The thing about G3 is that it was all about the toys. Unlike G1 or G4 it didn't have a tv show or even that many specials, but there were a lot of toys and they're some of the most high quality MLP toys made. G4 beats G3 as a media franchise, but the G3 toys are miles above G4 in terms of quality and collectability
Hasbro will be making a crossover comic series between g4 and g1...and some speculate they might do crossovers with other generations to,to celibrate the anniversary of mlp.
I wish G3 had a proper TV series instead of just a string of short movies. A whole season of G3 would be really fun to watch! With how cheerful and low stakes G3 is 99% of the time, it would work way better as a slice of life series than as a bunch of movies where some kind of conflict has to be solved. Actually I wish G4 did more slice of life too! G2 is more slice of life and I actually really like it! My Little Pony in general would make a really good slice of life series... Like come on, just let the ponies pony!
@Sukeban Deka Saki Sanobashi True. Even a really lighthearted type of villain would have helped add some sort of stakes. Just some sort of antagonist to zap with a rainbow friendship laser!
This unlocked a childhood memory. When I was a kid we had a bunch of the toys with the magnet hooves. I remember we’d make them stick to the metal bolts on my bedroom ceiling fan and take bets on which one would stay on longest when the fan started turning. Probably dangerous now that I think about it but very entertaining
As a G3 fan who grew up with this am I super glad to see this and discover stuff that's more fandom related than only doll collection related! Now I want to go find my old toys again, the G3 toys are so so so well made and can withstand so many things it's amazing how long my G3 dolls still have their original scents even after a decade
Another popular franchise licensed under Hasbro, Littlest Pet Shop (or LPS) for short, had the exact same toy design scheme as the Gen 3 ponies did, specifically the magnets in the right front paw/hoof. For similar reasons, Hasbro stopped producing the Pet Shop models with the magnets in them around the time the serial numbers all got to the 1000s, which is when they made the switch from magnets to holes and pegs for activation playsets rather than just magnets. MLP and LPS to me are like sibling series, even if they're not related. They both have that specific charm to them
I wish I still had my G3 toys. They were so glittery and had a distinct smell I can never forget. I dont even remember which ones I had, I just remember their hair always getting knotted lmaoooooo
fun fact: many people think starsong was never in g4, but that’s not completely true. she was featured in a g4 comic, i believe it was fairly recent. her g3 cutie mark was on her bag so it was definitely her.

I feel like I've seen it somewhere else too, like an obscure brochure or something . . . But regardless of that, I definitely remember it from the website. :D Great video, you really went in depth! Honestly, I hear a lot of people shipping Minty and Pinkie, but no one ever seems to mention Starbright and Heart Flight (seen in Two for the Skies) as being a couple, but I personally feel there's a lot of signs that imply that they're a couple. In the beginning, it mentions how the two ponies are "closer than two friends had ever been before", they're always seen doing things together, and they even live in the same house (even going as far as to sleep in the same bed). I could be wrong, but it really just seems like the two ponies are a couple. Of course, that's just a personal theory of mine, and it's never mentioned explicitly that they're dating.

Like the Starlight, Starbright nursery rhyme. I've developed a fondness for G3 ever since I found out about an online fan called SillyAllAround, who loved the MLP franchise and tragically died in a car accident before the release of FIM. I found a post from her explaining why she loved the G3 specials: "I tried to watch Lord of the Rings today, and was so overwhelmed, I had to stop. Now, I'm watching every My Little Pony from A Charming Birthday through Positively Pink expressly because they have a complete lack of villainy in an ideal atmosphere that takes me completely away from a world of war and terror. To me, this shows that a world that is not in the verge of annihilation can still be perfectly stimulating, and definitely not boring. This is my personal view."
I know Shunks won't see this, but I can't believe I forgot to mention Kimono's Townhouse!! I commented about the runaway rainbow game for suggestions!! But anyways, Kimono's Townhouse was a fancomic using actual pony dolls!! I recommend checking it out
I grew up on G3!!! I love it!!! A Very Minty Christmas was my go to Christmas movie as a child and Minty and Pinkie were my favorites-having the figures for both. Alas I’ve unfortunately misplaced those figures as of late.
13:52 Not quite the same, but I used to have a big G3 set that came with small plastic food. I used to put the food in my mouth without intending on eating it, but swallowing it anyways on accident. I was a weird kid.
Now *this* is what I have nostalgia for. The Runaway Rainbow PC game was my childhood. I saw The World's Biggest Tea Party live, too, and I vaguely remember the flash games.
I very much can be biased since it's the generation I grew up with, but I think G3 ponies were the best design wise. They were chubby like ponies are supposed to be without being oddly lumpy like G1s were. Plus they had very nice color combinations. Can't speak for the show because I haven't seen it, I didn't like children's shows back then.
This is the MLP I grew up with. I like FIM because it came out when i was 10 , but g3 was awesome and nostalgic to me. My head hurts so I can’t really write more but I have a lot of connection to G3
>recently been getting into g3 >confused by the many in-gen reboots and lack of character consistency >see a g3 iceberg video >starts with cute music and adorable yak oc fading in alright alright img gettjg cozy alreadyf ujck
Underrated opinion, as I grew up with G3 I just can't enjoy G4. It's way too different from what I was used to as a kid. I've watched some of the episodes and I just find it to be annoying. G3 was much more appealing and definitely nostalgic, as today I still love everything about it. Glad someone still remembers this amazing era.
I like the world of g4, but I prefer the characters of g3 idk their more enjoyable and less annoying. I do like the princesses (exlc. twi) from g4 but thats it, im more interested in the world of g4s lore and the characters of g3.
Same, i love the hyper girly world of g3...g4 is just eh + the fandom is scary, i'm kinda glad g3 is so hated, the girlies can have their own growm men free space
As a person who is born in 2004, G3 and G 3.5 are always my favourite as a kid and I have few G3 books and alot of toys of it. The only dvd special I have is "Dancing In the Clouds". Such good old memories :')
Okay so idk if you have this on the iceberg BUT all of the g3 ponies are female right? Yet on pegasus island there is a baby pony! Honolulu (pretty sure I’m spelling her name wrong). Which means gay trans ponies are canon!!! They all very much mother her too so it’s not like a random baby.
G3 was the Gen I grew up with when I was a girl. It was mostly the toys and I remember when I first saw Rainbow Dash as a Pegasus and not an earth pony, I had a lot of questions.
I love the fact that G3 My Little pony was not made with adults in mind I wish we had more of that in my honest opinion because in true honesty I hate watching little kid movies and seeing all the adult humor it's sometimes is too overbearing or just obnoxious I just wish it wasn't in there so I honestly enjoy the fact that G3 did not have the adults in mind cuz we need more of that nowadays honestly especially with kids getting smarter you just don't need it honestly I'd rather have my kids watch generation 3 of My Little pony first because it doesn't have adults in mind and I enjoy that so I love to watch it 🤗💞
I'm so glad someone else remembered purple pinkie pie !! I thought I was crazy when I swore up and down I remembered seeing her somewhere and she was purple !
I remember my older sister with a G3 board game with these hot air balloons. For the 3D cutie marks she had a Pinkie Pie one. 25:31 This part of the iceberg happens in "The Princess Promenade". Star Catcher is in the special, but yeah she's missing her wings for some reason.
Newborn cuties is the only one I hate, all the other gens are tolerable and harmless. Not the best but nostalgic and comforting in a way. I had the princess special of this gen! Watched it all the time on my very pirated DVD my grandma got me from the local "camelô". The older first gen too got in my hands! It was an ep where they bullied toddlers or something it was wild. I'm not surprised I liked gen 4 so much, it had everything I liked about older gens in a more elaborate well thought out package! As someone who is now nonbinary and male leaning a part of me feels like it's shameful to admit my old love for the old gens but they played a part in my love of art and my personality so...yeah, they don't deserve my hate. Newborn cuties can die in a fire tho.
This is actually a pretty good coverage for G3. Saying this as someone who grew up with G3 and has followed and collected MLP my entire life, including having four of those exclusive G3 figures you mentioned, I appreciate this video quite a bit. Thank you, for finally adding a voice with legitimate facts and correct information, from a neutral or positive perspective. It has been so, so needed. Also a special thank you for taking the time to differentiate between the core 7 reboot and the original. Personally speaking it was the original I grew up with and loved, I never really did care all that much for newer Toola Roola and the rest, nor for the newer intro. The fan theory stuff though is.... questionable. If those theories were around while G3 was present I'll be highly surprised, my entire experience during G3 is of the celebration of individual characters and each person's creativity, mostly creating and sharing unique and interesting ponies in various mediums. I don't think anyone really though hard enough about it for theories to become prevalent, and while the odd person did ship the ponies it was, as far as I knew, rather rare.
Do not ask me how I know, but the movie you were thinking of with earth pony Star Catcher was Princess Promenade... She along with two others are in one of the boutique scenes after Wysteria is pronounced princess...
If you want to know a fun fact for the future g1 iceberg then Spike and the human boy character I don’t remember the name of and basically every other male character in the series is voiced by the same actor who played Ash Ketchum in Sweden
As a Long Running G3 Fan myself who Knew, practically all in this iceberg, you did Super Great! One thing I'd like to Add that supports the G1 and G3 being the same universe is th Fact Spike is noticeably much older than G1 spike, but being asleep for so long he may not remember Megan?(I think that's her name) but Was friends with the old magical princesses hence the Entire Princess Promenade Plot
This video unlocked some old memories and I’m not even mad. When I was super young, I had a G3 book. The main character was Pinkie Pie, I believe, and it was about like.. a festival or something. I remember there being fireworks. It’s too bad that it got left behind in a move. Edit: THERE WAS A FASHION SHOW IN IT. I think Toola Roola was the one that made the clothes. Oh my god, these old ass memories. Edit 2: Oh my god Desert Rose. She was in the book too, I think. I loved her, she was like my favorite pony. Edit 3: Wisteriaaaaa! I’m pretty sure she was important to the book, and I liked her a lot too. I always thought she was really pretty…. probably because purple is my favorite color hdjfjdjj
I remember when they performed "the world's biggest tea party" in the tri cities, I was so excited as a child and loved it. They gave us little tea pots and pinkie taught us how to properly drink tea, with your pinkies up
I do much prefer the way the ponies move in G4 to G3, because they move lie actual equines instead of mostly bouncing around everywhere! I love the G3 art style though
I remember watching the old ones, I cried watching this..... it gave me so much nostalgia plus I remember having a DS game called “ pinkie pies birthday “ I think, it’s been years.....
You know G3’s toys weren’t all sunshine and rainbows. There was a collector pony designed by a fan out manga artist and comic con ponies that were things like superhero’s, secret identity superhero or my favourite the 2009 one I think that had 1 side be the hero side and 1 side be the villain side.
G3 gets a lot of undeserved hate imo. It's obviously not as good as the generation that proceeds it, but that doesn't make it bad. It's just a harmless show for little girls at worst, with some cute, fun little charms at best. As far as children's media goes, you can definitely do a *lot* worse. (Stares intensely at Cocomelon)
I think that "Lost CGI Pilot" was just GinaGiovannielle misremembering those toy commercials they put at the end of at least one video. (Dancing in the Clouds ends with a commercial for MLP merch that features a CGI Pinkie Pie)
1. if mlp takes place in the real world, that means it's in an alternate timeline where horses took over the world and adapted to grow wings and horns that became magic somehow. 2. will mlp be considered an anime now?
33:00 - I was a huge mlp AND lps fan at the time and I didn’t care that they were so similar; I totally embraced it and used the playsets and accessories interchangeably since they were around the same size!
I went to see the world's biggest tea party live when it was still going as a kid!!! I think in 2006, I was 4/5! One of my best memories, even if the costumes were kinda scary! I remember singing "I'm a little teacup" with my mom on the seats :D
I was a little kid back when g3 was going on and I loved the specials a lot back then, so it was only natural I would love the later mlp series Friendship is Magic. Because I was too young to have any internet accounts back then, I didn’t really participate in the fandom, but I wanted to know as much as I could about mlp. I ended up collecting dvds of all the different generations and found it really fun how everything was so different based on the different eras. I love your videos because pretty much every generation is nostalgic for me and it’s nice to hear about all these things.
I watched G3 as a toddler/young kid and had some MLP magazines and ponies(the only thing I have left is a half-plush half-plastic baby rainbow dash or something).
I was a round 4 when this generation ended I remember having some of the toys. I remember the magnets in the blind bag ponies but those are the main 2. Never had any of the cartoon stuff for this generation
This was a good video, well composed and very organized! If I could relive an experience I would absolutely see the live show again, I saw world's biggest tea party in 2007 and it was so fun
i had a g3 pinkie pie and it got stolen by someone. then a day later i got pinkie pie back cause i told the teachers and a girl had it and she got in trouble and cried cause her mom wouldn't buy her any mlp toys. safe to say i never brought my mlp toys outside again after that.

"I tried to watch Lord of the Rings today, and was so overwhelmed, I had to stop.
21:52 aaaa that makes me so nostalgic I used to have The World’s Biggest Tea Party on dvd and would beg my mom to go
I know Shunks won't see this, but I can't believe I forgot to mention Kimono's Townhouse!!

*My mind when I saw this:* I SHOT MARVIN IN THE FACE!
This is the MLP I grew up with. I like FIM because it came out when i was 10 , but g3 was awesome and nostalgic to me. My head hurts so I can’t really write more but I have a lot of connection to G3
>recently been getting into g3
>confused by the many in-gen reboots and lack of character consistency
>see a g3 iceberg video
>starts with cute music and adorable yak oc fading in
alright alright img gettjg cozy alreadyf ujck
I will FOREVER prefer g3 over g4. I may be biased bc i like the more girly aspect it has, but it's so nostalgic:,)
@Katie Lewis I actually noticed that, like G1 started in the 80s and G1 in the 90s and so on. And now we're getting G5 for the 2020s.
@@redrobin2005 How do you feel about G5? Closer to G3, or a bigger departure?
@@redrobin2005 The term you are looking for isn’t underrated, but unpopular.
I remember seeing someone on Tumblr posting the goth ponies, so cool!
Not necessarily the explanation, the g1 comics had the first bunch of baby ponies be magically born when a pony passes in front of a magic mirror
I'm pretty sure that wasn't what they intended to be the case.
@@jorgito93700 would the babies be clones of the original or just a new being with the same dna?
Not really, but ok.
I thought ponies in G3 were created by rainbows crossing?
You seem to miss the fact that the "Always dresses in style" was part of the later portion of G3 rather than the whole of G3.
G3 was the Gen I grew up with when I was a girl. It was mostly the toys and I remember when I first saw Rainbow Dash as a Pegasus and not an earth pony, I had a lot of questions.
Fun fact: for some reason, A Very Minty Christmas is age restricted on TH-cam
@ReddyRulez no idea

This part of the iceberg happens in "The Princess Promenade". Star Catcher is in the special, but yeah she's missing her wings for some reason.
Yay!
What a coincidence.
I started watching Google maps iceberg, and few seconds through, I saw your video, and started watching it instead
This was the Generation I remember having before Gen 4. I love that you added gameplay of the GBA game, I played that game many times as a wee kid.
Nothing says Christmas nostalgia for me than watching my Very Minty Chirstmas DVD.
I own a vhs of the Swedish dub so if proof is needed I can record that
Question: is it common for boys to be voiced by grown men in Swedish? In English we usually have grown women voice boys.
I’ll be honest, I definitely talked to myself in my head about g3 talking about all the facts that I know 🤧
the daycare i went to had those magnet ponies, not the so sets we just sicked them to the side of the cabinets
I looked this up on a whim, not expecting to find anything, and instead found this gem. Thank you for making this
This video unlocked some old memories and I’m not even mad.
G3 was my childhood, I watched it more than G4 which is surprising tbh
This is big comfort video for me. Thank you for making this
My Little Pony did have a series of books. I remember one was about Pinkie Pie and the scary dream.
I remember when they performed "the world's biggest tea party" in the tri cities, I was so excited as a child and loved it. They gave us little tea pots and pinkie taught us how to properly drink tea, with your pinkies up
G3 MLP was one of my favorite things as a kid so this video was really nostalgic for me. Thanks for making this!
I do much prefer the way the ponies move in G4 to G3, because they move lie actual equines instead of mostly bouncing around everywhere! I love the G3 art style though
25:42 no men no boys this is... the world of LESBIANS
(it's a reference in case anyone's confused)
The toughest part for me on G3 was the way the teeth are drawn. Now im used to it i really like it.
I remember watching the old ones, I cried watching this..... it gave me so much nostalgia plus I remember having a DS game called “ pinkie pies birthday “ I think, it’s been years.....
I feel I should point out, with regards to the rule 34 part near the bottom...
G1 had R34. Before g3.
Yeah :/
Star Catcher in her main rearing pose has the hoof magnet in the rear hoof so she stands up real nice on a steel surface.
Tysm for making this! G3 is one of my favorite generations! 💖
i remember playing Pinkie Pie's Party all the time!
Yoooo I've been waiting for this iceberg for such a long time I'm so excited!!!
Omg 🤩 I remember watching a very minty Christmas a lot when I was younger with my sister 🥺💕
😢 I remember the days some g3 stuff used to be on Netflix (well for Canada at least)
You can watch most of G3 on Tubi
I remember that’s how I watched some of them. I don’t remember anything that happens in them sadly
G3 is basically half my childhood lol
I've always found it funny how rainbow dash and rarity basically swapped personalities
Good video as usual Shunks.
I'm excited for the g1 iceberg, what a roller coaster..
omg i totally forgot about the mlp plug n play... 4 year old me was OBSESSED
Wow! so many things i don't know, normally i thought G3 was only the flash babys, hence the unjustified hate
So glad I found this channel
I think that "Lost CGI Pilot" was just GinaGiovannielle misremembering those toy commercials they put at the end of at least one video. (Dancing in the Clouds ends with a commercial for MLP merch that features a CGI Pinkie Pie)
Omg I had g3 Tropical Surprise but I honestly dunno where she went!!
I’m so excited, this is the gen I grew up on this should be interesting
1. if mlp takes place in the real world, that means it's in an alternate timeline where horses took over the world and adapted to grow wings and horns that became magic somehow.
2. will mlp be considered an anime now?
Remember Pinkie Pie and Cheerilee are G4 ponies as well. Their names aren’t too weird.
For ages I forgot about runaway rainbow until I heard you talk about some of the details and now I'm like :0 memories
This was a good video, well composed and very organized!
If I could relive an experience I would absolutely see the live show again, I saw world's biggest tea party in 2007 and it was so fun
this was my era/generation i remember the most as a child so i appreciate this video so much and your hardwork!! thank you so much
you can NOT just dump “hey there’s pony porn from 2007” on me and expect me to NOT look it up
i had a g3 pinkie pie and it got stolen by someone. then a day later i got pinkie pie back cause i told the teachers and a girl had it and she got in trouble and cried cause her mom wouldn't buy her any mlp toys. safe to say i never brought my mlp toys outside again after that.
That's actually kinda sad, welp that girl is probably an adult now and she can buy her own pony toys.
38:22 Don't forget Hot Wheels Highway 35 and Acceleracers (Which had Shining Armor and Chrysalis VAs)
