I made a cobble stone patten mold 40 years ago......to give them a rounded top I simply spread a very thin sheet of clear plastic over the wet cement before pressing my home made metal mold into the cement.......when it was near dry a small brush on the surface gave a pleasing finnish......even oxide colours can be brushed into the top.....lots of fun.......we even did complete driveways 🇭🇲

Thanks you for uploading this video. Your honesty made a difference. Some people make it sound like it's so easy, and nothing can go wrong. I learned from watching this, and I think it looks really cool.

Rapid set is WAY too expensive and overkill. It's mainly for professional construction. I used the crack resistant quicrete in the orange bags, for around $4.00 per 60lb bag. It worked wonderful and highly recommend it.

If you really want it to pop, order three different pigment power color and mix in separate containers and then just add random patterns to the mold.

Also turn the mold 1/4 turn for each consecutive set so it doesn't looks so identical.

Do you think you could use the form as a kind of stamp? Like pour the concrete down and just push the form gently into the concrete instead of filling it, to just make indentations of rocks so you wouldn't have to fill it in with sand afterward?

i use a 5 gallon bucket and the heavy duty paint stirrer for a large drill i got at harbor freight. it can do a whole 80# bag just right.
i wish i had the harbor freight mixer, its a couple hundred bucks but i want to do alot of these patterns for a really big area .

My wife tried to do this back when these things first came to our area. She didn't read how to mix the cement and the stones would collapse after she took the frame off. She went through $200 in cement one day when I was at work. It all went into a dry well. My purpose for this would be to suggest making extra and replacing the bad spots. I like how yours turned out I might try this again.

I`m going to be honest. That looks like hot trash. I think the mold wasn't doing you any favors. I used the quickrete mold and vegetable oil for mold release. I also used the cheapest blend of quikrete. Some of the stuff you`re using looks too gravely. Can't remember where, but I read 3/4 of a gal water to 80lb bag is the right mix. That was wrong and I needed more water. You`re looking for a cake batter consistency. I also used a board across the mold to level everything and smoothed the texture with a trowel and a clean hand. I also thing you buried too deep. I don't think the sand is doing you any favors either. I`m going to grout a little with potting soil then plant bent grass for grout and stay on top of mowing with either side of the trail butted up to bermuda grass. The only other tip I got is don't let concrete dry on your mold.
I was a little hesitant about how this project was going to turn out during research phase after coming across your video, On whether this whole Idea is hot trash or was it just you. Again, I`m going to be honest and say this is a personal problem. I hope you don't take this the wrong way.
