This is still amazing. Ken Turner is a legend! The other singers did a great job too. Remember, the original 80s version was professionally produced...this was just a cell phone recording.
It's ok to say he couldn't quite get the lowest notes. A phone recording is easily good enough to pick up intonation issues. Hell, he was 80 and got nearly all of it flawlessly, I'm fine with him not completely nailing.
He sang a fair portion of this an octave higher than he normally does, I suspect to help the other guys find a stable tonal center. They struggled without him.

I watched on youtube the amazing version of this song done by Ken and the Crystal Rive Boys, but I think Ken was lip syncing. I knew he sometimes did that because I heard him with the James Blackwood Quartet, and when he came to his low notes he jokingly "sang" with the mike to his ear. LOL. BUT . . . in this version it was live and he hit those notes perfectly. Remarkable bass singer for sure!
There's a point where he catches his breath unexpectedly in the crystal river boys video, and as expected, his voice cuts out. Watch it closely, I don't think that performance was lip-synched
No, it was all live-it's mostly easy to tell because he doesn't immediately go into subharmonics in the last chorus as he usually does, and also because this is a church and not a big performance so it's not significant enough for playback.
Still killing it at 80 years old.

Glad to see that he's doing well since him singing the low notes to this song became viral.
Yeah, very happy to see he's going well !
Glad to see Ken is still killing it after so many years, but hot damn that Tenor NAILED it, gave me chills.
The old fellow can still can do it!!! Great bass singer. Probably the most entertaining performer ever in gospel music.

@@thatoneweasel y’all should see the guy that hit C0 to this song on his tuba
keep in mind that he's in his 80s
@@thatoneweasel I think he hit a C1 at 3:11. In an old video he also hit a C1. He can still hit those low notes since subharmonics make it way easier.
