      100% for all of the merritt the AR10 and AR15 have, he's hands down one of the most underrated engineers to ever design firearms.

      Almost every modern assault rifle that isn't an ak, can be traced back to one of his designs. Its not even an understatement to call him, Jim Sullivan , and Bob Fremont the father's of the modern assault rifle.

    Ultimately, it was an economic and political decision that led to the m249 and m240 of FN because the US wanted Belgium to be part of the f-16 fighter jet program, by this time many other NATO countries were already adopting to the FN machine guns for the US it was acceptable to give up a domestically produced machine gun for an foreign one in ensuring the f-16 fighter program being successful.

Candle lit, rose petals, and a comparison of the Stoner 86/Ares LMG-1 in a more isolated environment without the loud show floor in the back and without some Rep doing the talkin'! Definitely some range time, yes, that'd be hawt.

    Everyone gets bent out of shape when I say FNH and H&K "grease the wheels" when trying to get small arm contracts with the US government. Here we had a superior design to the m249 saw and it was passed up.
    Hell this weapon design was used in Vietnam, it was proven to work but I guess Stoner didn't "grease the wheels".

    great video! i wish the army hadn't gone with the saw. most of the infantry i ran across weren't enthusiastic with it after lugging it around everywhere and trying to keep it clean. and magazines? never worked worth a damn. again not sure why we couldn't have de-mountable versions of 240's

    • @Legitpenguins99
      @Legitpenguins99 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Because the M240 realistically too overbuilt and heavy to be practical. No one wants to drag a 28 pounds of gun across the desert.

    • @briarus1000
      @briarus1000 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      only a 3.6 pound diff in weight. and the mounted 240's [the loaders really] wouldn't be going very far. i was not recommending the m240 replace the saw. the saw was too overbuilt and heavy to be lugged all over..... looks like the marines use the m240g, which allows it to be used by vehicles and infantry alike.

      @THETACHIchris 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Miles, it is my mistake for being vague. I appreciate that people have different perspectives, and the videos are full of good information. My problem with your videos is this: you left multiple instances of yourself confusing the firearms in the final cut and the presentation of the information is objectively bad.

    • @tfbtv
      @tfbtv  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Did you want a dissertation? These videos are supposed to be short and casual discussions of historically significant small arms. If you want the full scoop, then check out Ian at FW, he does an awesome job. If you want even more knowledge, then buy the books out there and invest in the Smithsonian interviews with Stoner. I’m sorry I didn’t perform to your high standards of video expectations, but luckily at least several hundred folks think that this was a neat video, so you seem to be quite the outlier.
      -Miles

    • @THETACHIchris
      @THETACHIchris 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, I do not want a dissertation. Although if anyone has one on the Stoner 86 and or the ARES LMG-1, the audiobook would be far less dry than any video by Miles.
      I, like most people, just want quality content that doesn't make people fall asleep. For you that might mean editting out the parts where you fumble between weapons names, and maybe being a little less bland. Or, send your videos to James with the information and have him narrate.... Because it doesn't matter how good your information is if you can't present it without boring the life out of your viewers.

    • @tfbtv
      @tfbtv  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well that’s too bad you’re disappointed, but a number of commenters seemed to have really enjoyed it. I’ll continue to cater to them and you can feel free to watch literally anything else on TH-cam.
