- Redeemed Quartet presents "The Old Rugged Cross" - one of the most loved hymns of all times - filmed in the exact spot where the song was first sung by the author!
Story Behind The Song:
George Bennard was a traveling evangelist from Iowa around the turn of the century. At a revival meeting in 1912 he was interrupted, ridiculed, harassed and heckled by young people mocking the cross.
This caused George to contemplate the meaning of the cross, and strengthen his resolve to “cherish the old rugged cross”, though “despised by the world”.
Spending many hours in study, prayer and meditation, he at last could say, “I saw the Christ of the cross as if I were seeing John 3:16 leave the printed page, take form and act out the meaning of redemption.”
The beloved hymn was born out of this experience, and in 1913 was performed for the first time in its entirety at the Pokagon Methodist Episcopal Church in Pokagon, Michigan. It was HERE in the same building, 109 years later, that we filmed our version of the treasured Gospel anthem.

Cry every time I hear this song. It was the song my daughter always asked me to sing to her when she went to bed at night. Now she's in the arms of Jesus.

My daughter is also now in the safe arms of Jesus. She moved to heaven last September. We will be with Jesus and with our daughters again when it's time for us to go home.
Until then, I miss my daughter 💔every moment of everyday, until I can be there with her. What a joyous day that will be.

I was listening to this song when I was on my knees, crying for my mom’s health. I was devastated because she has cancer and wasn’t doing well at all. God talked to me through this praise, and when I opened the Bible, it was Psalms 27. God confirmed that we should just wait on Him. We still need a miracle, but now we have faith and praise while we wait! My mom is a woman who follows our Lord’s words, and I ask you to pray for her health as well. Her name is Maria Juracy and she has a serious Lymphoma.

I have listened to quartets sing Gospel music all my life. I'm no spring chicken anymore! :) I'm 84! I've heard many bass singers and many tenors that have been very good through the years. But until I heard Josh and Nate, then I found the best ones yet! Caleb and Ben fit right in there too! What a blessing you are to all of us!! I so appreciate all you do for God and your fans! Packed up the family and headed to the tiny town of Tippecanoe Indiana to hear the Redeemed Quartet. We arrived a half hour early and all the parking spots were gone. Cars started parking in the grass. We were able to get a seat, but every seat was filled in the sanctuary. Seats had to be set up out in the foyer. I feel bad for those in the foyer, because the sound was having to make it through walls and just coming out of the open doors. However, it was cool to see the place packed to its gills. Thanks Redeemed Quartet for a great night of worship and fellowship! What a blessing to be there!!!
I’m from Bremen Indiana I came across them just this morning never had heard of them I am right now in Texas but reading and finding out they were from Indiana somehow answered my prayers to where God what edge me and my kids me and my husband are going through hard time in marriage he stayed in Bremen Indiana I took my kids and moved to Texas and the past week I’ve been fasting and praying and God put in my heart that I should return to Indiana and try to save my marriage and when I came across redeemed quartet finding out they’re vídeos were made in Indiana somehow was a confirmation

My Grandfather Dewey was a golden hearted old country boy from Nelson County, Virginia. He had a beautiful grape Arbor in his yard and would daily sit in an old wooden rocking chair with a big old plug of chewing tobacco that he grew himself. As he would rock gently and chew he would hum "the Old Rugged Cross". He left and went to his Heavenly home a long time ago. I miss that gentle giant so much !!!

I met brethren from Florida, Oregon, New York, Tennessee, Wisconsin, South Carolina, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan and Indiana! What a blessed day!! Never heard them boys sound better and the Spirit was just plain beautiful! Thank You Lord!!!

I had a missionary stay in my home when I was a little boy. He was a missionary to Swaziland. He preached for 13 years before someone came to Jesus. Then the flood gates opened. His last name was Smelzenbaugh. He made a big impact on me
