I am new to stock. For example if you have money in Nio for a long term but also want to swing trade Nio, do you need two different accounts?
I like M1 for long term investing because it doesn't allow you to get tangled up in emotional investing given they only have one trading window. I just deposit money in every week and let it trade for me. 👌

I do a hybrid type of investment ! Still don't have the magic button to time the maket 🤔. I get several people telling me, stay long term you will eventually end up with profit at least 10% with index type of funds

My wealthsimple account had about $300 in growth today. I work a full time job so although I know this isn’t going to be the everyday average growth, I am happy since it is so much better than parking my money into a savings account with a measly 1.25% rate. I am mad I slept on investing! I encourage anyone to invest their money into etfs and index funds. I’m just learning about trading right now and I want to learn how to swing trade.

Can you explain the short-term investment strategy?
For me, I am in a position from 3 days to 2 months, If you look at daily charts on stocks you will see many go up for a while, then pause or pullback - then go up more. Idea is to get in at the end of the pause of pullback and then ride it up a bit, trailing up your stop.

Regarding short term vs long term capital gains tax rate can someone check the math on a piece of info I sent friends as "napkin math" ? And tell me if this is correct and further, if it's sound advice?
Just kind of spitballing here now that I think about it I guess if we took a spot price of $12
since the 35% long term cap gains rate is nearly 36% take 36% as the long term tax rate,
and since 12% short term rate is 1/3 of 36% so take a spot price of $12 to keep everything simple and equal you would have to have a sale price of $36 or higher for the tax implications to be better to sell early than waiting a year for the lower tax rate
Does that sound correct?
Basically your stock needs to be worth 3x (at least) to sell early?

imagining long term as doing a painting (putting in money) and letting it dry(it growing), then moving onto short term investing while you wait. the paint will still dry, and you'll be able to do whatever in the meantime
