All good, but a tip for those who aren't hung up on brands: For all this stuff -- plastic bags, plastic shoe boxes, plastic food storage containers in various shapes and sizes -- Dollar Tree is your friend. And a bonus tip: To save the expense and trouble of a dedicated label maker, just create a word processing document(s) using appropriately sized text in the typeface(s) of your choice and print them out (you can get a dozen or so labels ('chenille, ' Krystal Flash,' etc.) on one standard sheet of paper) on your printer. Then, cut them out and use clear packing tape (also from Dollar Tree) or 'Scotch'-type, gift-wrapping tape to cover them and affix them to the front of your Dollar Tree containers. Hey, maybe I should just get my own channel.

Thanks for all the great storage tips! I enjoyed seeing your tying space. I would like to see a video on your favorite books as well as a detailed look at your fly tying treasures in your museum!

Decades ago I bought a roll top desk for $150 specifically for fly tying. I can store all my stuff and lower the lid if necessary to hide my clutter.

You’re much more well stocked than my local fly shops

Quite the book collection! I’m 36 and pre-internet those books and mags were the only way to learn if you weren’t taking a class!

Whole Cloves work great as an insect repellent. Sprinkle liberally in each bag or box, or tie up golf ball size mesh bag to keep in a drawer. Been using them for almost 50 years and never had an insect problem. Renew every couple of years. Affordable and more pleasant scent than moth balls. Finished flies in the fly box do not seem to retain any lingering scent.

I had a feeling I was on a slippery slope. Now I know that this tying malarky is bottomless.. (nice setup).

Great information. Thanks a lot! Hope you’re having a fun and safe Memorial Day Tim. Best wishes. God bless those that sacrificed all, so we can have the freedom we do. 🇺🇸

Some amount of tying material you have there. Great ideas I must implement, I use some of them already with zip lock bags holding most of my capes.

I live in a vehicle and all my tying stuff fits in one 2 gallon plastic bin including my vise that I clamp on the steering wheel. I only use cream color hackle and dozen color magic markers to achieve all the hatch colors. I can tie 90% of flies with my supplies. My buddies have entire rooms dedicated to fly tying. The accumulation become the main hobby and fishing is no longer a thing. I travel and fish 250 days/year all over the world. They sit in their tying rooms in huge houses and work 60 hours/week to pay for it. This does not apply to tightlinevideo as he actually has a reason to have all that to make videos for all of us to enjoy.

I'm a senior and I too live full time in my truck camper and tie flies. I use the different sized baggies to store the various materials which in turn I store in a duffle bag. Didn't know feathers could weigh so much!
Good advice and suggestions in this video. Well done sir.
      Cheers from BC, Canada

I noticed, at the very end of your video, one of your collectibles had the outline of the state of West Virginia. My home state, where I’ve lived my entire life. Do you have ties to WV? Just curious. Absolutely love your videos. Thanks for all the great information. JJones

Try whole cloves as a moth ball alternative. Been using them for 50 years, never had an insect problem.

These are great ideas. That’s a lot of plastic though for this conservation minded gal. Yes I use plastic carts to hold materials, but I try to keep it at a minimum.

While I agree. Keeping these for long times as storage instead of single use goes beyond what I think the manufacturer's intended for food storage and such. While the manufacturer of plastics may not be ideal. Using bags and bins meets the definition of being conservation minded. I can't recall if I have ever thrown away a bin that is properly taken care of and kept out of the elements.

The rule to observe is to tie flies for selection, NOT a collection. Clutter can overwhelm you. Keep it to a minimum.

can't afford 1 of those fancy Schumancy bobbins let alone 20 😂 that's money that can go into materials I can't afford lol
