That was me it was a piece of my brittle wiring harness that fell into the intake port. Holding my intake valve open... Thankfully all is well and my gs400 is screaming to redline no problem.
Thanks for the footage. There was some insight of what I was thinking while we were chatting. I'm super happy the engine wasn't stuffed and it made for a pretty good video too. I've pinned this comment to the top. Cheers Kelvin
I had a Mercedes Vito with the top half of the inlet off, you can still run the engine like that, and one of the other techs came over with a roll up hanging out of his mouth. He looked down into the intake and as he spoke his ciggie dropped straight into number 2 cylinder. Looking on gobsmacked as the engine started chuffing and running rough. I was about to say "well that's that ruined" when it suddenly cleared and ran smooth again.
When giving the engine out of a 1uz converted is200 i bought a gasket refresh, i found a m8 flanged nut down the port of Cylinder 1. i think it had been in there a long time, it was all rounded on the edges, very lucky as well that it didnt fit down the gap and jam a valve or go right through.
I’ve been wrenching for quite some time and you know how it is you can recognize experience in another guy right away... great content I enjoy listening to your bits of 1UZ/3UZ knowledge
Same happened with the Bedford (in the pic -Granada v6 motor, Celica 5 speed) in 1997 when a screw came loose from the carb splitter while I was in Auckland on holiday. I removed the heads on the side of the road dug the screw from the top of the piston , new gaskets etc and it was ok for years after! That engine is recently being replaced with Toyota V8 - wiring done by CartuneNZ of course.
Solid advice. I'm reviewing as many starter videos as I can before I tackle the starter job on my 98 SC400 at the end of the month. OH YEA, I'm nervous
i had something like this on mine but it was a small screw driver sitting in the port thank fully it didnt go down far enough to hit the valve and make that sound
I have a question for a sc400. Do you have to pull the motor out to change the starter wires or to repair the wire? Or what is the best way to do that?
No need to pull engine, its intake off and dig on the left side of the engine. Its tight and a little tricky but can be done. You may want to remove left exhaust manifold. Cheers Kelvin.
Heyy ! i sent a email a few weeks back, i dont know if you seen it? i was swiping a Uz into a 74 Toyota Corolla ! was wondering about a nice new wiring harness. Its all stock at this point..
I’d say “R.I.P. carburettors” but if you remember back to the 80s there was a noise in every suburban street and in every shopping centre car park on the weekend that went “shrrr-shrrr-shrrr-shrrr-shrrr...” over and over until it slowed then stopped. It was the sound of starter motors cranking on and on until the battery went flat. Also motors used to do a thing called “running out of tune” and had “flat spots” and power was uneven and every car head had a screwdriver under his seat. Burn In Hell carburettors. Don’t ever come back. Rot In Hell you bastards!
CartuneNZ 😄At first I feared it because there was no where for me fix or adjust it. But then we realised we didn’t have to fix or adjust anything! So good!

wow.... and I've several TPS screws that are in the valley now! Thanks for the heads up.
They are like snipers waiting to attack at any moment that intake is lifted. Cheers Kelvin

Hi I have a 1992 sc 400 and it has a battery drain and I put the meter and is putting from the ignition fuse can it be the starter
I doubt its the starter as they dont tend to drain but testing is what I would be doing. Cheers Kelvin
I have a 1992 sc400 1uzfe and there a little ticking but not sure can u help me please u seem to know everything about the motor
best to go out into the shed and do some testing. A doctors stethoscope helps in these situtations. Cheers

Im old enough to know about carburetor , I almost did a video of servicing my little pile of crap Suzuki sj413. Fuel injection works so much nicer.
