    Forget the rings. The last part of your video is the best thing I’ve ever seen on any channel. I feel that as long as you/we keep our loved ones in our hearts they will always be with us. Your heart felt words will and have struck a nerve in us all. And for that you should be very proud. Not many people in this world get to effect so many. I loved it thank you so much.

    My deepest condolences for the loss of your Mom. My wife is like you and was raised as an only child and lost her mother in 2015 and still struggles with it. Keep in mind that she is happy for you and she herself is still living in a better place and you will be reunited someday.
    As for the Loon rings, I have an old cedar chest in my tying room. I’m wanting to put removable dowels across the inside and hang my materials from them. These rings would be perfect for that. I currently have my materials sorted in totes and it makes them difficult to find and takes up way to much room. I have pieces of cedar inside each tote as a critter deterrent. I’m hoping placing them inside the cedar chest and sorting on the dowels by type and having them inside will clean up my area and make both my wife and myself happier.

    I would wear them as an anklet, and when I am not outside on the beach strutting around with my awesome anklet I would fill it up with materials on my fishing pegboard… but they would mostly be used as anklets

    Brian, thank you for all you do, it's a pleasure to watch. I hope to meet you in person one of these days. I too, lost my mom in 2019, almost two years to the day that I lost my dad. It's funny how you really don't understand all your parents did for you until they're gone. As far as the rings go, I have a few and use them when i travel to expos to tie. I can put all the materials for a patten on one ring, then just get that ring out to tie a pattern and i have everything i need.
    Again, thanks for being such an ambassador to the sport we all love!

    Brian, I just watched this for the first time. NEVER apologize for honoring your mother. My father past at 42. I was 8. My single mother worked 3 jobs to keep a roof over our heads. I never saw store bought clothes until I was 13. My mother outfitted 4 kids by making all our clothes except underwear and socks. She was that good and resourceful. I lost my mother when she was 57 and I was 32. I'm 62 now and I constantly think of her and my father! Those memories still guide me, sometimes with a smile and/or a tear. Thank you for sharing with us through your mother and your fly experience. So, one fly tier/fisherman to another THANK YOU and keep it coming. I would love to tie and fish with you one day! All the best to you and yours!

    My condolences hearing about the passing of your mother buddy, but I’m positive she is proud. So, I myself served in the US Army from 2000-2011 when I was retired after being wounded in combat. Afterwards, once retired and unable to do a lot and being limited on ability to raise my income regardless of education or experience, I really really felt lost. I lost several close friends from my military service and began to feel that maybe there wasn’t much left for me here, pretty crummy feeling for a guy that took one for the team serving his country. I was a HUGE B.A.S.S. guy and grew up on Kentucky lake and longed to be back out on the water, and that’s where you come in to save the day. Fast forward a few years, and I had gotten into fly fishing through another outreach organization, but didn’t feel that I fit because trout at the time just wasn’t my thing, just wasn’t into tossing around dainty and extremely small, or so I thought at the time, dry flies. I tended to be a bit brash, much more aggressive in my fishing style, and I was more of a go big or go home kinda guy. So there I was surfing the tube and what do I see, this awesome freaking furry “swimbait” and I kept thinking why haven’t I seen that, where can I buy it, and then it hit me, someone was making/tying it, and that someone was you. When I say you opened my eyes, and that you specifically had a part in bringing this old country boy back from the edge, and you put excitement back in my daily routine where it had been lacking. The tying aspect of this sport has given me something to look forward to on days when not much moving can be done, and my bench has become my second home. On the days when I physically can, I hit the water as hard as I can and enjoy every minute of it, it’s where I find peace. I’m grateful for your contribution to this sport, and grateful for the humor, and grateful for your mom and her contribution to you and ultimately all of us here watching the channel through y’all’s studio. Keep rockin it brother, you got something a lot of folks DON’T and it’s that you’re 100% as real as it gets!

    I'd first use those bench rings to teach my nephew's Hamster "Gizmo" to Hula hoop. When we're done touring the world with our Hula hooping Hamster show, "Gizmo" could retire back to his wheel & I'll have enough cash to get a peg board and as much dubbing and flash as you have there to hang. All jokes aside, My Condolences. It's never easy losing someone so special. Love your vids & keep the great work coming. Cheers.

    I would use the rings to organize my fly materials that I bring to Florida each winter in my Plano 3731 deep boxes. We come down from Illinois each year to help my wife’s parents that are in their 80’s. My mother took over a preschool program in the early 1980’s because the service was needed in our small city. At her wake in the early 2000’s many young adults stopped by the visitation and commented on the impact she had had on their lives. I get my heart for service from her. Thank you for sharing your story.

    Right in the feels. I went through some stuff a few years ago and had someone that went through something similar tell me that they prayed “don’t let this pain be for nothing let me use it to help others”. So I pray that also when I see someone going through something it helps me help them, if that makes sense. Your tying videos are something I watch when I get annoyed with the world, lol. But watching someone tie and listening to the music is something that really takes my mind off of others things, almost like fishing or shooting a bow. At the risk of sounding to corny anyway.

    Brian love your videos. The feels at the end hit home as I lost my dad a few years ago-he never really got to see my growing love for tying but I know he would have loved seeing my growing passion-just wish I would have been able to share more of it with him. I live in Ste. Genevieve, MO but my wife & I have been blessed to be able to own a cabin on the Little South Branch of the Pere Marquette river in MI. One of my most enjoyable things to to is to sit riverside and tie. Hauling tying gear & materials usually results in throwing a bunch of stuff in a backpack-the material rings look like a great way to be able to keep things organized going back & forth. Keep up the great work!

    Bench rings. I think you could put spools of wire, etc. on a bench ring. Basically, anything you wouldn't put in a bobbin because you only need a few inches of the material. Could also put floss, holographic tinsel, etc.

  • @windmill10
    @windmill10 ปีที่แล้ว

    Another solution for your peg board issues may be the following. I think unscrewing the the Loon ring and then screwing it shut again is a bit of a hassle. Get yourself a bunch of those reusable slider plastic bags. So not the presure closing type but the ones that you can slide open and shut with a a zipper like thingy. Then punch one or more holes in the *bottom end* of the bag to hang it from. This way you can either remove the peg or the ring from your board and access the bag from the bottom side by simpley sliding it open. Don't forget to slide the bag shut again before hanging it back or you''ll be sweeping the contents of the floor 🤣
    If you have a sewing machine you can reinforce the bottom section to prevent tear out of glue something to it. But usually the thickness of these bags is sufficient for the weight.

    @scottmarconti856 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    First and most importantly, sorry for your loss brother. This is a special video for sure. Great way to have your Moms memory live through your passion of fly tying. As for the rings I love to travel and find when I bring materials with me to either tie at the lodge or even by a campfire along the river, my case full of materials usually is a disaster by the time I open it up to tie up a few streamers or hoppers to “ match the hatch”. I keep everything in a old Plano type camera case, and I would love to take out all my makeshift compartments and have just my travel vise, loon tool kit and then my materials on these rings! It would so much more efficient and as a side note I wouldn’t have to worry about a package of marabou or hackle flying off the table but rather could have them all secure on the rings! Great new product and now I have too look to get some for a trip coming up soon!

  • @DevanFischer

    Well, I just got into tying and im exploring options for setting up my tying space. Brian, not going to comment about the Loon material rings even though I could use some and put them to good use. I will comment though on your tribute to your Mother, I know how hard it is to speak about someone you love and care about in the public eye, so I commend you and respect you for this I also feel like even though we have never met, that tribute introduced me to the real Brian Wise.

    I would use those rings for dubbing and chenille packages. I used to have a reel just like your grandpa's reel the Johnson century. Caught the biggest catfish of my life on that reel. That brought back a lot of good memories thank you.

  • @calebschmucker3034
    @calebschmucker3034 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    First and foremost, thanks for sharing about your mom; it’s those personal connections that make the talking head on the screen relatable and feel like a friend. I always appreciate your authentic nature, so this moment is just one more feather in your “being an awesome person” cap.
    Second- if the super awesome thing you’re partnering on is granite vise bases then I am beyond stoked!! I’ve been envious of that since the first video I saw it in! You can put me down as a pre-preorder if that’s what’s coming ;)
    Lastly, for the rings - I think it would be cool to use them to have exposed loops of materials; such as using a heavy duty hole punch on deer hides, or zip ties looped into flashabou rings, so the difference between storage and usage is literally just where it’s located (the table or the wall).
    A little more crafty use for them would be to use the longer one as a bite guard… figuring out a way to attach it to your leader (other than a blood knot or some such knot) might be a bit tricky, but based on how your knife handled it, I’m guessing it could stand up to a few toothy critters haha

  • @mikepetti

    Awesome video! Love your studio / tying bench! It’s fantastic!
    Sorry for the loss of your Mother, probably not easy an easy story to share in front of the camera. Good for you for doing so. She would be proud.
    As for the bench rings, I would do the exact same thing you’re doing. I don’t use a peg board but I have screw in hooks to the wall. They get me by but all my material are held together with they kind of releasable zip ties… not ideal and I hate having to take 10 packs off to get to one. So, in all honesty… I’d do what you do! It’s brilliant!
    Cheers

    Whoa! You got My feels going, Brian...on a Tuesday, no less.
    Thanks for the tour of the studio and for sharing the story of your mom. She would TOTALLY be so proud of what you've done with the studio to honor her memory and carry on her DIY spirit. Bravo, sir! And thanks for being more than a talking head. Seriously. Showing who you are and what makes you tick is awesome and I appreciate it all the more. 👏👏👏
    What would I do with the Loon Bench Rings? Get all the materials that won't fit on my pegboard out of the FIVE grocery sacks (sitting on my floor at the moment). Dan at Feather-Craft will vouch for me. I need at least one big ring for all the Schlappen and one for all the chenille. 🤪
    Unrelated, but worth mentioning, Keith (?) at Tornado Anchor came through big-time. The code in your video doesn't work anymore, but he gave me a different one and it was delivered... The. Very. Next. Day. Couldn't believe it. And that anchor IS all that. I was a little skeptical about all the hype, but I figured I needed a new anchor anyway. Consider my skepticism crushed.

  • @ronporreca9574
    @ronporreca9574 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    The Loon rings would be great for flash and fibers. Trim off a corner of the bag, pull out the strands you need with a bodkin or hook and you would only need to open the ring when you run out of a color.
    Your feels also got to my feels. Lost my mom unexpectedly in 2013. It doesn’t get easier, you just have to keep going forward. Awesome that she is still “with you” in your studio. My mom used to quilt so I have repurposed some of her quilting tools into my tying bench. Helps to keep her in mind when I pick one of them up.
    Update: I am sure the Lion rings are great as they make fantastic products. That said, anyone looking for a more economical solution can search for “wire key rings” and find 100 packs for $15 or so in the same sizes.

    My wife would appreciate me being more organized. Those would help. Thanks as always with all the the new tips ,and new products. Brian. God bless. I am so sorry for your losses. But our loved ones will always be in our hearts. I can not ever thank you enough for the things you have taught me thru videos. I have met you a couple of times at BPS fly shop.

    Not to knock Loon but I've been using, for years, shower curtain/golf towel rings and generic cable loops from amazon. Much cheaper.

    Great video to wake up to. Very nice setup. The bench rings are a good idea (I don't need to be in the drawing). Shoe holder is also a good idea (I'm going to have my "seamstress" wife make me some with smaller pockets.

    For my bench rings... let me tell ya what I would do! for the patterns that I do A LOT of: I would have each of the materials that I would need on a ring. Example: Wooly Bugger; on a bench ring, I would have hooks, cones, saddle hackle, chenille, wire, marabou, and flash all on a ring. I want to tie a WB. I grab that ring and get to work.

    Those bench rings would be a game changer. I have drawers and drawers of streamer materials. I spend more time looking for the materials I want than actually tying 😂

    I would use them on my 10 foot peg board. Like you, I can’t stand stuff in drawers. I also know now not to try and cut them with my knife. If I may ask, what is the story with the lightning bolt light?

    I would make it put the resin on its skin or else it gets the thread again. But seriously I'd probably put small holes in my buck tails then thread them all on there

    Way too late of a comment, hope you see this, but what i'd do with them bench rings is...cut them open and see whats inside...likely messing up my knife in the process =)

    My ”tying room” door opens outwards and I can’t lock it when I’m in there due to the main light in the room being connected to the door (the light switches off when the door closes)…so I would use those rings to secure the door on the inside to prevent the wife/children opening it when I’m in there. 😂

    I’d have to buy a bunch of new materials 🤑 to get rid of all my planos and have the baggies to string them up

    @2k subs + around 10k views monthly I make about 11 dollars a month. I'd wager that Brian here (Bryan? sorry i'm really new to the fly fishing world!) is making around 12 times that. So hes making Gas money if he drives a vehicle that gets like 15mpg or better.

    Hey Brian, your wife's a whole lot prettier than you are, just sayin'. As for the bench rigs, I'm going to make a camper cap on the back of my pickup I'm going to tow behind my motorhome. I'm going to have a fly tying bench in that camper cap and I'm going to use the bench rings to hang my bags of materials from the walls. How I'm going to hang the complete deer skin I got from a friend of mine a few years ago I don't know right now but I've ordered lots of bags and was wondering how I was going to store them. Now I know. I just need to figure out some way to keep them on hook or pegs when I travel down the road. Some of those roads going to the Little Red are pretty bumpy.
