I will say that the 1993 movie, while flawed and terrible, is still a pretty fun watch...
Take out the Mario stuff and it's just your typical nihilistic future movie from the 80s, which are fun.
I still think my favorite joke in the 93 movie is how Koopa (Bowser) is elected president after a military coup, but all the elections were shams because he was the only candidate.
