    About the Project:
Join me as we create a map rich with natural beauties, distant towns and a bustling metropolis. The aim is to create an island that feels as big as a state or territory, including vast biomes, mountains, rivers and an endless coastline. Set in Australia and New Zealand (maybe an island in between), this map takes inspiration from open world video games and the way in which the game devs create such immersive environments, such as GTA 4 and 5, Red Dead Redemption 2 and the Mafia 4 maps. To take it one step further, every thing on the map should feel unique and distinct. No city district, town or mountain should feel or look the same.

Replace that junction in the powerlines with a substation. In real life you'd want a substation there to allow you to switch off each run of wire separately to allow maintenance, and the switching usually occurs in a substation.

Wow. Incredible job, trains really do add a lot to Dundee. And those cinematics at the end really capture how sprawling Dundee has become, with the skyline behind green suburbs. It definitely feels like enough distance for trains to make sense :D

I was out driving out of the town and my little sister pointed out the telephone antennas in the field. Normal you won't notice how many telephone antennas are in your town or outside the town until you start looking for them. Oceania certainly need a bunch of them in the CBD and in the field.

The train stations themselves look really good, though I'm of the opinion that a lot of them are too close together even considering that this is a scaled down city. It feels like these train lines are doing a job meant for a subway or light rail, instead of journeying to the far corners of the map, between distant towns.

I enjoyed this episode and it is really awesome to see trains running in Dundee, especially the trains that run in Sydney. As a train nerd, I would like to elaborate on a few terms and things about railways.
    1. At 29:38 the "intersection" for railways are called switches. For a more collective term for these switches would be called Junctions. If the track goes from 1 track to another parallel track would be called crossovers.
    2. The catenaries are part of equipment called overhead line equipment or OHLE for short. These types of equipment are used as a power source for electric trains such as the double-deck trains running in Sydney. The wires are the main source of the power and the catenaries are used to support them from above. Without the power source, the electric trains would not be able to run. You would place the catenaries on where the track switches and where it curves. The distance between each catenary would differ in some places. Straight tracks would usually have catenaries that are more distant whilst curved tracks would have catenaries closer together.
I enjoyed this episode and I would love to see more episodes that are oriented around trains.

I'm going to sound like a complete nerd here but if the Train to Paterson is a commuter train it should be a Vline Vlocity, Or a NSW K-set, H-Set or a D-set. XPTs are apart of the NSW long distance trains and aren't used for the intercity commuter services such as Newcastle-Sydney, Wollongong-Sydney and Bathurst-sydney. Also your running a H set (OSCAR) on a suburban line, H sets haven't been transferred to suburban services yet.
Anyways I still loved the video :)

    • @ethanh773

A few other points to consider,
      - K sets: Transferred to suburban, wouldn’t make too much sense on that branch.
      - H sets: Do operate some peak suburban services on the T1, so do make sense on that run.
      - Bathurst to Sydney are Endeavour run, those would probably make more sense on that branch being small diesels (exists on the workshop too)

Here's a tip for catenaries. You can turn the track into a one way track, right click on it to reverse the direction, and change it back to a 2 way track and the catenaries will be the opposite way. Super easy, I use it a lot if I have an asymetrical catenary like that

  • @gazzamuso
    @gazzamuso 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Hi Sam, I'm a train driver working in Wellington, New Zealand. That station placed in your suburb of Ngāmotu is a very accurate representation of the Paekakariki train station but it only includes the main lines. In reality, there are several extra sidings next to the down main. So what you created is not accurate to the station in real life, but at the same time it was accurate to suggest that the station involved more than what the base prop included. Ngāmotu is the Māori name for my hometown of New Plymouth but is several hours drive away from the Wellington region and therefore from that Paekakariki station you placed. That doesn't matter overall obviously, but it makes me wonder if Dirty H is from the same small rural town as me which would be really wild!

I think Hipstervile should be named after the hubs in Australia for the hipster movement: Fitzroy (MLB) and Newtown (SYD)…
    Newfitz?
    Fitztown?
    Newroy?
    Newtroy?
Enmore was a hun too. Along with West End in Brisbane. Something could be found in there I’m sure.
Also, with the viaduct station, look at Maitland West train station. For small town styling, look at Taree, Wauchope, and Kempsey in NSW. Need to get some of those station signs in too.
For a good light rail end/start hub that joins with traditional rail, Helensvale in QLD. Parkwood east station has a cool road intersection with a modern passenger crossing. And the Queensland Griffiths University Hospital has an underground LR station which is really good.
PS. You’re missing a fundamental/quintessential Aussie place - an RSL and bowls club.

Besides, I think with the proximity of the station to that massive cemetery it should be called Lidcombe, and then you can call that cemetery Rookwood Necropolis (which is the biggest in the Southern Hemisphere).
