      @@sabinbadea94 Since this involves sending a Clock signal (as opposed to Pitch, for example), you can achieve this without DC Coupling…
      With other signals (such as Pitch), the lack of DC Coupling gradually ‘curves’ the signal towards the 0.0 line -
      With Clock signals (crossing the 0 line mamy times per-moment), this is not noticable…
      -Try it, you’ll be surprised!

    Skip steps by using sequencer pitch to control per step tempo. Wild. I never used the tempo in. Thanks man. Opens up shorter sequences and keeps DFAM tempo control open for super high rate crazyness. That's two big doors. And I love the ableton sequence idea as clock too. Don't think I'll do it in general, but it's a good composition tool.

    Check out the MAFD (Midi Adapter for DFAM) you can play the sequence in any order using a midi track to control the steps. It does a similar trick to using the pitch where it sends pulses to skip steps.

    I know in the video he has the clock source switches set to USB, but for me that was not working, and sometimes even crashing the keystep 37 when I tried to send the MIDI to it. I switched the clock source on the back to MIDI and its functioning properly now. Worth a shot if you're having issues!

    Question, after connecting my dfam to the keystep as described. Exactly as described. The DFAM got a completely distorted signal. I unplugged everything but the DFAM still is in defect. There is no clear signal coming from the oscillators nor from the noise generator. I did check the voltage output of the keystep gate afterwards. It was on 12 V so too much. Anybody any suggestions to fix the dfam? It is not working properly anymore...

    Hey, great video. I tried doing this, but I'm having an issue where instead of the dfam responding to midi notes sent from ableton, it's advancing based on the sequence from my keystep. So basically i think when i hit play in ableton it's just starting my keystep sequence. Is this an ableton issue or keystep issue? Thanks!
    Edit: figured it out! I wasn't actually sending midi to the keystep, just synced it.

    My Keystep won't send the Gate to the DFAm. It seems to be only receiving the Clock from my DAW (wihich is btw. Reaper). The Midi-Notes from the DAW aren't transfered to the Gate-Out of the keystep, so it seems.. any workaround here?
    With an Erebus as Midi-Gate-Interface it works perfect.

    • @PeaksofValleys
      @PeaksofValleys  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Glad you got it working with the Erebus. I'm not too familiar with Reaper but a few things to check to get it working with the keystep... Check your midi hardware preferences, it might be set to send sync out vs midi out on the keystep. Also make sure the keystep is set right on the back panel, usb if using it that way, or midi if you are using a separate midi interface.

    What happens with the "sync out" of the keystep? Can't work with DFAM?

    • @PeaksofValleys
      @PeaksofValleys  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Using sync out of the keystep to the dfam adv/clock will keep it locked to the tempo of the keystep (or whatever clock the keystep is receiving) but you will not be able to do subdivisions like you can as shown in the video.

    @peakofvalleys good sir, I've clocked my DFAM to my SH01A via the Gate out on the SH01A into the ADV/Clock on the DFAM. However, whenever I press play in Ableton it feels like it's playing at halftime on the DFAM. Any ideas? For ex: recorded a jam from DFAM alone, tapped out the BPM to 140, when I went to set Ableton to 140 to create a new jam, clocked at that speed it felt much slower. Even if I move Ableton up to 150 it still doesn't feel the same. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

    • @PeaksofValleys
      @PeaksofValleys  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      a few things to check... make sure you have that midi track in Ableton sending out to the SH01A. the midi clip you are using on that track to send gate out to the DFAM will need to have 1 midi note per bar and the note needs to end before that bar is over or it won't act as a gate out to the DFAM. The DFAM tempo knob also needs to be all the way down.

    Can you make this with pitch info from ableton ? Like to be in key as well when you make a sequence

    • @PeaksofValleys
      @PeaksofValleys  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes, using the keystep as an example again you can send Gate and Pitch CV out to the DFAM Trigger and VCO 1 CV. That will get the keystep to control the DFAM like a keyboard (once you tune it). The trick to get sequences from Ableton is to set a MIDI track going out to the keystep. I use a MIDI interface for this because if I have the keystep plugged into my computer via USB it brings a lot of noise with it. But you should be able to get it done via MIDI over usb to the keystep too. Depending if you are using a midi cable or usb you'll have to adjust the back of the keystep accordingly. This sounds more complicated than it really is... at some point perhaps I'l do a video of the process.

      @@afonso_25 He means the two little switches to select what the Keystep is listening to. If you're sending midi from Ableton to the Keystep via USB, then you need to set these switches accordingly.

      @@juanmico4085 thank you, that helped since I didn't know about those switches. But I am still not able to send midi to the dfam, what's the options you choose on the midi ports and all that?

    • @juanmico4085
      @juanmico4085 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@afonso_25 I don't even own a Dfam or a Keystep. I'm just going by logic. If you set a midi track on Ableton to send notes to the Keystep, this will send gate signals to the Dfam to make the sequencer advance one step per gate received.
      Have you followed the suggestions, like setting Dfam tempo all the way down, notes to end before the end of each beat, etc?
      Try connecting the gate out from the Keystep to the Adv/Clock on the Dfam, instead of what's shown in the video. See if that works.

    I h@ve no such problem .I have got Korg monologue which have dedicated sync in and sync out output ADV/CLOCK input. This is little confusing because this output is under the row titled output, hovever it is indeed input for synchronization of DFAM to external devices.
