I worked at the Cornelius Vanderbilt estate The Breakers in Newport Rhode Island. It is a architectural wonder. It is a 75 room Italian Renaissance villa that was used only six weeks out of the year during the summer and was always referred to as a Cottage. I met The Countess who lived on the third floor and she was such a gracious woman. I believe she was Anderson Cooper's cousin or aunt. I know that The Countess had grown up in The Breakers. Working in that magnificent Villa is a job that I truly enjoyed it and look back on with fond memories.
Aidah Di Leoni does the vanderbilts still own that cottage? Like do they have full control and authority over what happens or is it partially owned by a museum or something?
Felix Qt the property belongs to the preservation historic society in Newport. They are removing the remaining family members from the top floor apartment. They have full control of the property -pretty much they lost the property to the state. No one sells a mansion for 376K. The preservation is transforming the mansion into a Welcome Center and will allow businesses in the property (corporate rental) as an extra income for this “preservation”. They removed the family saying electrical, plumbing were outdated and therefore not fit for residential. But it’s not dangerous enough to ban people from going in and out of the museum. The vanderbilt family says they have kept the third floor renovated and up to code - that the preservation is basically kicking them out.
Thank you for sharing your story with us. I truly enjoyed your experience and knowledge while having the exciting good fortune to be employed at the beautiful Breakers mansion on Newport, Rhode Island.
Why hate Anderson? He didn't control who his mother is (which, by the way, is his best friend). He's actually a very polite, funny guy. I had the pleasure of meeting him in NYC a few years back & he's a really nice guy. By the way-his dad was dirt poor growing up in Mississippi. Anderson is very humble and far from rude or arrogant. Furthermore, his mothers money isn't going to him. He has his own money.
Nicole Khamsawath you must know how of an exaggerated Reporter he is on CNN. You must know know about the pool in his other mansion in NC. The Biltmore Mansion.
Okward_Krew darling...boy, oh boy! He has changed! My opinion of him and respect for him has ALSO changed. Tremendously! If anything, you could call me anti-CNN, lol!!! 😂What a damn shame! Was an excellent reporter. Now he’s a political hack & utter disgrace!
Anyone else thrilled Anderson is a father? I never cry.... Must have been dust the night he announced it after TWO HOURS of coronavirus discussions with Dr. Gupta. What a happy shock!
My great grandfather, a Swedish immigrant, was the "watchman" for The Breakers for 30+ years. When the Vanderbilts weren't there (which was often), great grandfather would take his sons over to play pool, according to family legend.
Anderson shouldn't have to explain himself to anyone. He knows that the family money is gone, and lucky for us, he graces us with a combination of being real and goofy at the same time.
The Co-Host Judy Gold was horrible. She kept over-talking Cooper. He couldn't get a word in. She was asking him to help her get a show but she's not even capable of conducting a decent interview and allowing the interviewee to speak.
It is very unfortunate that this woman was being incredibly rude to him, kept interrupting and basically shaming him for his family history and wealth that wasn’t just given to him. He built his own brand, reputation and successful career and deserves the 3 shows.. he is a very humble, respected and kind man who didn’t deserve this kind of negativity directed at him.
Michael B Omg I know !!! Anderson NEVER talks about this aspect of his life and finally he’s telling us some interesting stuff (like his cousin still lives there) and this idiot guest keeps talking over him with her unfunny jokes.
Michael B I was going to type that! She is annoying! Then she says you had a horrible childhood. Hello his dad died when he was 10 and brother committed suicide .Love ❤️Anderson and the relationship he had with his mom... priceless!
What is amazing is that all this opulence was during the time when normal people were I bread lines. I Watched the movie while all the Vanderbilt chauffeur driven Royals Royce drove past those breadlines and little Gloria was given her own personal Royals and personal chauffeur. Pretty amazing I say.
Haven't aged too much I'm treating you abit like the LPGA listening here and sound down on the TV double shot Anderson. I think the old Mansion could be used for something pretty elequant hostel or something. Sawadee 🤠
these cottages had to be huge because the guests had maids and butlers etc. so the house had to function as a hotel; Alice Vanderbilt was very upset at the huge size of the house when she first saw it but the architect had to make it functional for entertaining
@@happyday2440 regarding possible uses for the Breakers... If you actually wished to suggest something useful to help the homeless, use your head. Changing The Breakers into a homeless shelter would only result in turning it into a money pit with no source of income... ultimately helping no one as it deteriorated. Instead, if anything, keep The Breakers as is (profitable) and require a certain percentage of the income be used to build and maintain real homeless shelters. Tourism and events would allow for a constant revenue stream. Not to mention, what is a homeless person going to do in Newport? It's wildly impractical. Would have been nice to be able to actually hear Anderson talk.
Yup, that lady there is a man eater :)
Its clear why she doesnt have 3 shows
Would have loved to hear him actually be able to finish a sentence.

His mothers house is gorgeous Anderson is such a handsome sweetie!
Sweetie? A phony
@@happyday2440 Shut up "Unhappy Day"!!!!
Stop interrupting him!!
YES! The show should have a segment on Anderson visiting his family's summer home. That would be so great!
Capitalist dogs
Dear Lord, she has the loudest voice I've ever heard!!! Let the man talk!!!
When you visit they sell Anderson’s books in the gift shop.
Still love love love Anderson Happy Pride 2021

So true. She was horrible!
building a brand and career is a lot easier with generational wealth to grease the wheels
She was soooo annoying. can u let Anderson speak?
I totally agree. I really wish I could have been there to slap the crap out of her, and tell please let Anderson talk!

WHO was the RUDE Interviwer? Consta tly interrupted Anderson, then had the audacity and poor choice to sarcastically made fun of his childhood!!!!
He is so unpretentious his mother was the same
That is what you call real class and good upbringing. There is no arrogance there.
The great grand-father of his mothers grand-father was Cornelius Vanderbilt.
Oh now I remember she was a standup comedian there ya go she’s just used to hearing herself talk Yada yada yada
AC might be the only one in the VB family in recent years to have really made it on his own.
He seems a decent person.
Judy Gold is a national treasure
I love Anderson!
Yes it would have been nice to be able to hear Anderson talk that lady kept running her mouth at the same time he's trying to talk
LOVE The Breakers. I toured there this summer and it was AMAZING.
This is Marble House
Does that woman actually know what a normal volume of speech is? Is this her "I am being a comic voice"?
She should stop interrupting! ANNOYING!
I miss this show.
I would actually be interested in hearing about the Vanderbilt history. Like how they came into the fortune (railroads, I know) and all that jazz.
They invented jazz
What a shocker!!
When Anderson Cooper is on with Kelly Ripa, he says he is from the poor side of the Vanderbilt's.
This is the house that Vanderbilt.
Come over please

why don't you do a segment tour of the house for those of us that have a hard time making it up there.
Why are they screaming like that?
Glad you noticed that too!
AC360 why do you need to have that loud mouth screaming at you I don’t get it,your way too good to let whatever her name is!
What a horrible woman!
I want to be his cousin an live on that top floor lol!
Would have been interesting if she let him speak. No wonder Americans are know for being loud with her as an example.
Americans seem to have this habit of talking over people. Not a good trait and shows that you are not listening to what anyone is saying.

The Hermitage.
And his brother died in a fall; like that other network news anchor, Chris Wallace’s brother. Amazing coincidence.

Who is this annoying woman????
I don't know, but she needs a larynx removal and a nose job - STAT!
