It’s hilarious seeing videos pop up like this. I just left the industry for the majority of reasons mentioned in the latter half of this video. I’ve worked in dealerships, independents and tire chains. I will say only one of the dealership sent me to training but it was too little and far in between. Last shop I was at before quitting for good was too busy dealing with angry customers to train me. What you guys talk about is great and exactly what young people like me wanna see in this industry, maybe even more than the deserved pay raises. But the reality of this industry is the old dogs just don’t respect the young techs and this causes the young techs to resent the old ones. I was not one of these young disrespectful techs but was still not respected in almost any shop I worked out. I averaged 90-100% efficiency and only had 1 come back out of any car I touched that I’m aware of. I never called out sick was probably late only once or twice. Your managers don’t give a shit, they will yell at you anyway and will not show appreciation. That’s when I learned that this industry actually doesn’t care about come backs as long as you pump out a shit ton of car “repairs”. The culture sucks, period. I’ve heard stories of the glory days of being a mechanic, so tried to stick it out. Tried to be the change this industry needs, but it showed me it doesn’t actually want that. Now imma go work at in n out where I get paid more and can actually anticipate the BS I’d experience there. 😂 lmao ridiculous.
