The state birth certificate became "law" in 1933.
Who says we are born... Who gave us life?
Nowhere does it say we need to have a birth certificate issued.
The state marriage licence became "law" in 1935.
Who says we are married... Who says two become one?
Nowhere does it say that we need a marriage license to be joined together as husband and wife.
Yet, we follow this why? Indoctrination!
The government wants money and control... hence the serial number. We are owned. We are their slaves.
They give "tax perks" so we do what they say.
The I R S is a fraud... unscriptural and unconstitutional in every way.

I think the opposite bc there is a licence for divorce in the bible then u must have a license for marriage. What will happen if ur woman decides to find other man ?, then she is not longer ur wife then? U don't need a licence for divorce and go to the next woman?
When u marry someone u submit to one onother and all of the deeds become one just like in spirit.
Also the orthodox Church claims in
      Romans 13
1Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God.
So I believe if in ur country the government states that a man and a woman are married through a certificate then its a sin to God .
And the way God intended marriage is in church and a priest I believe.

@@pitbull-ig9nm the Bible also mentions civil disobedience when the government gets out of like say when 2 people with the same parts want to be seen as married, our government is not one of God but of satan, secondary Jesus also said render onto Ceaser the things of Ceaser and God the things of God meaning the government's place is only for civil matters not ones of God, marriage is between the church and God not the government so no we don't need a government document that let's them steal more of our money. The government does NOT say that if you want to be married you HAVE to get a license. The license is only if you want the government to RECOGNIZE your marriage. Marriage is an institution created by God not the government. The vows are made to God not the government.

Yes that is correct. It is to keep record. But living together and filing separate taxes as your single is wrong. People do it everyday to get government funding and whatever else they can. It doesn't make it okay. That's why we must abide by the law. If it weren't so then we wouldn't have it set in place. If in the Bible there needed to be a letter of divorce by a higher priest then a letter or certified from a higher authority is also needed today.

@@starlynliles678 Aulani, I believe that you and your fiancée would be perfectly fine getting a marriage license.
We know from the Bible that we are to obey the law of the land and government authorities, right down to paying our taxes (Luke 20:22-25, Romans 13:1-7, Titus 3:1, 1 Peter 2:13-17). Keep in mind that these Scriptures were originally written to the Christians living under a pagan and oppressive Roman government. Unless obeying the government would directly cause you to disobey God (as when the Roman Empire began demanding that Christians sacrifice to pagan gods later in history), then you are okay in following the laws of earthly rulers.
In this case, you are not seeking a marriage license for the purpose of having a gay marriage. You would be seeking it in order to marry between a man and woman as God intended, while obeying something that the laws of your earthly authority asks you to do that does not contradict God, which is also something God wants you to do in order to live peaceably.
I hope this helped. God bless you both

I asked the woman I love to marry me, she said yes. I gave her a ring, we had a ceremony, we wrote up vows and pledged them to each other, and then had the certificate signed by witnesses. We have since had 3 kids in the last 10 years BUT because of our belief that the governments definition of marriage is far different from God's we chose not to apply for a state marriage license. The Bible does not say you have to ask the state for permission, marriage has been established by God, and it is not breaking the law to not get a marriage license so we are not defying the powers that be. If Christians are going to go down the road of saying we have to obey the powers that be (in light of Romans 13) then they have to accept gay marriage and divorce for unbiblical reasons. I certainly don't think it is wrong to get a license but I don't think it is required by God. The Bible gives clear guidelines for marriage, follow those and you're married.

God knows our hearts. If you avoid a license because you think it will make it easier to leave, etc. For you and your wife, you are probably married by "common law" anyway, if one of you wanted to leave, you would still have to go thru a legal process to divide your assets, decide custody, etc. You live as married, your intention was to be married til death, you are married.

I think Ray has missed the point on this issue. If a Christian does not _want_ to have a government contract giving them _permission_ to be married, then there is nothing wrong with that. Marriage belongs to God, not the government. It's not about how easy it is to get a license, or how much it costs. That is a straw man argument. The point is that marriage existed long, long before the government, and the government has no authority over it. And you can't drag Romans 13 into this either because the US government is not the "true authority" over a Christian anyway, because the government does not recognize ITS authority, which is God.
Also, a marriage license does not make a marriage covenant. Same-sex licenses are proof of that. Just because the government says you are married does not mean God considers you married. Conversely, you can be truly married without a government marriage license. It has NOTHING to do with fornication. It has to do with a life commitment before God to enter into the bonds of marriage with this one person, for life. People have been doing this for thousands of years without government licenses. God's rules do not change. So yes, Ray is wrong in this video.

***** It's a slippery slope with Romans 13. There are lots of governments where you can be punished just for being a Christian. Romans 13 _describes_ authorities which are legitimate. It says that they reward those who do good and punish those who do evil. If your government does the opposite, Romans 13 is not talking about them.

Quite the contrary. The state also claims the authority to allow or prohibit fundamental rights to fish, hunt, trap, even garden. In fact, although its assertion of authority to issue or deny an application for a marriage license is among the easiest to obtain, it is the most insidious and perfidious of them because it trespasses upon the very most sacred aspect of human life second only to one's individual duty to God.

States that marry pigs with men, men with men, women with women, should have no parts in a Christian marriage. My friend suggested that, to save money, it's possible to get married in the middle of a church service. Half way through the service, just say "X and Y" are getting married, and they can exchange their vows, and carry on with the service as usual, like how many churches do baptisms. Afterwards, catering (optional) can be done by subway or someone else that's relatively affordable.
I personally believe marriage licences are overrated (and possibly unnecessary), but it's definitely a good idea to do something public and before church leadership.

I feel like many people in the comments are missing the point that is being made in this video. Here is what I get. Shacking up is fornication. If you have had witnesses and exchange of vows privately, that is a marriage that God recognizes. At the same time, you need to have a marriage that is also recognized in your social setting. A Christian is Christ's ambassador, therefore, it matters whether other people besides yourself recognize your marriage as a marriage. You need to be able to say "Yes, I am married" whether that question is by a relative who would recognize your private arrangement or whether it's a government official who needs to make a determination whether or not you are a married couple in which case he would base it on a marriage certificate. Please don't be so hell-bent on defending fornication and/or being so fiercely independent that you are a terrible Christ's ambassador.
Christians who insist on being FIERCELY INDEPENDENT will struggle to follow Jesus in the way He says to follow Him. The reason David was a man after God's heart was that he was so very dependent on God. If you read the Psalms, you will see this about David. Fierce independence is such a huge problem for an American - it is the root of narcissism and feminism, both of which have no place in the kingdom of God. Humility, on the other hand, is how you become a man/woman after God's heart. Moses was the most powerful prophet and the meekest man on earth. Jesus is meek. Ponder that a while...

I believe all it takes is VOWS to get married. The government has no business making you pay for something that God offers for free.
That said, there are benefits to getting the government's papers; so I don't think there's anything wrong with getting them.

+Great Awakening Medi A VOW between a couple and GOD is indeed just that. The responsibility of caring for each other, even if they part goes with that vow, and license has no bearing on what is to be done right before God. Some judge could come along grant a divorce in a "licensed" marriage and it wont even be right before GOD if it does not match what the bible says. THIS video is kind of making the law a GOD by saying you have to fall to the courts to be told what is right before God in marital issues if ever going before court. IT may help to have legal protections...but some legal decisions are not even godly at all. VOW before GOD is the ultimate weight of what a couple is. If a couple is not rightly joined as a couple license or not, then not even GOD will accept the marriage as valid. A license does NOT make a marriage valid..GOD does.

Yes, Joyce L. A private vow is still made in the presence of God. To say that only vows made before man are binding is to put man's witness above God's witness.
That said, it is wise and prudent to have some other people present to testify to the vow, in case there's ever the need for that.

Marriage is a BOTH private AND social institution. Whatever the necessary steps are required in order for the society to officially recognize the couple as married must be taken. In any culture or language the concept of being married is clearly present. The Christian's answer to the question: "Are you married?" should be a direct "yes" or "no", not a "yes, but..." or "not really".

How I see it.... Who has the actual ability to marry a couple? Anyone can get ordained online and legally perform the ceremony but according to the Bible, that’s not the actual part of getting “married.” The marriage takes place because Gods temple is in each of us and it’s the union, the commitment, the 3 uniting together in promise that seals the marriage. Obviously, the government license is not a biblical marriage, just a state marriage legally binding the couple together. So WHO performs the marriage isn’t significant because it’s God who seals the commitment with his approval and presence in each of us. So why can a couple not look each other in the eyes and each promise to put God first, to fully love and support each other, and every other vow of importance and ask God to approve their marriage through those words???
I am not legally married. But I call him my husband. 10 years ago we promised love, commitment, and a home built with our Fathers foundation. We have 2 boys together and live our life as if we are legally married. We do plan to legalize our marriage because I want to take his name but that’s the only reason. Weddings are beautiful but it’s seen as expected in today’s world with so much focus on money. Diamonds don’t make a man a Godly husband... it’s how he provides and protects the family, it’s how he can be strong, and then when needed gentle and compassionate...it’s how he loves his wife, it’s how he raises his kids, it’s how he trusts God to guide his decisions.

a license is a request for permission from the government to get married. That started earlier in american history, when a man and woman from different ethnic groups (races wanted to marry, say a caucasian man wanted to marry a african american woman, like after the civil war ended, the man and woman had to request permission from the U.S government , the license was that request and permission. Who we marry is between the two people, the man and woman in question their families and God, it's not the governments place to have any part in that decision . People were getting married without licensees for thousands of years before this idea came out. it's a fairly modern thing. Someone can correct me if i'm mistaken

the real point is the commitment you make to each other, for life, to the exclusion of all others. The idea is to make the commitment publicly, because the society is also involved- hence the state passes laws that regulate marriage. This, by the way, is why we Christians recognize marriages done in non-church situations, says at the marriage registry, or marriages conducted outside Christianity. Making the public commitment does help the relationship to last longer. The other side of the picture is to ask why people would not want to make that commitment.

Biblical differentiation between fornication, marriage and even engagement!! Now if any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives to ALL generously and without criticizing, and it will be given to him. James1"...And so I tell you, keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you..."Luke11Proverbs2-4MARRIAGE is honorable among all, and the bed undefiled; but FORNICATORS[whoremongers] and adulterers God will judge. Hebrews13 ..Nevertheless, [to avoid] fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband. ... 9 But if they cannot contain, let them marry: for it is better to marry than to burn.Yet you say, ..1Corinthians7"For what reason?" Because the LORD has been witness Between you and the wife of your youth, With whom you have dealt treacherously; Yet she is your companion And your wife by COVENANT. Malachi2 "I don't have a husband," the woman replied. Jesus said, "You're right! You don't have a husband-- 18 for you have had five husbands, and you aren't even married to the man you're living with now. You certainly spoke the truth!"John4Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither FORNICATORS, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, 10 Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God. 11 And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God. ... 13 Meats for the belly, and the belly for meats: but God shall destroy both it and them. Now the body [is] not for FORNICATION, but for the Lord; and the Lord for the body. ... 18 FLEE FORNICATION. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body. 19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost [which is] in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? 20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.1Corinthians5-6-7 Therefore be imitators of God as dear children. 2 And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma. 3 But FORNICATION and all uncleanness or covetousness, let it not even be named among you, as is fitting for saints; ... 5 For this you know, that no fornicator, unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God. 6 Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience. 7 Therefore do not be partakers with them. 8 For you were once darkness, but now [you are] light in the Lord. Walk as children of light 9 (for the fruit of the Spirit [is] in all goodness, righteousness, and truth), 10 finding out what is acceptable to the Lord. 11 And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose [them]. 12 For it is shameful even to speak of those things which are done by them in secret. ... 15 See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, 16 redeeming the time, because the days are evil. 17 Therefore do not be unwise, but UNDERSTAND what the will of the Lord [is]. ... 21 submitting to one another in the fear of God. 22 Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. 23 For the husband is head of the wife, as also Christ is head of the church; and He is the Savior of the body. 24 Therefore, just as the church is subject to Christ, so [let] the wives [be] to their own husbands in everything. 25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her, 26 that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word, 27 that He might present her to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish. 28 So husbands ought to love their own wives as their own bodies; he who loves his wife loves himself. 29 For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as the Lord [does] the church. 30 For we are members of His body, of His flesh and of His bones. 31 "For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh."[Genesis2,Mark10,Matthew19] 32 This is a great mystery, but I speak concerning Christ and the church. 33 Nevertheless let each one of you in particular so love his own wife as himself, and let the wife [see] that she respects [her] husband.Ephesians5

Marriage is the realm of the church not the state! A marriage license is just a secular con by the government so they can tax your marriage. Here's what my fiance and I are doing, we are getting married in a church we're even having my dad who was a pastor officiate we're exchanging vows that's later on today actually, then in a couple of weeks were moving in, then we're having the huge celebration next year so we're technically getting married twice I guess you could say, and then after the big celebration ceremony next year we're going to sign a paper with the church but it's not a marriage license it's what's called a certificate of commitment and it will be recognized by the church but not the federal government.

Getting a marriage license only means that you're legally allowed to get married to your betrothed, not that you actually are married. So Christian are having sex out of marriage before the certificate so all those 'I dos' don't mean anything. So when are you married? Cause if anything happens between the 14 days to get the certificate the government has the right to revoke your marriage and technology your not married. This is huge problem cause if the church says it's when you say "I do" then why the marriage certificate anyway. Hope this helps

People in the bible got married according to the law and was able to get married against God's commandments and his will. God forbid these marriages but they did not obey God's laws. According to how two become one in the eyes of God, it goes back to the beginning and the origin of marriage. According to scripture, a wife was a gift from God. Genesis 2:18. not a product from the state or by getting a license to marry. God brought the couple together and they was husband and wife cause God made them for each other. For this reason a man is united to his wife and they become one flesh. Is no other explanation from God except that he marry's (joins) the couple together. No license required for who God joins together for this isn't a legal matter. it's a spiritual one. therefore who God joins together, let no man put asunder.

this is just so wrong and incredibly silly (commentary @11:30 and on especially).
No place in the Bible does it command a man and a woman to appeal to Caesar or any man's government to be licensed to have sex and procreate children. Also no place in the law of the land in Western civilization and even in European countries does it command or demand a man and a women to be licensed to have sex and procreate children. I can't believe 'Living Waters' is even discussing this.
Today, the church has to realize it is NOT fornication for two people to be united under God without a Government marriage licence. In Biblical times, marriage was done with the family's as witnesses and no one had to appeal to Caesar to do it. Yes there was a marriage celebration with family and friends, but the Bride and Groom didn't pay the governors of the land for licence to be married. As a matter of fact - today the Governments of USA and Canada are issuing unholy licences with same sex couples and, some Christians make the case that: because of this it is proper and righteous for heterosexual couples to shun that unholy marriage arrangement done by government. Personally I say - if same sex couples want the government to licence their union, go for it, I really don't care for 'Government marriage licencing' has nothing to do with the Jewish/Christian faith of holy matrimony under our LORD God. The fact remains: the Christian community is under NO LAW either in the Bible nor from Government to pay for a licence to be considered legally married. Currently there is a movement in Western Governments to get rid of the marriage licencing altogether. Saying this - I can't help but think Living Waters is not being honest with their viewers. They are wrong to claim anyone is committing fornication without a Gov licence. How dare they condemn that what they have no knowledge of? A piece of paper issued by the government is not a guard against fornication! I'm shocked they are taking this stand.
Another point is, Living Waters may be the ones promoting sin by encouraging couples to have a third party come between the couple's union. Consider: Government Marriage licences are a THIRD Party in the marriage, they become part of the union and have a legal say in the marriage and all the proceeds thereof, including the children. Those who have a Government marriage licence have not been two flesh joined together as one by God, they are two joined together with government agencies, many other men and women. The couple is not free from entanglements with this world - they have allowed themselves to become joined with entanglements - they actually willfully do this and even pay to have it. I've actually had Christians tell me their conscious views this as paying for a harlot to enjoin the marriage. Considering God calls Babylon the Mother of harlots... I can see their point! Christians can consider the third party Government as having an Adulterous marriage that is not joined together under God but under men. Just google this information and inform yourself.
After listening to this, I can't help but view Living Waters has now become an agent of the Government. And I say all this with myself being married 30 years with a government licence. But times have changed, and its no longer a righteous way of God to be yoked with the governments of the world.

There is no command in the bible to call Jesus only by a certain language as He is known by a different translation in many different countries so to say it is a false deity by any name but Jesus is incorrect. The important thing is to know He is the Messiah and Lord and Savior of mankind, regardless of the language used in which to say this. Thank you for your correction on my assumption. To be considered legally married according to the government of Canada, you must have a license or wait 3 years for common law status to begin.
Mark 12:17 states to render unto Caesar what is Caesar's in reference to taxation. We are to be blameless so why wouldn't we adhere to the laws of the land?
Romans 13 discusses the importance of obeying the laws of the land as well. If you are not considered married according to the government then you are not considered married. Period. Unless you're suggesting people live in sin until they reach the 3 year mark to be considered married under common law. I would say this is a bad idea and would result in fornication. Can you provide any scriptures to back up your claims about marriage and obeying the law?

When the same people who issue marriage license do so to gay couples and to divorced people what value does that license have? You might as well get a marriage license from a clown passing them out on the street. I say the authority to marry people is illegitimate when this occurs. In my state and county they give marriage licenses to divorced people and to gay couples and in one instance, as an unsubstantiated rumor has it, to a threesome. In this moral desert island it seems to me a christian couple has no choice but to give themselves the license to marry. (Where 2 or three are gathered in my name...). No, a marriage license is not needed to be married if both people made a commitment to each other thru God. The thing is, if you are truly committed to this person, wouldn't you want to offer as much security as possible? Wouldn't you want to pronounce to others that you have made a commitment to this person? A marriage license does this. Because it is a lawful paper, it secures certain rights for the people and makes the marriage visible to all.

The big question is, what is God saying, not what did He say, because we are in a living relationship with God that speaks today. Many stories in the bible have shown that what God said is only absolute if He doesn't say something new. Point being He is God, and He can say something new.
Your situation doesn't seem fair, and doesn't seem like God's heart, but only you can discern what Holy Spirits leading is in your circumstance, because it's your personal relationship with Him.
Me personally, I am in the exactly same situation, except we are not married, and are together because of our child. In my conviction I have chosen to live under the same roof without fornicating any further or sharing a bed. But the question is how long can it be sustainable, and in an unequally yoked relationship, it could take a lifetime, and that's the sacrifice we make for the Love of God to be revealed. But imagining a life where I don't have true relationship with my child, and the influence of 'family' on her, seems too unjust than following some rule, which as can be seen in your case, doesn't guarantee a favorable outcome anyway.
I pray that your circumstances will be redeemed, and that God will give you the authority and rightful place in your families lives.

People need to get this right. We are going to face the good Lord sooner or later and He MAY just spew you out of his mouth if your not getting the big picture. It's something to pray about and seek understanding. It's a serious thing to fall under adultery or fornication.

What about a Commitment Service? Men and women who don’t want to be “shaking up” but if they marry the wife loses everything. This is something I have heard seniors are doing. I am a widow. Technically I cannot remarry if we are discussing “the eyes of the law.” I’m on social security but I also have an annuity from my husband’s 20 years in the military. I still have my health insurance, dental and eye insurance. If I marry I would lose my annuity (even though we paid for it), I would lose my health insurance, dental and eye. I would be left with Social Security only. Seniors who have different kinds of incomes, assets, their will , are doing a commitment service. They have a certificate but their “marriage” is not recognized by the state. They can have a ceremony if they want, the whole works. They recite vows, something they write on their own and it can be before a minister or not. There is a position now of “celebrant.” It is a person who will officiate your service. IDK if that person would sign a certificate or not. BTW, you can print out a certificate online I believe.

My question is why should I get a license for something that is rightfully for me to do? If I get the state involved now the government is the head of my marriage and the fruit of it as well. And you who if you are a pastor or have been certified by your state to marry people are now an agent for the state. I’m married to my wonderful wife through two witnesses in front of family and friends. We did our own legal paperwork that we did about what we both will do and expect from each other scripturally and humanly and if we divorce we will handle it between the both of us with who gets what and what goes where and got it notarized no courts no government involvement. No where in scripture does it talk about getting a certificate or license to get married by state you live in as a matter of fact it’s roots is racial. It was invented so that the white women don’t have babies with black men. And to not seem that the government is hateful then they changed it to how it has benefits and made it into a money maker but still enslaving the man with a burden of loosing everything paying child support and possibly alimony all the while you have to pay for your own living expenses while another man slips into it. Men don’t sign or get a marriage certificate have a ceremony and honor God that way and make vows to each other because in reality it’s really to God that you vow to honor, cherish, etc., each other. And truly God is the head of the the marriage and not the government.

Some of us aren't legally married because we can't afford the monetary implications of it afterwards. Not the marriage license itself. Mainly, health insurance. I know of couples that have even had to be legally divorced because of health insurance issues not being able to receive financial help with a medical crisis such as cancer. But the friends and family as well as the couples refer to each other as husband and wife and feel God knows their hearts, minds, and souls. To what would your response be to these real problems? Are people to have a marriage license only for one to pass away due to no medical assistance? This is very concerning.

  • @lorayakol226

The thing is... You can be married WITHOUT a marriage license in the eyes of God...the paper itself DOES NOT "make you married."
We as followers of Christ are to obey the laws of the land & if you are somewhere that the law requires you to have a marriage license that says that you are LEGALLY married...they we are to get it, so that we are not disobeying the Word of God which says to obey the laws of the land...period.
Getting the license DOES NOT go against scripture, it is not causing one to sin in getting it.
However, to be very clear... God recognizes the marriage with or without a license, because you & your spouse have taken vows & entered into a COVENANT (not a contract) with not only your spouse...but God.
This is one reason God hates Divorce.
In short...you are to get the license in order to obey the laws of the land like the Bible says.
Know Also, that the reason for the license has NOTHING to do with the vows or covenant...it is for legal purposes only...this is why homosexuals can get married in some places...they are not married in God eyes...but LEGALLY they are in the world...God does not recognize the marriage, nor does He honor it.
So, anyone can get married & show a piece of paper to say so...but that doesn't mean they are married in Gods eyes. There were no "licenses" to marry back in biblical times...but divorce "papers" because of the hard hearts...it is not God will (divorce)
When a man & woman who has never been married before (1st) time...and they go say...to a church or elope & get married before God... BEFORE they get the license...when they do that .. THEY ARE THEN MARRIED....(before they get the license) having the license does not make them married. EVEN IF THEY NEVER GOT IT....they would STILL be married in Gods eyes...but they would be being disobedient by not getting it, if where they are required it.

The question is how does God make covenants? Right. He never makes covenants and getting approval with the authorities. Never. He works alone. Marriage is a secret and covenant agreement with you and your spouse through faith. Believe in the Lord and you’ll never need to make it “official” from authorities. Everyone is deceived by what our ancestors have passed down and we start to believe that “writing on a paper” makes it official. Wrong. It says in the Bible, when the farmer goes to sleep the devil comes and plants his seed among his crops. Ok.
The thing to look into is Christ and the church resembles a marriage. Does it say anything about getting government approval makes us official to Christ? No. So there’s your answer.
People talk about Romans 13:1 Submission to Government Authorities. This doesn’t mean follow their customs, it talks about following common laws, “For the one in authority is God’s servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for rulers do not bear the sword for no reason. They are God’s servants, agents of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer.”
    ‭‭Romans‬ ‭13‬:‭4‬
Again, authorities do not force us to be married and write on a piece of paper. Going against the laws breaking laws they will punish us, “for the rulers do not bear the sword for no reason”. Do we get punished by the sword for not marrying by legal papers. Nope.
Keep Gods word alive inside each of you. Study and have faith by obeying his commands. The true connection us the church.
    Amen!

      Hi.
I know the question is 3 yrs old but I will try to give an answer, to bless somebody in that same temptation.
Here is what the Bible says in 2 Thess 5v22 .
When you live under a same roof with someone of opposite gender, you give occasion to The ennemies of the Gospel to blaspheme.
Secondly, you give yourself into temptation you will eventually fall into, and sin again God, the girl and yourself.
Thirthly, when living like that, you are action like a thief, trying to enjoy the advantages of marriage before time.
So, it's no wise at all to expose yourself to fornication, knowing that fornication is not only *sleep*, but also touching, kissing, looking with lust.
God bless and strengthen everyone of us. May He keeps us away from Sin, in Jesus name.

The government has no business in the marriage business. Initially, marriage was the coming together of man and woman and government didn't (and shouldn't) have anything to do with it. God spoke to me that the stamp of approval is being passed off without God's permission. We are supposed to pray and ask God if this person is for you. Society has taken God out of the equation but pass it off as God's approval. Marriage has become a state institution not an institution of God.

My opinion is the bible is clear on what is required to live according to God, mariage license isn't one of them in fact there isn't a sigle example in the Bible. The states has requirements (mandatory) to live legally alone or with your spouse, civil mariage isn't one of them either. There are possibilities procedures to be recognized by the state for obvious legal and tax purposes but it isn't a sin that you are not able to do certain things because you have no license. You can fulfil your vows to your spouse and God with no legal recognition.

This does fall under what is a Marriage? In the purest biblical sense a Marriage is a life term commitment between God, a man, and woman to stay together and do God's will. A ring signifies it, a paper certifies it, and a wedding celebrates it. We don't see all three with Adam and Eve, but his poem was arguably a celebration and everything was before God. We know the church will join the Wedding of the Lamb, so they are established.

I believe John 4:17,18 is highly instructive:
Jesus said to her, “You are right in saying, ‘I have no husband’; for you have had five husbands, and the one you now have is not your husband. What you have said is true.” John 4:17-18 (ESV)
The woman married 5 times. Then with the 6th, she didn't bother with the legal formality.
Each culture has its formalities that recognize marriage. In the USA, it is a marriage certificate.

So you want Christians to tell the government they need the state to handle all of their affairs and give all ownership/custody of the fruits of their marriage away to the state? That's exactly what people are doing by obtaining a marriage license and certificate from the US government.

when Jesus returns for his Bride should we check to see if he has applied for marriage License. most cultures require the Man to ask the brides father for her hand. So would Jesus have to ask my Father in Heaven for our Hand?. I disagree Lucas and starwars is just another Golden calf in modern times

For real and if we have to have a marriage license then so does he, he can't be a hypocrite after all. Actually he doesn't have to have one because they're not really required, that's what man says not God

The person who refuses to marry doesn't enter into that covenant. Those that say 'married in Gods eyes' is not in agreement that is a bond for life. To enter into a life long bond (un breakable commitment) there needs to be a ceremony with witnesses thus making it official as husband and wife.

What would you say to a person that has a legal state marriage to someone else other then the man she is living with and calls her husband. She claims that she can't find her former husband who she's lived apart from for many years. She believes in God's eyes he excepts her present relationship as a marriage .

Adam and Eve didn't have a marriage license. That said, what's stopping you from getting married by the laws of your country/state? It's true you can be spiritually married and not legally married, but why would you want to be? Go all the way if you're really marrying someone. No fancy expensive wedding or rings needed, just do it.

The Bible says we need to follow the law, so long as it does not go against God.
A marriage license does not go against the will of God, so yes, you should be properly married.
If the government ever makes you choose between them and God in the act of marriage (which at the moment it does NOT) then you should STILL have a document and witnesses in your local church.
And yes, the ancient Jews did have an official marriage document that was required for the entirety of the marriage. It was the ketubah.
