anywhere from 10 to 250 hairs is a fairly normal estimate for daily shedding.
👏👏👏 thanks for doing all this, sacrificing comfortable sleep and some hair!
You're so welcome! thanks for watching!!
The last set of curlers work better if your hair is damp and you have leave in spray ❤
Thanks so much! You took one for the team!
You’re welcome! Any time 😂❤
For The last method, you need to make sure you hook all of the piece of hair.

The last one, the reason you lost so much hair and had so much trouble is because you needed to face the opening of the wand the other way.
I've been wanting to try rag curls! I'm adding that to my list for 2023!
So glad you did this video! I’ve been wondering how all those work.
Thank so much for trying all this curling methods! Very useful and funny 😊
thanks for watching :)
I hope you have some video for short hair using any one of the stuff you bought. Thanks!
You have the best feedback lol
Sleep over heatless curls😆
The first ones were the best 😃
Thank you so much for watching ❤
The 2nd to last rollers made a beautiful look in your right side (my left)
The last looked great before combing! But sadly it pulled too much hair out 😫 and the back was a little flat… :/
Excellent review!
Love your makeup applications!
Perfect shade of lip color

Thank you so much 💗
This was interesting.
I do have a question...why did you put oil in your hair before you out the curlers in your hair? Is it necessary to do to get hair ro curl?
Thanks...
I think it's just a protective and to help avoid frizzies.
In the early 90's there was a hot roller set called Loc 'N' Roll that worked just like the Spoolies. I used those things until I wore them out. I loved them so much!
I still have mine from 1992!

Thanks for taking the time to show each one. Did you wet your hair or use any products before putting in the curlers?
Just used hair oil for all of them. The only one that I “kind of” wet my hair is with the sticks. But my hair was still about 85% dry ❤thank you for watching!!
love how you were annoyed of the spoolies haha, thank you for confirming my indecisiveness to buy those on amazon or not and i do not like to sacrifice my sleep either
Thanks. My hair is straight, straight, straight. I've wanted to buy curlers but did know what to chose. Thanks for the help.
@@LaineyMarieBeauty thank you!
Shirley temple type curls require a spiral roll approach with hot iron and heatless. Start on one end and carefully wraparound towards the other end.
love your side comments, especially about the spoolys...LOL
You’re right the two that you picked turned out the best, what were they called?
SHONAGH SCOTT DOES THE ROBE BELT CURLS ALSO !! AND SHE DOES THEM BACKWARDS ( STARTS FROM THE NAPE ) AND WORKS FORWARD !! IT IS SOOO COOL AND LOTS MORE COMFY !!
I love pincurls. Easy to sleep with and, although time consuming, beautiful curls you can do a lot with after. Its heatless and beautiful and glamorous. I really recommend them. Thanks so much for all of the hard work! I didn't know all these options existed. 😳
Oh and when rolling, if you don't want the flat top with just bottom curls, don't roll from the bottom, twist around. And you lose up to 100 strands of hair a day depending on your type so its not surprising all of that was on your leg. It's normal.
That’s a lot to go through. Thank you so much 🙏🏼
Love the robe one, using that definitely ❤
This was o helpful! I know nothing about heatless curls! Not even heat curls. I need fancy hair for an event. So, this is me trying to find the best option. At the moment I have my bathrobe in my hair!
I’ve been trying out so many heatLess curls this week non have worked thankyou for this. Hopefully it will help!
Thanks for watching 😊
Greetings from New Zealand.
Quick question - how long does the curl last? An hour, a couple hrs, half a day, a day?
Thank you for trying these out for us!!!
Which oil are you using? It looks yellow. Try to avoid certain oils (esp yellow ones), they will turn your hair brassy. They have clear ones! :)
Thanks for your vdo. Loving your hair so beautiful. Result looks great. I😊❤
Do you have a video of using the plastic spiral curl things that you hook your hair and pull through to the end? They were amazing from what I remember.
OK, this is so funny. Apparently I paused your video to send you that message about my favorite curling apparatus just to unpause the video to see that you had actually tested them last!!
Have you tried baby wipe curls?
Also have you tried rolling the top of your hair first?
Major kudos to you for doing this! Thank you!
Did you know that you can also use these as perm rods and do a perm with them ( obviously not the scarf ones or the porous ones but the spoolys and the foam ones you can put perm solution right on them if you find a look that you like! 💕🙏✂️
I really enjoyed your video, funny, informative, will save my money and use a scarf. Cheers from Australia
Your hair always looks lovely to me, even if you hated the result haha. Is there a less expensive hair oil you recommend? My overnight methods always leave my hair frizzy.
Awe thank you so much! I really like verb oil or Moroccan oil ❤
One thing that does make a difference that most people don’t realize is how you wrap the hair around the rod. Your curl pattern depends on this. The difference between a wave and a spiral. 30 yr cosmetologist.
Hi! I have like a collarbone length hair and i wanna have marilyn monroe-like old Hollywood hair. What would you recommend for me to use?
No matter what you did they looked great. You have great hair!
For the flexirods. They work a lot better for people with curly hair cuts and they’re best when you treat it like curly hair with mousse and hand separating the curls.
Love your Def Leppard shirt!!
Wow your hair from that old clip on IG and your hair now is night and day! ❤
Ah thank you so much!! It really was. I was not kind to my hair back then 😂❤

what do you put in your hair the night before to make sure the curls stay in all day?
Love your videos they have really helped me with doing hair thank you! Love your channel! ❤️
Thank you so much 💗
I lose ten times amount of hair in the shower every time I wash my hair than she pulled out bring those last ones😂😂
Very helpful video now I know what to avoid!
Can you make another one of these but start by wrapping them from the top-down?
This made me laugh so much. Thank you for this video.
Why oh why did I not watch this before buying too much needles stuff! 😂 thank you for this! ❤
