*Story 4:* Special needs or not, there is NO excuse to let your child engage in this type of behavior! Having a child that is special needs simply means you may need to take an atypical, slower approach to teaching them a lesson. Not parenting a kid with special needs because theyre special needs is going to do near-permanent damage. I knew a brother-sister duo who was raised like that & their family legitimately had to move out of town because their children were hated by everyone. Their eldest son tried to walk in on me undressing at a party he was not invited to, then break into my friend's car as they drove us home. And when I threatened to call the cops on him for it, he claimed I was discriminating against him.
Parenting classes should be a REQUIREMENT.

      @fdm2155 ปีที่แล้ว +26

Yeah, chances are the kid wasn't 'special needs' at all. That's just some bullshit the mom says to cover for the fact that she refuses to parent her kid. Frankly if your child can't sit quietly in a public place, you shouldn't bring them to that place. End of story. A beauty salon appointment isn't a critical need. So there's no reason to bring your poorly behaved child with you.

The kid might be "special need" like... adhd or something like this. It doesn't mean he can't be controlled. I mean, maybe by her it's true. He is at an age of testing limit. So, if he doesn't have limit anytime soon, what do you think will happen? He gonna hit again and (if he doesn't get reply equal to his) he will go further : stealing? Toutching others body? Anyway, on that "I can't controlled him", I cross my finger the mom doesn't have any weapon at home... And in the US, it's likely that some is in the house!

I work in a nursing home and one of the Activities Directors brought her 4 year old into work. We were forced to watch her as she was stealing from residents, eating other people's food and drinks, and looking through the residents' files to color over.
I put Bluey on my phone to keep her still for 15 mins. Got chewed out for "wasting time on the clock". I wanted to tell them, "You guys are always on your phones when residents need you. What wrong with monitoring a 4 year old as she's on mine?", but my best friend at work beat me to it and added that the mom should be entertaining the kid, not the Autistic Unit Aid (me) who would rather be doing her job of making up the beds and stocking linen carts as we waited for dinner to be ready to serve to the residents.
It's one thing to bring your kid when picking up our paychecks because the company doesn't believe in direct deposit, another if they are old enough to help out a bit, a completely different thing if they are a distraction from our duties.

It's not the first time someone brought their kid(s) in, but they kept an eye on them. This mom didn't for long.
That's when I put Bluey on my phone, but even that didn't hold the kid for long. Until they left, the daughter even hit residents who wouldn't give her something. Some are paralyzed or have dementia.

There are studies where the same X-ray is taken to multiple chiros and there are a bunch of different readings of it. Fact of the matter is most chiropractic schools don't teach how to correctly administer or read X-rays. That's also why they tend to administer WAY too many X-rays. People think chiros are back experts, but they are not. They are alternative medicine because they are not medicine, and they are not evidence based. This story is quite common. The last story brought back memories for me. I was 30, and like that poster, well endowed. I was walking along a quiet street, having left my husband to park the car, to go to a store on the opposite corner. Two men - probably in their 50's - were heading toward me. It was a narrow pavement and I expected to stop for them to pass or for them to step into the road. No - they divided so I had to go between them. As I did so, they both put a hand out, grabbed a breast each and laughed, saying "they're real". I was in so much shock, I ran to the shop I wanted to go to and burst into tears. My husband didn't see what they did, but did see my reaction. Sadly he had no way of finding the men or involving Police. I have never left him to park and gone ahead since.

I've dealt with people speaking for competent adult patients. It's one thing if the patient honestly doesn't know their own history or medications (you'd be amazed how common that is!), but something else entirely when the other person is stepping in to talk for them. Usually, I'm able to get them to stop by (truthfully) telling them I need the PATIENT to answer, because HOW they tell me something is as important as WHAT they tell me; it's an assessment tool. If that doesn't work, or likely won't work, I send the overbearing person to speak with another member of my crew, because "they need to get some information from you", and that lets me talk with the patient without that person present.
Only rarely have I needed to do that for minor patients - that's always risky because they're legally not able to make decisions for themselves. But sometimes I need to get the minor's story without Mom or Dad leaning over their shoulder. I'm sure you can imagine a good few reasons why.

There is a difference between "special needs" and "special" needs. One of my favorite friends in high school had spinal bifida, so was confined to a wheel chair and had other issues. Her mom was a nurse who worked odd hours sometimes, and she'd pay me to spend the night with my friend and her little sister, just so there was someone there who was old enough to know when to call for help and able to do so, not because there would be any trouble. There never was. My friend and I would have fun, play with her little sister, then life went back to usual until the next weird shift her mom needed to work. I had spent the night there before her mom's shifts got moved, so I more or less knew what to do. It was a little weird because I had never seen my friend's waste elimination bags before I started "baby sitting", but it wasn't freaky, just weird, and no one made a deal out of it, so it just seemed normal, which it was for them and just not for me. I was 14/15, I have no idea how I kept it together with all these new things, except I didn't want to let my friend down. No, I didn't become a nurse because I had some sort of enlightenment, but it did enable me to be a better friend in later years when other friends were hit with cancer and other health issues, it was no longer scary after facing what Amy went through in our teens.

Story 4 - I'm ADHD and autistic, one of my sons is ODD, ADHD and autistic, another son is ADHD and autistic - and they grew up knowing you don't run around doing what you like and hitting people.
Even if the child in that story had ODD (Oppositional Defiant Disorder), he can still learn *not* to trash the place and to *not* hit people. In his case, any "deficit" in "attention" in that story is on the part of the mother who is clearly not paying any attention to what her kid is doing. I feel sorry for that kid - his mum's a waste of oxygen and he's going to suffer the consequences for that later in life.

Seriously, letting a 2 year old roam around on their own? I'd have immediately called the police and CPS on them. That's straight up child neglect.

Story 4: Kids with special needs, like all kids, NEED rules and kind discipline, because they NEED guidance on their behaviour. Not all kids may have the capacity to remember not to hit people, but it's up to the parent/ care giver to make sure that they have plans in place should such things occur, so that the child can keep their dignity and have the best chance at being able to live in society. I've worked with adults with special needs, and they know that this kind of behaviour is unacceptable. The times they can't help it are when they have been overstimulated and that's when they lash out (Stimuli vary and can be internal or external, so not always easy to compensate for). And they ALWAYS said sorry after, because they were really sweet, kind human beings who hated that they might have hurt someone when they couldn't control themselves. They had excellent rapport with not only the staff that helped care for them, but also service staff we'd see on a daily/ weekly basis and those five minute interactions were such a big deal. It enabled them to do more. The mother is robbing her child of his chances to have positive interactions with people, instead people will grow to dread to interact with her kid, and may assume other kids that need extra help are the same.

The son with the broken back were just foolish. As a doctor you explain that is a complication of being moved. A chiropractor would not of touched him if he had taken X-rays first. Big mistake on not getting a better history.

    Story 3: NTA
The GF and Daughter were basically acting like the evil StepMother and StepSister from Cinderella! Hope the Father has some brains and breaks up with that vile, toxic witch IMMEDIATELY!
If that's how GF treats her boyfriend's own child, I can't imagine how she'd treat her if GF and OP's Dad got married!
I mean, NOT even married and yet SHE'S treating OP like CRAP!
I need an update to this story, because I REALLY want OP's Dad to break up with that witch and her Karen in Training!
    Story 6:
I would've SLAPPED the Dad AND Son Creepy Duo while SCREAMING "R*PE! R*PE! ASSAULT!! THESE CREEPS ARE TOUCHING ME!!!" just to try and get these two sexual perverts away from me!
As for the so called "Store Employees", I would've tried and asked the Manager to either retrain their employees into stopping a would be sexual assault or had them fired, because if they INSTANTLY sided with the would be molesters and not hear MY side of the story, there'd be HELL to pay!

Story 6: I know right. The fact that a young girl is holding 2 guys at bay with pepper spray while crying too hard to be coherent is a pretty clear indication that she is most likely the victim in this situation. Where was security and why didn't they restrain the pair when they tried to make their escape immediately after the girl telling them to check the store cameras?

I have to admit I was very lucky as my eldest son was found pushing his toy truck down a busy street. We had been living in an apartment that had little in the way of an enclosed area for kids to play. I had just checked on my son (I think he was between 2 and three years old at the time) and had to visit the toilet, By the time I got out there was a lady at the door who said she had caught him pushing his truck down the street. Things can happen that fast when the child is young and he was very active and could get away from me easily so I put bells on his shoes so I could find him by listening for the sound. I have to say that he had a good imagination and would play along so when I had his younger brothers in a stroller we would pretend I super glued his hand to the stroller and he would hang on until I released him. Eventually, I saw a child harness and leash that a neighbor had for her granddaughter and asked he where she got it. I got one for use with him which gave him a bit more freedom even though people would yell out that he was a child, not a dog.
The reason that my neighbor had one was that someone picked up the girl while her mother was looking through a display at the store and the guy grabbed the little girl. The child had the presence of mind to yell out this is not my daddy and a security guard stopped the guy at the door.

She’d end up saying that OP kicked the misfit out so it’s her fault. Even if she did the child isn’t OP’s responsibility. The brat needs to learn responsibility and to stay in its own yard.

I'm special needs as well. All of my disabilities/challenges aren't easily seen unless you're around me long enough to see that I can't focus on folks for long, not able to sit/stand still for long (cat laying on my lap or reading a book notwithstanding) and me enjoying to fidget with stuff. About the only other signs for me is that I'm slow on the uptake in social scenarios. My family's very responsible as well. I just can't remember most of my tantrums from when I was younger.

I've worked with kids with various special needs for decades now. Yes some of them are aggressive but we 100% teach them that it's not okay and intervene when they are becoming aggressive. I have a strong suspicion that the kid in the story doesn't actually have any special needs and the mom just can't be bothered to parent her child. My mum said when I was born and she saw how much more active I was than my older sister she had to retrain HERSELF how to parent because she knew I would need a lot more monitoring. I was wild but absolutely never hurt people. It's up to the parents to figure out the best way to teach their kid how to be a functioning human.
